The selfie camera is a pop-up camera, nestled inside the body. It pops out in order to take a picture. And because of this, there’s no notch/holepunch or whatever that thing is called, the thing that ruins the serene surface of the front of the phone πŸ™‚

Google Pixel 4 for $500+, Pixel 4 XL for $600+

The ghosts of the Nexus phones are haunting the Pixel 4, but if you’ve read the reviews, pixel-peeped the sample pictures, and you are certain the Pixel 4* line is the one for you, for a limited time B&H Photo is having discounts on select Pixel 4 phones as follows:

+ Pixel 4: 64GB for $500, 128GB for $600

+ Pixel 4 XL: 64GB for $600, 128GB for $700

These are new condition, factory unlocked, with USA warranty. B&H includes a free case and Mint Mobile SIM card.

NOTE that the Pixel 4 phones do NOT have a headphone jack, and they do NOT have a microSD slot. But you can swim in the Google Clouds πŸ™‚

A lot of people consider the Pixel 4 to have the most pure camera, but not all agree. For example, it is currently at #19 in the DxoMark rankings which have two of the new Honor *30* phones in the Top 5. SPOILER ALERT: the #1 in the ranking is a …LEICA πŸ™‚

NOTE that the latest Huaweii P40* series of phones do NOT have Google Play because of the Huaweii embargo thing. If you look in the forums, there are various hacks that come and go, but come on, it’s 2020, who wants to hunt and peck hacks just so you can run basic apps on your phone?

I remember doing this ten years ago with a crappy Pandigital (?) tablet I got on sale at Radio Shaq. No way I would do this now, there are a gazillion other phones available. But that’s just me. Some people love the excitement of living on the Google Play Frontier πŸ™‚

Further down the list, and not getting the free 128GB microSD card you will find international Latin America versions of the S20 Ultra (the more expensive of this flagship trio) going for $1200. One clue as to the internationality is the “dual SIM” in the title. These come with a 1-year B&H warranty. NOTE that this has the Exynos chip, not the QualComm SnapDragon.

NOTE also that these are 5G phones, so you may accidentally intercept intergalactic planetary conversations πŸ™‚

Pre-order new 10.2-inch iPads starting at $329

A sign perhaps of Apple’s need to drive more sales among the “mere mortals”, this week saw the first official live-stream of a big Apple event in the modern era on YouTube and this was backed up by a Tim Cook statistics on the iPad ~ a lot of the iPad users are new and non-iPhone users, the iPad is bringing fresh blood in the shoppe.

Which brings us to the just-announced 10.2-inch iPads, they are now available to pre-order at B&H Photo with prices starting at $329 (Wifi, 32GB) and going +$100 for the jump to 128GB. For fans of 4G LTE, they have the usual +$130 on the Wifi-only model.

And there’s good reason iPads are keep getting bought up by non-platform users. Both Microsoft and Google tablets are in a state of non-existent confusion. Google can’t decide if they want Android or ChromeOS or both or neither for their tablets πŸ™‚ Microsoft can’t decide which variant of “Windows Lite” to launch this month πŸ˜‰

PS: if the CEO of Apple can get away with saying “eggspecially” can I also do it? Or is this too part of the Apple script to make the presentation feel more conversational/human/casual/relatable? I’m eggspecially interested in finding out!

Wedn: HP Omen Gaming Computers and Red Dragon kbd/mice

Wednesday action in the Amazon USA Gold Box, it’s another variant of the Computer Sale, this one featuring gaming HP desktops and laptops, along with Red Dragon keyboards and mice (I’m assuming that by now the internet decided that “mices” is the plural of “mice”, and “casted” is the past tense of “cast”) πŸ™‚ A total of 14 computers and 8 keyboards/mice are participating in this sale…

The review score only has four customer reviews, one of which is mad (1-star) because it doesn’t have USB-C and the other 1-star reviewer is mad because… it’s not a tablet πŸ™‚ There is one long in-depth review from a user named “Honest Reader”.

Personally I know nothing about the new model. I am still at the Voyage…

Google Pixel 3a XL + $100 Gift Card for $479

For a very limited time only, B&H Photo is offering the new condition Google Pixel 3a XL smartphone bundled with a $100 B&H Photo gift card and a GoogleFi SIM card (with $10 service credit), all together for $479 with free US shipping in your choice of three color schemes…

The Pixel 3a gets almost the same camera score (one point difference) at DxoMark. But since the Pixel 3 came out last year, a number of newer smartphones came out that scored higher on Dxomark with the Huawei P30 PRO and the Samsung Galaxy S10 5G leading the way.

Needless to say, the Dxomark is just one measurement of camera performance as the real-world often disagrees with the lab-world πŸ˜‰

Massdrop is a “club”, so you have to sign up to see what’s happening, but it is free to sign up. One of the reasons for the “sign up” is because some of their products are below MAP, so by having a club, then they can offer lower prices because the firewall. OR something like that…

Some of the other day-long Prime Day 2019 sales that I have yet to mention:

+ new condition 10.5″ iPad PRO with Cellular (previous generation) for $629 to $699 (storage varies from 256GB to 512GB; some colors cost more than others)

+ AiO, Tablets & Laptop sale, 27 options from Acer, Samsung, HP, ASUS, Dell, LG, Lenova, etc

+ Computer Gaming sale with computers and monitors with over 40 options from ASUS, MSI, Razer, Acer, CyberPower, Dell, iBuyPOWER, Corsair and more

+ Chromebook sale with 15 options from Acer, ASUS, Samsung, HP and Lenova with prices ranging from $145 to $600; with the Web bloating and ChromeOS adding features and OS bloat, it is a good idea to go for 4GB RAM, not 2GB RAM for Chromebooks ~ unless the usage plan is strictly uni-tasking with hunt-and-peck typing
