Pentax K-3 II Body with Pentax D-BG5 Battery Grip for $829

The Pentax K3 II APS-C DSLR is still alive and kicking. It currently goes for $830 in new condition as the body only. For the same price, Adorama is offering it with a FREE Pentax D-BG5 Battery Grip. The free battery grip is included by Adorama automatically while this promotion is running. You see it mentioned on the product page. With free expedited shipping.

If you have B&H gift cards or promotional rewards, they are close, they are offering the K3 II + Battery Grip combo for $836.50 with free expedited shipping.

Pentax KP with 50mm f1.8 DA for $947

Yesterday we completed the 35mm Full Frame Price Charts write-up. Now the process has began for the APS-C DSLRs version with the price-checking round!

The Pentax KP is down $100 since the November 2017 APS-C price charts and it is getting a handful of free accessories for its new $900 price at Adorama.

But if you don’t want/need the extra accessories or want a “take pictures with” kit, then $947 will get you the black Pentax KP with 50mm f1.8 DA with free expedited shipping at B&H Photo. The lens goes for $110+ on its own, so you are essentially getting it for half price.

The silver KP is not eligible for this promotion, but you can purchase it together with four different Pentax lenses for a combined purchase discount. You can see them all at the main Pentax KP listing at B&H Photo.

YMMV 6% to 8% eBay Bucks ($25+ minimum purchase)

UPDATE: some people are seeing 8% and 10% instead of 6% to 8%. Check your own eBay account to see which one you may have been offered…

Now coming out via email and eBay messages, is a new eBay Bucks promotion, running until 2/23/18 at 3am eastern. You must manually activate it before you earn the bonus which is 6% eBay Bucks on the website or 8% if you buy using the official eBay apps. There is a $25+ minimum purchase amount required for this iteration. I do not know if every eBay Bucks member gets these offers or the eBay computers do their “targeting thing” (eg nudge people who haven’t shopped in a while to shop, and so forth), thus the YMMV in the post title.

A good place to look for ideas are the eBay Deals along with the Trending Deals (shows only 100 trending deals, less overwhelming to look at than their main deals page). There’s also a dedicated search box there that searches only the Deals, not everything else on eBay.

Another way to look for ideas is our eBay Category posts here…

Imported Nikon D850 w/1-YR Seller Warranty drops to $3200

I just updated the new line-up of the Stock Status Tracker (with the Fuji X-H1 added, the X100F and GH5 removed) and we have a greed price war on the imported Nikon D850 body only front. “Deals All Year” went greedy and skyrocketed their prices from $3240 to $3800, but they just got undercut by another imported, 6ave on eBay is offering the new condition imported grey market with a 1-year seller (not Nikon USA) warranty for $3200 with free shipping, with a maximum of three per customer. The new condition price at authorized Nikon USA dealers is $3300.

PS: if you need a full frame Nikon DSLR now, want the D850 but the waiting is driving you mad, there are some good deals on other refurbished Nikon DSLRs that can keep you going until/unless the D850 becomes available. You won’t lose as much money selling/trading a refurbished DSLR (or you can keep it as a backup).

New Prime Benefit: 5% Cashback with Amazon Prime Chase VISA at Whole Foods

We have another new Prime benefit! This is not as big as the Sunday announcement that Prime members get free standard shipping at Woot (for most items), but if you have the Amazon Prime Chase VISA credit card and shop at Whole Foods (and pay for the order with said credit card), you will now earn 5% rewards. Non-Prime members with the Amazon Chase VISA credit card will earn 3%, the same percentage they earn on regular Amazon purchases. Via Amazon Press Release.

PS: while the 5% cashback on Amazon.com purchases is earned with both the Amazon Chase Prime VISA and the Amazon Prime Store credit card, the 5% at Whole Foods is only earned with the Amazon Chase Prime VISA, presumably because Whole Foods is not set up to take the Store credit card (and the card may not be set up for retail use to begin with; it’s not a physical credit card to begin with).

Sell Your Gear to KEH Camera and Get 5% Bonus (with coupon) IF they are on their Most Wanted List

Most of the KEH Camera coupons are when you purchase camera gear from them, but this just launched coupon promotion is when you sell your own camera gear to KEH Camera.

KEH Camera has a Most Wanted Gear List, with almost 400 items listed as of the time of writing. It is searchable even or you can browse through it alphabetically (you can show up to 100 items per page). These are the gear KEH Camera wants to buy the most from photographers.

