Refurbished Canon SL1 with 18-55 IS STM and 1-YR warranty for $350

Another “take pictures with” kit among the refurbished Canon DSLRs that might be of interest for a first DSLR, perhaps for kids/teens since it is a bit smaller than the typical DSLRs, is the manufacturer refurbished black Canon SL1 with 18-55 IS STM with a 1-year Canon USA warranty going for $350 with free shipping. You also get a free badget bag and 16GB memory card. The white color scheme is out of stock.

PS: they also have an option with the 70-300mm non-IS non-USM added for $40 more, but how much that makes sense on a smaller DSLR without in-body IS, is up to the buyers to decide 🙂

Refurbished Canon D-Rebel T6i w/18-55 IS STM and BG-E18 Battery Grip and LP-E17 Battery and 1-Year Warranty for $570

Both Canon and Nikon have a large number of APS-C DSLR options in the market, especially if you are also willing to consider open-box and refurbished and used, so deciding which one to get can be more complicated than it appears. One such option adding to the complications is this manufacturer refurbished Canon D-Rebel T6i w/18-55 IS STM bundle at the official Canon USA store for $580 with free shipping that includes two freebies, the Canon BG-E18 Battery Grip and the Battery Pack LP-E17. You can find this offer mentioned in small red print on the product page (screenshot below):

This kit is the only one of the refurbished Canon DSLR kits that have a free battery grip promotion on them that are currently in-stock. The rest are out of stock (and cannot be ordered while they are out of stock). To see them all, use your browser’s in-page search function to search for “battery grip” over there after you increase “Items per page” to 72.

The GH5 goes for $2000 on its own, and the 12-60mm Elmarit lens goes for $1000 on its own (eg Adorama). As of the time of writing, they have TWO bundles available.

64GB Sandisk Extreme PRO SDXC for $35

Free shipping for Prime members or with a $35+ order (which is why I didn’t round the price, because those $0.05 block non-Prime members from free shipping). If you are looking for low-cost items to climb over $35+, check the Add-ON section (the very bottom) of the Elsewhere at Amazon segment. There’s half a dozen sub-$3 items there.

Adorama offers combined purchase discounts with the Olympus E-M1 II as well

We mentioned in detail the Olympus E-M1 II combined purchase discounts at Amazon, but Amazon is not the only one offering these. You can also get them at Adorama. Start at the E-M1 II product page and expand the yellow “Special Offer” area to see all the options.

Refurbished Chromo Macro Ring Light for $15 w/free S&H

And now a bang for the buck deal on the lighting front. Clearance/refurbishing specialist A4C (All 4 Cellular) is offering the manufacturer refurbished Chromo Macro Ring Light for $15 with free shipping for the 48 contiguous states. It comes with a 90 day warranty from A4C. Everything on the A4C website comes with free shipping, even the $2 cables and adapters.

This is not one of their daily deals, but one of their weekly sales. Expiration date unknown since they may run out before the weekly offers expire. This goes for $29 to $30 in new condition (eg Groupon Goods, Amazon)

64GB Sandisk Ultra PLUS for $30 w/free S&H [non-PLUS for $22]

The Best Buy daily daily deal expired, but the 64GB Sandisk Ultra PLUS SDXC memory card continues for $30 with free shipping (instead of $28) by Best Buy on eBay.

This expired: One of the Tuesday Best Buy daily deals is a sale on the Sandisk Ultra PLUS SD cards with the 64GB going for $28 and the 32GB going for $18 with free shipping and store pickup. It’s easier to offer free shipping on a tiny little thing such as a memory card 🙂

The PLUS models are faster than the non-PLUS models according to the Sandisk website. The model numbers are different too. The 64GB Ultra PLUS is SDSDUSC-064G-AN6IN while the non-PLUS is SDSDUNC-064G-GN6IN. Visually you can tell the non-PLUS by the absence of the PLUS in the pictures (assuming the retailers use the correct pictures which is not always guaranteed; eg Best Buy on eBay linked in the first paragraph). If you don’t need the extra speed, the non-PLUS currently goes for $22 at Amazon by Amazon itself.

