Pre-order the new Samsung Galaxy S24 AI flagships

If you played a drinking game on the word “AI” during yesterday’s Samsung Unpacked, you would have needed a new liver by now! If what you saw excites you, or you just want to get the latest flagship as soon as it comes out, the pre-orders have began!

At the Samsung online shop they have big trade-in promotions, along with combined purchase offers, 20% off discount on Apple Care Samsung Care+, installment or monthly payment options, and lots more!

Amazon is offering a $200 Amazon gift card on the $1300 Galaxy S24 Ultra. You have to click on the little “Redeem” button and follow the instructions to get the free gift card, so be sure to slow down and pay attention to the ever-so-busy Amazon product page!

The S24 Plus ($1000) gets a $150 gift card, while the S24 ($800) gets a $50 gift card. For all three models, as part of the launch festivities, the higher on-board storage option is at the same price as the lower option. Considering the difference in the gift cards ($100 more) and the higher high storage options (256GB vs 512GB), the S24+ seems to be a more reasonable option instead of the S24 for $100 more (after the gift card is factored in as something you can easily use).

Similar offers can be found at the Best Buy website.

Various trade-in and other pre-order bonuses can be found at the various carrier websites such as AT&T Wireless and T-Mobile and Verizon Wireless which promises “a Watch and Tab all on us” providing you sign up for participating unlimited plans and make a trade-in.

As usual when dealing with carriers, be sure to pay attention to terms, conditions, restrictions, fineprint, fineprint on the fineprint itself, and have a law firm on retainer πŸ˜‰

Samsung S23 FE with $100 Gift Card for $600 to $660

If you want to have a phone whose name ends in S23 but don’t want to pay the price for the flagship triumvirate, Samsung has you covered too with the new “S23 FE” (Fan Edition) with a launch promotion of $600 bundled with a $100 Amazon plastic gift card. This is the 128GB. The 256GB version goes for +$60. You can also get it bundled with the new “FE Buds” for +$50. Because Samsung has a plan!

Speaking of Amazon, they are currently running a seven-page Clearance Sale on Amazon’s house brand products, including AmazonBasics bags (not camera-specific), cables, single-use batteries, and all kinds of things.

Pre-order the new Samsung Galaxy TAB S9 tablets with some discount offers

In addition to the previously mentioned Z Fold 5 and Flip 5 pre-orders, Samsung has also launched their new TAB S9 flagship tablet in three flavors. The base model starting at $800, the Plus starting at $1000 and the Ultra starting at $1200 for the Wifi-only versions. Thankfully the naming is consistent with their S-series smartphone flagships πŸ™‚

The official Samsung website has various pre-order and trade-in and financing offerings, and offers a free storage upgrade as follows:

+ 11-inch S9 base model from 8GB/128GB to 12GB/256GB
+ this is the most impactful free upgrade as both RAM and storage go up

+ 12.4″ S9 Plus with 12GB RAM, from 256GB to 512GB

+ 14.6″ S9 Ultra with 12GB RAM, from 256GB to 512GB

+ carrier options are available for the Plus model

$50 pre-order discount for the S9 Base and Plus models
If you don’t qualify or you are not interested or the dizzying Samsung website turns you off, B&H Photo is offering a $50 off in-cart discount, in addition to the free storage upgrade as follows:

+ 11-inch Tab S9 Base (Wifi only) with 12GB RAM and 256GB storage for $750 after in-cart pre-order discount
+ the little tab at the B&H page incorrectly says 16GB instead of 12GB
+ the product description correctly says 12GB
+ Samsung does NOT make a 16GB version, so no matter how much one can “Karen it”, they can’t get a 16GB version πŸ˜‰

+ 12.4″ TAB S9 Plus (Wifi-only) with 12GB RAM and 512GB storage for $950 after in-cart pre-order discount

+ as of the time of writing the 14.6″ TAB S9 Ultra is not listed at the B&H website

+ optionally, when you click on the “Build a Bundle” you can get a combined purchase discount if you buy it together with the Samsung Slim Book Cover Keyboard

+ the S-PEN is included with all the TAB S9 models (as it should)

Google Pixel 3 XL (64GB, unlocked) for $200

If you are looking for a budget pure Android phone that gets Android 12 but will not get any future OS updates, and you are not tempted by the boiling hot hype machine of the Google Pixel 6 ($600+ for the regular, $900+ for the PRO), then you may be interested in this limited time sale at B&H Photo, it is the new condition carrier-unlocked (T-Mobile Unlocked phone, works with CDMA and GSM) Google Pixel 3 XL (64GB, Just Black) on sale for $200 with free US shipping.

Note that the Pixel 3 will stop getting updates after October 2021 (as of the time of writing = NOW) per the Google help page. All Pixel phones before the Pixel 6 get three years of guaranteed OS and security updates. Starting with the Pixel 6, the security updates increase to five years. The OS updates remain at three years.

PS: for those not familiar with the Pixel line, keep in mind that there’s no microSD card and the non-a models do not have a headphone jack.