If you have any gear that is on that list and you are willing to sell it to KEH Camera, coupon code WANTED02A will get you a 5% bonus on your quotes from the Most Wanted List! Better yet, the coupon is running until March 6 in 2018, so you have plenty of time to think and plan.

For example, the Fuji X100S, X100T, X100F, X70, X30 and X10 are all on their Most Wanted List, and so is the Panasonic LX100. The list includes a number of DSLR and mirrorless cameras and lenses.

The most wanted list broken down by manufacturer:
+ Canon: 62 items
+ Nikon: 68 items
+ Fuji: 39 entries
+ Sony: 27 items
+ Olympus: 22 items
+ Leica: 74 items
+ Zeiss: 14 items
+ Pentax: 17 items (including the K1000)
+ the totals include 3rd-party lenses of that mount, eg Sigma EF/EF-S lenses are counted towards Canon (and under Sigma of course)

For the speed readers out there, this coupon is a 5% bonus IF you are willing to sell your own camera gear to KEH Camera. Items that are eligible for the 5% bonus must be on the Most Wanted List which is very easy to search or browse through.

Canon PIXMA MG2522 All-in-One Inkjet Printer for $20 [CORRECTED LINK]

It’s the softer side of Walmart! The new condition Canon PIXMA MG2522 All-in-One Inkjet Printer [CORRECTED LINK!] is on sale for $20 in the white color scheme. Limit up to ten printers per customer at the sale price. Free 2-day shipping with orders of $35+ or free store pickup where available/possible. Walmart no longer has a Prime-like service, so everyone gets free 2-day shipping with $35+ orders of eligible items (not everything). This printer is eligible if it is part of a $35+ order (eg two printers). No coupon, no rebate, just add to cart and proceed to checkout.

PS: Correction: I mangled up the url with two http instead of one 🙂

iPads and MacBook Instant Savings at B&H

If you are looking to buy an iPad from a trustworthy authorized Apple reseller (as opposed to random eBay refurbisher du jour), B&H Photo is having iPad Instant Savings promotion featuring iPads of all sizes, from the 8″ Mini all the way to the 13″ PRO.

But that’s not all. They also have a sale on the new condition Apple 15.4″ MacBook Pro with Touch Bar (Late 2016, Space Gray) for $1899 with free expedited shipping (Core i7, 16GB RAM, 512GB PCIe SSD, 2880 x 1800 Retina, Radeon PRO 450 GPU w/2GB RAM, etc)

AmazonBasics Extending Stick w/Remote Housing for $6.35

Lots of four figure cameras were mentioned in our full frame spree, so now let’s balance things out with a single figures deal! The new condition AmazonBasics Extending Stick with Remote Housing for GoPro is down to $6.35 with up to three per customer at the sale price. It is however an Add-ON item, so you must needs place a $25+ order of eligible products shipped/fulfilled by Amazon, otherwise the shopping cart won’t let you buy it.

You don’t have to put a remote control in the remote housing. You could put M&Ms or almonds or memory cards 😉

One idea to help you get to $25+ is this new condition 34oz Bodum Pour Over Carafe with Permanent Filter for $15. You can even use the GoPRO on the Extending Stick to record the making of the pour over 🙂

New Price Charts Series: Episode #1 is Ready – 35mm Full Frame Cameras

The avalanche of 35mm full frame deals is over! The Full Frame Price Checking has been completed, and not only that, but Part #1 of our February 2018 Price Chart series is complete! You can now read it, it is the Episode I: The Full Frame Discounting Menace, directed by Chewbacca and a PORG 🙂

Canon 6D II Body + BG-E21 Battery Grip for $1899

We already mentioned a couple of days ago that the Canon 6D is down to $999 and with your choice of a useful freebie but that’s not the only camera with useful freebies…

A couple of 3rd-party sellers at Amazon, the most recognizable of which being Cameta Camera are offering the Canon 6D II body only bundled with the BG-E21 Battery Grip for $1900, that’s the body only price without the battery grip at most authorized Canon USA dealers.

Canon 1D X II Body with PIXMA PRO 100 + 50pk SG-201 for $5549 after $350 MIR

If you are not interested in the boatload of free accessories and instead you want a pro printer with the Canon 1D X II, then to B&H Photo we go where they bundle the 1D X II with the PIXMA PRO 100 printer and SG-201 paper kit for $5549 after a $350 mail-in rebate (prepaid AMEX gift card).