The Best Buy daily deal price ends Tuesday night. The Amazon price is an organic or price-match or dynamic market-driven price; to cut a long story short, I have no clue when that price will change 🙂

Kindle e-readers on sale (Members only)

Amazon has a new sale on their ebook readers that is currently for Prime members only [exclusive discounts on select products at random points in time is one of the ever-expanding Prime benefits], with the discount appearing after you add the item in the shopping cart. No coupon needed. The offer continues as long as you see the discount mentioned over there in the product pages of the eligible products [see screenshot below]:

+ entry-level Kindle for $50
+ Paperwhite for $90 [bang for the buck model features-wise] ~ also available in White [select that in “Customize & Add to Cart”]
+ Voyage for $150
+ limit two of each per customer during the sale

Photography ebooks and camera manuals are not ideal to be read on an e-ink screen for most people with the current technology level, but there is a small number of text e-books about photography, eg, photography essays including the classic read “On Photography” by Susan Sontag.

PS: you can also find these in the Elsewhere at Amazon sections of the near-daily lightning deal round-ups.

Heads Up: Panasonic GH5 Live Discussion Panel (and $100 gift card with Filmmaker kit)

To celebrate the upcoming release of the new Panasonic GH5, B&H Photo is planning a GH5 Live Stream Discussion Panel on Wednesday 3/29/17 1pm Eastern time. The timing is good, because it’s two hours after the Samsung Unpacked live-streaming event that will reveal the Galaxy S8 flagships.

As part of the festivities of the GH5 event, B&H Photo is bundling a $100 B&H Photo gift card with pre-orders of the GH5 Film Maker’s Kit for $2870. This kit goes for $870 more than the standard GH5 kit and includes four Panasonic accessories (official Battery Grip, DMW-XLR1 XLR Microphone Adapter, AC adapter, DC coupler), along with the $100 gift card.

April 1st: Amazon will collect sales-tax in all states who require it

Starting April 1st in 2017, Amazon will collect sales tax on all states that collect sales tax. It is already doing so in the vast majority of the states, but with this latest group, it will complete the puzzle. It will obviously not collect sales tax in states where sales tax is not collected (Oregon, Alaska, etc). Details via CNBC.

But because things are never quite as simple, there is a distinction, for tax collection purposes, between products sold and shipped by Amazon (they collect taxes) and products sold by 3rd-party sellers through the Amazon website. The latter category is still up in the air as literally any and every person on earth (and beyond) can be an Amazon seller.

New Canon Two-Lens Bundle coming

Camera manufacturers have “(re)discovered” bundling! Canon has a brand new lens bundle, one prime, one zoom, and they are offered together, the 50mm f1.4 and the 17-40mm f4L, available for pre-order at B&H Photo for $1200. This however is NOT a good price as it stands, because the lenses can be purchased individually $330 (50mm f1.4) and $750 (17-40mm f4L). I suspect the bundle price will be adjusted when it gets closer to release, because $1200 is the list price of each lens before the seasonal “instant savings” promotions.

B&N website: 15% off $40+ order with coupon

eBay is on the attack again! This time they have a new non-targeted coupon code, coupon code C20FLASH gets you 20% off products offered by 42 eBay sellers, a mix of known (BackCountry, eBags, VM Innovations, WW Stereo, Red Tag Camera, Samsonite, etc) and unknown sellers.

The coupon expires Monday March 27 (2017) at 11:59pm pacific time. Minimum price for eligible items from eligible sellers is $25. MMaximum discount received is $50 (in other words, purchase amount that can be discounted capped at $250 [CORRECTED MATH!]).

eBay created listings for different categories of eligible products from eligible sellers. The Camera and Photo listings have over 1000 items, while the Digital Cameras sub-category has over 600 items.

Check each individual listing for the condition and warranty situation of each item, since this is a mix of various sellers. Due to time constraints I can’t go through the 1000+ listings right now, so this is a DIY adventure if interested.
