Amazon x AMEX: $30 off orders of $60+ with Rewards Redemption [YMMV/invited]

If you are an frequent amazon.com shopper, and you have an American Express credit card that is participating in Membership Rewards (the green ones with the points, the “Blue” with the cash rewards), then you may eligible for a new promotion that gets you up to $30 off with a purchase of $60+. This is by invitation, so you must be logged-on to your Amazon account to see if you qualify [see link at the bottom]

You may also notice the banner appearing at the top of Amazon.com pages while you are logged on to your Amazon account if you are eligible for the promotion. The picture below is a screenshot crop of one such banner:

To get this discount you must:

  1. activate the offer in your account [see link below]
  2. you must put a $60+ in eligible products in your shopping cart
  3. you must pay (at least partially) by redeeming AMEX Membership Rewards (the rest will be paid by the AMEX credit card that is linked to the rewards points)
  4. the discount will appear at the final checkout page, right before you push the “Place Order” button

You can find the activation button and all the terms and condition at the Promotional page. The offer runs until 12/31/19.

NOTE that you can redeem as few or as many AMEX Rewards Points for the redemption promotion. You have that option in the shopping cart. For example, let’s say you are buying a $99 lens. You can select to redeem only 1,000 AMEX Rewards points [even though your AMEX Membership Rewards account has more points available], and pay the rest with the AMEX credit card. (I don’t remember what happens to the order of payment if you have a Gift Card or any promotional credits already sitting in your account).

Wednesday: 256GB Patriot microSDXC for $30 w/FS

“Memory Card Week” continues with another daily deal offering, this time it is at NewEgg, it is the new condition 256GB Patriot microSDXC (A1, V30, U3, UHS-I, Class 10, EP, up to 100GB/s read, up to 80MB/s write) going for $30 with free US shipping. Up to three per customer at the sale price. This is sold and shipped by NewEgg itself. Sale ends at 11:59pm pacific on 9/18/19 or earlier if sold out…

Flash sale: Pixel 3 for $400, Pixel 3 XL for $450 with Financing or Project Fi Activation [also new Project Fi Unlimited Plan]

The official online Google Store is running a couple of flash sale promotions for a limited time. The offers get you the new condition Pixel 3 smartphone for $400 or the Pixel 3 XL for $450. One offer is with Project-FI activation, while the other offer is with a 24-month financing plan. The FI store offers a financing option but you can also pay the phone right away at the $400/$450 price. As usual with these financing offers, check the terms, conditions and restrictions before jumping in.

NOTE however that Google has officially announced October 15 in 2019 as their big reveal date for their new Pixel phone (presumable the Pixel 4 line), so factor that in your decision…

A lot of other phones came out since the Pixel 3 was announced in the Fall of 2018 and as you can see at the Smartphone Rankings at Dxomark the Pixel 3 have “dropped” in the charts, just outside the Top 15. It should go without saying that an aggregate test score is by no means a complete evaluation of a device’s performance so be sure to read up on things if interested….

NEW GOOGLE FI Unlimited
The above offers are coinciding with the announcement of the Project Fi Unlimited plan for $70/month but it is about as unlimited as the big carriers as it slows down to 256kbps after 22GB during the month. If you prefer to continue at high speed, you can pay $10/GB on the traffic above 22GB.

The prices per line improve as you add lines/people to the plan. Two lines are $60/line/mo, three lines are $50/line/mo, four (or more) lines are $45/line/mo. The 22GB limit applies per individual line, not for the whole plan. Depending on one’s situation, this may or may not beneficial ~ eg adding a 2nd line instead of using a separate mobile hotspot. Or you can buy a data SIM and use a 2nd phone but on a single line (it will still eat up data but won’t pay for an extra line ~ for phone calls though, you have to hack it through Voice/Hangouts – it’s been a while since I did this, I don’t remember the details).

NOTE also that video streaming with Unlimited is down to 480p (DVD quality), but mobile hotspot is allowed (again within the aggregate phone-data + hotspot 22GB/line/month).

Meanwhile on the Amazon USA front, as part of the Kindle daily deals, you can get the “Under the Northern Lights” ebook by S.C Stephens for $1.99 [ebook is also part of Kindle Unlimited, so you can read it for free if a member]. “Mallory Reynolds is a driven woman fueled by her passion for photographing wild animals in remote locations. Every year she makes a trek deep into Alaska, but this time the unthinkable happens: she crash-lands after her plane stalls out in a storm. Injured, vulnerable, and threatened by the very creatures she loves…”

Minolta InstaPix 2 in 1 Bluetooth Camera and Printer for $110

Nothing lasts forever they say, but in the Walking Dead era, nothing stays dead forever either! Minolta (the brand name at least) is back with a camera! And it is the current Adorama “snapshot deal” which typically lasts for 24 hours or less. The sale is this [this phrase I picked up after all the repetition in Neil Gaiman’s American Gods [later adapted as a TV series on Starz]): the new condition Minolta InstaPix 2-in-1 Bluetooth Camera and Printer going for $110 with free US shipping for a limited time only. No coupon, no rebate, just add to cart and proceed to checkout while this limited-time promotion is running. You also earn 1% promotional rewards [free to join if you wish].

Speaking of Adorama, their latest deals and instant rebate offers number in the 5000+, so if you don’t have a wall-size screen [and the necessary time] to scroll through them all, you can filter them by manufacturer, price, product category, etc using the various options over there…

PS: this is indeed the first Minolta deal posted here since October 2014 when we moved this blog to WordPress. Wow, five years already πŸ™‚

Friday (EU): Ten Samyang Primes, Seven Tamron Zooms, 20+ Printers, Panasonic GX800 w/12-32, Etc

And now something with the pre-Brexit sufferers! Among the Friday Amazon Germany gold-box deals du jour there is a Tamron and Samyang lens sale with a number of Rollei-branded camera accessories (including one action cam and a 3-axis gimbal] on sale as well as a lone camera, the Panasonic GX800 with 12-32mm going for 320 euro. There’s also a few Panasonic camcorders.