Canon 1D X II Body with Flashpoint Zoom R2 TTL On-Camera Flash and 64GB Extreme PRO CF and Takama Tripod/Monopod Kit and more for $5500

The Canon 1D X Mark II body only is down $200 since our November 2017 price charts, but that’s not all. It is also getting a handful of useful freebies at Adorama including their house brand Flashpoint Zoom Li-on R2 TTL On-Camera Flash Speedlight (which goes for $179 on its own), along with the following freebies:

+ Takama Flip-Zip Multi-Functional Photo Tripod Monopod Kit
+ 64GB Sandisk Extreme PRO Compact Flash
+ new Corel software bundle (four titles including After Shot and PSP)
+ 24/7 Messenger Bag
+ intervalometer and release cable
+ card wallet and cleaning kit
+ one vial with Tears of Nikon [okay, this is NOT included]

Sony a7 with 28-70 OSS and Rode PRO R Mic for $1000

We continue our Full Frame price-checking with the entry-point into the Sony 35mm FF a-series. The a7 body only dropped to $800 with the early February Sony instant savings wave, while the “take pictures with” kit with the 28-70mm f/3.5-5.6 OSS dropped to $1000.

Fast forward to now, and the a7 with 28-70mm is getting a pretty useful freebie from Adorama, for the same price of $1000 they also include the new condition Rode Microphones VideoMic Pro R Cardioid Condenser Microphone with Rycote Lyre Shock Mount.

The mic on its own goes for $230, eg B&H Photo and Amazon itself, so that’s a pretty good value!

Sony a7r II body with One Useful Freebie (Five Options)

The Sony Instant Savings of early February gave us plenty of Sony lens discounts and also Sony camera discounts but that’s not all. Some of the discounted cameras are also getting freebies now.

One such discounted camera was the Sony a7r II which is now down to $2400. It went for $2900 during our November 2017 Price charts. A $500 price drop, part of it of course because of the new $3200 a7r III. Sony has been staircasing the prices of the RX-series (they still haven’t discontinued any of those RAWsumers), so it makes sense they are doing this with their a-series as well.

Okay, too much mumbling, the point of this post is this, the a7r II body only goes for $2400 with free shipping and a variety of freebie options as follows:

+ at B&H Photo with 4TB WD My Passport USB 3.0 Secure Portable Hard Drive

+ at B&H Photo with Adobe Photographer Plan Creative Cloud 12-Month Subscription Kit

+ at Adorama with Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 6 (stand alone version; not cloudy edition)

+ at Adorama with Tascam DR-10SG Camera-Mountable Audio Recorder with Shotgun Microphone

+ at Adorama with various free accessories (32GB Extreme PRO, extra battery, etc) along with the new Corel software bundle (four on-topic software titles)

10pk Fujifilm instax mini Rainbow Instant Film for $8

Ronny James Dio can help you find the rainbow in the dark, but they can’t help if you want to print from your instant camera. For that, the 10 pack of Fujifilm instax mini Rainbow Instant Film is on sale at the moment for $8. Shipping depends:

+ Amazon by Amazon itself with free shipping for Prime members (it is not an add-on item; limit up to three per customer at the sale price)
+ this is restricted to Prime members

+ B&H Photo with free shipping with orders of $49+; you can buy as many as you want

Back In-Stock: Kindle Oasis for $250

These were hard to find during the holiday shopping season, but as of the time of writing, the Kindle Oasis e-reader is back in-stock by Amazon itself for $250. This is the latest model with a 7-inch screen and IPX8 and 300ppi and 8GB on-board storage, and audiobook playback (via bluetooth only). Customization is available in the shopping cart.

Free Roll of Film with $49+ Film Camera purchase at KEH

This got buried by an avalanche of newer posts. February is a short month and February 28 is just around the corner! Running until the very last millisecond of February in the eastern time zone, coupon code FILMFEB02A gets you a FREE ROLL of FILM with the purchase of any film camera of $49+ at KEH Camera. As usual, their shopping cart is the ultimate decider on what qualifies.

