Wallets open wide. Open ALL the frames in your wallet. The Nikon full frame DSLR that was promised is now a real product. The Nikon D850 body only is officially announced and pre-orders are accepted for $3300 at authorized dealers including B&H Photo and Adorama and Amazon itself.
With this new addition, the DSLRs take an 8-7 lead versus Mirrorless cameras among the New Cameras of 2017. But the score is far from settled, IFA is just around the corner. There is no Photokina this year since it is an odd-numbered year [and a very odd year to boot], so announcements may be spread out more evenly among the remaining Trade Shows.
In a surprisingly fast move (for this blog these days), the Nikon D850 has also just been added to the Stock Status Tracker. This is the fastest I’ve ever added a camera to the tracker 🙂
The sony a9 body only mirrorless full frame camera goes for $4500 at authorized dealers. At the moment, Adorama is bundling two Sandisk Extreme PRO UHS-II Class 10 U3 SDXC Memory Card, Up to 300MB/s Read and Up to 260MB/s Write Speed. One is 128GB, and the other is 32GB. You also get free Overnight shipping which is nice for a flagship camera, you don’t want it lingering around in shiplandia.
Ooooops, this got buried in yesterday’s Nikon D850 pre-announcement and I forgot to post it separately, but forgot no more! If you need a Nikon 35mm full frame DSLR now in the D8XX series, you don’t want to wait to see what the D850 will bring, and you don’t want to pay the big bucks for it, Adorama is offering the manufacturer refurbished Nikon D810 body only for $1997 with free expedited shipping. The new condition D810 goes for $2800 at authorized dealers.
Another alternative if you want an FX DSLR now but don’t want to wait or pay new-condition older-generation price, the manufacturer refurbished Nikon Df with 50mm f1.8G Special for $1795 with free shipping at Adorama.
Manufacturer refurbished Nikon camera gear at Adorama come with a 90-day Nikon USA warranty.
All these of course are luxuries, because the Nikon D40 is the only DSLR you’ll ever need 🙂
The Sony a99 II 35mm full frame DSLR goes for $3200 in new condition at authorized dealers (eg Amazon itself or Adorama) but if you are comfortable buying DSLRs in used condition from reputable dealers…
… you can get the Sony a99 II body only in “USED – 9 Condition” (shows signs of use but very clean) for $2600 with free expedited shipping at B&H Photo with a 90-day warranty offered by B&H Photo. The list of included items (as with all the used listings at B&H Photo) can be found under the “In The Box” section further down the right hand side of their website…
As usual, it’s up to you to trade off the price vs condition vs warranty…
As you can see in the Full Frame Price Charts of July 2017, the Canon 5D Mark IV body only goes for $3300 at authorized dealers, which are allowed to include free accessories with it (eg Adorama).
Or if you are comfortable with mail-in rebates, prepaid AMEX gift cards, and want the Canon PIXMA PRO 100 printer with its 50pk of 13×19″ photo paper sidekick, then off to B&H Photo we go where this combo goes for $3329 with free shipping after a $350 mail-in rebate (prepaid AMEX gift card). Offer ends 7/31/17.
If you want to get the Nikon Df with the Special Edition lens but don’t want to pay the full new condition price, fear not! Adorama comes to the rescue, they are offering the manufacturer refurbished Nikon Df with 50mm f1.8G Special Edition for $1795 with free shipping and a 90-day Nikon USA warranty.
This kit in new condition goes for $3000, so that’s certainly a big price difference to tilt the scales towards the manufacturer refurbished. This is the black Nikon Df. The silver Nikon Df is not available in this option.
But that’s not all. Adorama has launched a number of other promotions as follows:
+ DJI Phantom 4 Quadcopter w/ 4K HD Camera + 2 Extra Batteries + Charging Hub for $999
+ expires 7/24/17
+ SmallHD 702 Lite 7″ Monitor With Pro Accessory Bundle for $999
+ 3 Legged Thing Albert Carbon Fiber Travel Tripod System with AirHed 360 Ball Head for $340

+ Apple Magic Keyboard (MLA22LL/A) for $69 after $20 mail-in rebate (PDF details)
As you may recall from our recent 35mm Full Frame Cameras Price Chart, the Nikon D750 body only goes for $1800 at authorized dealers, which are allowed to bundle it with free items, eg free 1-Year Photographers Cloud at B&H Photo.