The lenses are too many to list here individually, there’s ten Samyang primes, seven Tamron zooms [maybe they divided the lens turf for this daily deal], and there’s a Wallimex 14mm f2.8 for 259 euro hiding in their mix.

When you scroll further into the amazon.de gold box you will also find a big printer sale. Again too many to list here individually, there are over 20 printers from different brands (Canon, HP, Epson, Kyocera [lasers]) along with various inks and photo-papers. Some of the options are bundles of the above.

Friday: 5TB Seagate Backup Plus External HDD for $100 AC

The megapixels won’t automatically fully-backup [at least not with current technology], so secondary and tertiary and quadrangular and cingulangular backups are in need. Which brings us to the headliner of the NewEgg daily deals for Friday [it’s Friday already???] September Lucky-13 in 2019, the new condition 5TB Seagate Backup Plus Portable External Hard Drive (model STHP5000400, USB 3.0 ~ not sure anyone is still selling USB 2.0 anymore?) with a 1-year Mylio Create and a 2-month Adobe CC Photography plan, all together for $100 with free US shipping using coupon code 99RXP8 over there. This is sold and shipped by NuevoHuevo itself, not marketplace sellers.

PS: some of the words in this post may not be real [yet]

Weekend (B&H): ONA Brixton Messenger, Vello Bubble Levels

+ I must say, it looks very stylish and this is coming from a digital-hippy πŸ˜‰

+ ChargeWorx Magnetic Mount Kit for $10

+ TasCam TM-ST1 Mid-Side Stereo Microphone for $15

+ Vello Bubble Level for $6 to $10 (four options with different numbers of axises (okay axes (okay axis) ) )

Pre-order new 10.2-inch iPads starting at $329

A sign perhaps of Apple’s need to drive more sales among the “mere mortals”, this week saw the first official live-stream of a big Apple event in the modern era on YouTube and this was backed up by a Tim Cook statistics on the iPad ~ a lot of the iPad users are new and non-iPhone users, the iPad is bringing fresh blood in the shoppe.

Which brings us to the just-announced 10.2-inch iPads, they are now available to pre-order at B&H Photo with prices starting at $329 (Wifi, 32GB) and going +$100 for the jump to 128GB. For fans of 4G LTE, they have the usual +$130 on the Wifi-only model.

And there’s good reason iPads are keep getting bought up by non-platform users. Both Microsoft and Google tablets are in a state of non-existent confusion. Google can’t decide if they want Android or ChromeOS or both or neither for their tablets πŸ™‚ Microsoft can’t decide which variant of “Windows Lite” to launch this month πŸ˜‰

PS: if the CEO of Apple can get away with saying “eggspecially” can I also do it? Or is this too part of the Apple script to make the presentation feel more conversational/human/casual/relatable? I’m eggspecially interested in finding out!

20% off LensCoat lens covers (360+ options)

If you are a fan of the Lens Coat brand or lens covers as a product in general, good until 9/15/19 at 11:59pm ET, B&H Photo is having an in-cart special on LensCoat products. The price will drop by 20% off after you add it to the shopping cart. You don’t have to type in any coupon code. This is a while supplies last type of a promotion [in case of some models that may sell out ahead of time ~ or not].

Dell Outlet overstock sale, Monoprice Refurb/Open-box, Adorama Flash Sale

For the computer-inclined, the Dell Outlet is continuing its Overstock sale with various offerings as usual. The offers that require a promo code say so in their little virtual box that describes the offer.

Meanwhile the Dell Home store is continuing its semi-annual sale with 17% off savings on select items (some require promo code SAVE17). They also have optional 6-month financing offers on $499+ purchases (on approved credit, etc, etc, etc).

In other related action, MONOPRICE is having another refurbished and open-box sale with a variety of participating products. Monoprice, per their website, offers a 30-day money-back guarantee and a 90-day warranty on products in this category that are, per their website, inspected and tested. You can filter them by product category
and such on the left hand side of their website.

Speaking of Monoprice, they now have in-stock and shipping their new FORM technology backpacks with prices ranging from $60 to $90 with free US shipping.

And back to the camera front, ADORAMA is having another flash sale with over 650 camera and photo and accessories participating. The price you see is the price you pay as usual, with a number of the items having promotional rewards and/or free items with purchase.

256GB microSDXC cards: Sandisk Ultra for $38, Samsung EVO Select for $40

I’m still not sure what’s the difference between the “Plus” Sandisk memory cards sold at Best Buy [as seen in today’s earlier $45 256GB daily deal, but if you don’t want/need the PLUS, you can get the “regular” 256GB Sandisk Ultra microSDXC for $38~ by Amazon itself (up to 4 per customer).

Or if you prefer the way of Samsung, one of their many colors, the 256GB EVO Select (the green/lime) is going for $40 by Amazon itself.

Or if you prefer the 200GB storage option, the Sandisk Ultra goes for just a few pennies under $30 by Amazon itself [limit four per customer], or on the same listing you can jump to the 400GB card for $53.

These days I mostly get Samsung and Sandisk microSD cards. Samsung are the only ones so far that I have had zero problems with. (having said that, I probably jinxed myself and my Samsung card with the higher capacity and zero backups is going to go toast soon LOL]…