Who would have guessed that in 2018 both cassette tapes and film would be making a comeback? 🙂

Retail News: Albertsons buying Rite Aid

With Ritz/Wolf mostly disappearing and local camera shops fading away as well, drugstore chains are often the places many people go to for prints. And we have a new development on the drugstores front. Walgreens had previously agreed to purchase some Rite Aid stores, but they are not buying the whole company. Announced today, the Albertsons group of companies will be buying Rite Aid, over 2500 remaining stores that are not purchased by Walgreens (buying over 1900 stores) according to the aforelinked Forbes article.

It will be interesting to see how this plays out. If Rite Aid thrives under Albertsons, the local photo print markets will get more competition and better prices. If Albertsons starts shutting down stores, it will reduce competition giving CVS and Walgeens fewer reasons to offer good deals. Only time will tell – as always 🙂

FREE to Watch (starts 12pm ET): Sony a7r III Fast Start Class (WORLD PREMIERE)

Sony a7r III fans and curious bystanders! The day has arrived! Starting at 12pm eastern today, CreativeLIVE will have the world premiere (it is recording LIVE in front of a live studio audience) of the Sony a7r III Fast Start Class with John Greengo. The class will be free to watch during this promotional period and will repeat throughout the night until 12pm eastern of the next day (Wednesday in our case). If you like the class well enough that you want to watch again and again later on, they have it on a launch sale for $39.

If that’s not your cup, among the other On-AIR Schedule free-streaming classes on Tuesday is an Adobe Illustrator CC Drawing and Editing class and a DJ fundamentals. If you are or aspire to be a music or club or lifestyle photographer, it is not a bad idea to take a look at that class so you can better understand your subjects [if not already familiar with DJing]!

Coming up in the next few days
+ FEB-21: How to launch a Photography Business (WORLD PREMIERE)
+ FEB-21: Foundations of Adobe XD (WORLD PREMIERE)
+ FEB-21: Animal Photography (photographing animals I assume, not animals becoming photographers)
+ FEB-24: Photographing pets in the studio (herding cats tutorial?)
+ FEB-26: Alternative Processing in Photography
+ MAR-05: Getting started in lifestyle family photography (WORLD PREMIERE)
+ the above is just a sampling, see them all at the On-AIR Schedule

Refurbished Nikon D610 body w/90D W for $1040

As you can tell by today’s posts so far, the first round of price-checking for the Price Charts is the 35mm Full Frame Cameras (iLC or Fixed Lens). The Nikon D610 body only goes for $1500 at authorized Nikon USA dealers, but if you are willing to the manufacturer refurbished, you can pay just over 2/3rds of that, going for $1040 with free shipping at Adorama with a 90-day Nikon USA warranty.

Refurbished Nikon D810 Body w/90D W for $1900

If you are going to get the Nikon D810, since it is no longer the latest model [that’s the elusive Nikon D850 – see Stock Status Tracker], you might as well go the way of the refurbished and save a significant amount of money.

The new condition Nikon D810 body only goes for $2800 at authorized dealers, but if you go the manufacturer refurbished route, you can get it for $1900 with free shipping at Adorama with a 90-day Nikon USA warranty. That’s $900 less!

PS: “90D” is short for 90 days, “W” is short for Warranty. I am trying to keep blog-post titles one line with the desktop/laptop view. If they go for more than one line, they’d better fill up the second line, otherwise they are eating up space.

Nikon D810A gone from B&H and Adorama but still available

Another disappearing act! The Nikon D810A is no longer available for purchase from B&H Photo and Adorama, but if you still want to get it in new condition from an authorized dealer Amazon itself has it for its normal price of $3800 with a maximum of three per customer. It is in the all-encompassing “temporarily out of stock” shipping estimate though.

Nikon D5 Anniversary gone from B&H, but still available elsewhere

The time is right in the year for a brand new Price Charts series to begin! I have began doing the spreadsheet work and price-checking! This will continue for this week (other things equal) and you may see an increase in deals/posts featuring the cameras that are tracked in the Price Charts as the price-checks surface different kinds of deals directly or indirectly.

If you want to re-familiarize yourself with the Price Charts series, this link shows all previous editions (going back to December 2014).

The first thing that surfaced is the Nikon D5 Anniversary edition is starting to run out. The camera is marked Discontinued and unorderable at B&H Photo but it remains in-stock at Adorama for the five of you that may interested in it 🙂 Amazon itself still has it as “not yet released” but it’s still available for $8000 by Adorama and Unique Photo thru Amazon. Paying for this with an Amazon Prime VISA or Prime Store Card gets you a 5% statement credit, which in this case it’s a pretty nice $400 amount!