But if you want to pay less, and you are comfortable with refurbished, you can get it in refurbished condition with a 90-day warranty for $1399 at B&H Photo.
On the other hand, if you are comfortable with imported/grey-market cameras, then to the eBay Deals we boldly go (where a CBS All Access subscription is not necessary) where eBay seller “6ave” (99.1%, New Jersey) is offering the new condition imported/grey-market Nikon D750 body only for $1290 with free shipping. Limit three per buyer. It comes with a 1-year warranty from the seller “6ave”, not Nikon USA.
As you can see, there are options, and that’s before you factor in the used market. It is good to have options ~ just ask anyone without options 🙂
We have a new camera in-stock alert! The Canon EOS 5D Mark IV DSLR Camera with Canon Log body only is in-stock and ready to ship for $3599 with free expedited shipping at B&H Photo. The standard log-less model goes for $3299.
The Cylon DSLR Resurrection must be in orbit, hiding on the dark side of the moon, because the good old Sony a99V body only SLT dSLR has re-materialized at Amazon by Amazon itself in “temporarily out of stock” status. This is of interest only to those who may have been specifically hunting for this particular camera in new condition. It is a 2012 model.
PS: this post may appear random and out of the blue ~ there is a reason for it ~ this camera surfaced while I was price-checking cameras for the upcoming July 2017 edition of the “Price Charts” 🙂
We haven’t mentioned this milestone on this blog yet, but thanks to a $50 instant savings promotion, we officially have a 35mm full frame interchangeable lens camera in new condition at authorized dealers going for under $1000. It is the Sony a7 body only (first generation), going for $948 with free shipping at Amazon by Amazon itself (limit 3) and at B&H Photo and Adorama.
A silver lining of Amazon’s Price Bots is that sometimes they can price-match 3rd-party sellers without “grown up” supervision. One such case we have now, the new condition Pentax K-1 body only is going for $1791~ with free shipping at Amazon by Amazon itself with a limit of up to three units per customer. This appears to be a price-bot price-match of the 6ave price. Shhhhh! Don’t tell the Amazon “grown ups” 🙂
Work has began to start another “Price Charts” series. As I am assembling the lists and price-checking cameras, a number of deal posts will be generated. This is the first one. The Leica SL (Typ 601) Mirrorless Digital Camera goes for $7450 at Adorama and by various at Amazon, but as of the time of writing, it appears to be on sale for $5995 with free expedited shipping at B&H Photo.
PS: you can check the previous editions of the “Price Charts” at the Price Charts Archives. I will post separate alerts when the new July 2017 editions are out. I typically try to do one per day, and start and finish them within the same week, since manufacturer-initiated prices usually change on Sundays.
Canon launched this week the 6D Mark II for $2000, but if you want to get Canon 35mm full frame for almost half of that price, the first generation Canon 6D body only kit is on sale for $1099 with free shipping at the Canon USA Outlet store with a 1-year Canon USA warranty. This is part of their 4th of July Savings sale.
The new condition price for the first generation 6D is $1399 at the moment (eg Adorama – page down to see all options). With a new model coming out, strategically, if you are getting the previous generation model, going refurbished or used makes more sense, especially if you can get it with a full warranty. You can put the difference towards a future upgrade or towards moar moar moar lenses.
The Canon 6D line now has a second member! The Canon 6D Mark II is now officially official with its touchscreen Vari-angle “twist and shout” display and its 26mp 35mm FF sensor! The camera is available for pre-ordering in three official kits as follows:
+ 6D II Body Only for $1999 at B&H Photo and Adorama and Amazon itself
+ 6D II with EF 24-105mm f/3.5-5.6 IS STM for $2599 at Adorama and B&H Photo and Amazon itself
+ 6D II with EF 24-105mm f/4L IS USM for $3099 at B&H Photo and Adorama and Amazon itself
+ Canon BG-E21 Battery Grip for EOS 6D Mark II for $249 at B&H Photo and $300 at Adorama and Amazon itself
+ prices will eventually converge
This has been added to the New Cameras of 2017, with the DSLRs now taking a 7-6 “lead” over the Mirrorless cameras 🙂