Pre-order the all new Pixel 6 phones for $599 or $899 [PRO] with FREE Pixel Buds

Google has just revealed their new Pixel 6 flagship phones and they priced them at old-school flagship prices. The actual flagship is the Pixel 6 PRO model going for $899 and for a limited time you can get free Google Pixel Buds at the B&H Photo pre-order page. The Google Store page is currently getting hammered as the hype machine is building steam for the phone.

Meanwhile the standard Pixel 6 (B&H Photo) is pre-orderable for $599 with the free Google Pixel Buds.

The above prices are for the 128GB models. The 256GB models go for $100 more on either options. As of the time of writing B&H only offers the 128GB models.

With the Pixel 6 models, Google is offering a minimum of five years of security updates.

The PRO flagship has an insane 12GB RAM, which cannot be found on most Windows computers LOL.

Google said during the live-stream that October 28 is the official release date…

More details on these and unboxings can be found on your favorite tech and smartphone websites and YouTubes and TikToks πŸ™‚

UPDATE: meanwhile at the official Google USA store the Pixel 6 PRO models in the Unlocked option are already sold-out, while some of the options remain in the “Google FI” option. I did not check the Verizon option… The Pixel 6 standard model is not sold out because the HYPE MACHINE is roaring mainly for the PRO model.

PS: if I decide to live-tweet the Samsung Unpacked event, I will post an alert on this blog as well; do people still live-tweet things or is that a thing of the past nowadays? πŸ™‚

The importance of the Pixel 3 is that it is the oldest (aka cheapest) Pixel phone to be getting Android 12 (Developer Preview already available) per the Google Support page. The cut-off point for the Pixel 3 models is October 2021. For a quick refresher on the Pixel phones, try the Wikipedia page

And for those of you participating in the Lucky’s Rewards program, this weekend’s B&M freebie is “BodyArmor Edge”, a caffeine + electrolytes type of a drink. I haven’t tried it and from the looks of the bottle, this looks more like something you’d put in an automobile engine πŸ˜‰

UPDATE #2 the latest Adorama daily deal (changes Sunday 10am ET) is a 50-pack of 3-ply disposable masks for $6…

Now shipping: Sony Xperia PRO 5G smartphone with HDMI Input

Smartphones have beautiful screens these days but very few companies have thought of using the smartphones as external monitors for actual digital cameras. One of those very few just came out, from a company that makes both cameras and smartphones, SONY! It is the brand new Sony Xperia PRO 5G smartphone. It comes with an actual HDMI input, opening its 4K OLED display to your cameras and anything else that outputs on HDMI. And that’s its defining characteristic! And it has optional wireless streaming kits for select cameras (not just select Sony Alphas but also the Nikon Z6 III and Canon R5).

And given the benefit and costs of alternative solutions, Sony has priced it very “pro”, $2500 for the smartphone kit, and about $150 to $175 more for the camera-specific wireless streaming kits. Needless to say, this is a purpose-built smartphone for photographers and videographers and YouTubers/streamers and such…

AS of the time of writing it is in-stock and ready to ship at B&H Photo at its starting price of $2500 (not a typo!)… It has a mid-Februry in-stock estimate at Amazon itself and it is in pre-order status at Adorama.

Note that this is built up on the Xperia 1 Mark II. If you only want a smartphone and not its defining HDMI input feature, you are better off with the Xperia 1 Mark II or any other modern smartphone OR you can wait for the upcoming Snapdragon 888 smartphones that include the upcoming Sony Xperia 1 Mark III…

For a brief overview of the Xperia PRO 5G used as an external camera monitor, here’s Mr Mobile’s take on it after about 1.5 weeks of use:

Samsung Trade-In Promotion Offers Up To $700 Credit Towards S21 flagships on select Galaxy, Pixels and iPhones [Cracked Screen Trade-Ins get $150 less]

The official Samsung USA online store is also offering a trade-in promotion for the new Samsung S21 three-headed flagship monster. The maximum you get is $700 with a working screen, or $550 with a cracked screen.

The trade-in credit promotion is stackable with the previously mentioned pre-order bonuses

The trade-in credit depends on which smartphone you trade-in for the S21*. It also has to meet the eligibility requirements (starts up, functions, factory reset, no cracks on screen and lenses, not on a banned list). Please do double-check as I may have made a mistake in the assembly of this list:

$700 trade-in credit

  • Note 20 and Note 20 Ultra
  • Galaxy S20, S20 Plus, S20 Ultra
  • iPhone 12, 12 Mini, 12 PRO, 12 PRO MAX

$550 trade-in credit

  • Galaxy S20 FE
  • Notes 10, 10 5G, 10 Plus
  • Galaxy S10, S10 5G, S10 Plus, S10e
  • iPhone 11, 11 PRO, 11 MAX, XS, XS MAX

$350 trade-in credit

  • Note 9
  • Galaxy S9, S9 Plus
  • Galaxy A71
  • Pixel 4, 4 XL
  • iPhone 8, 8 Plus, X, XR

$250 trade-in credit

  • Note 8
  • Galaxy S8, S8+, S8 Active
  • iPhone 7, 7 Plus

$200 trade-in credit

  • Galaxy S7, S7 Active, S7 Edge
  • Galaxy A51, A51 5G
  • Pixel 3, 3a, 3 XL, 3a XL
  • iPhone SE, 6S, 6S Plus

Cracked Screen phones are eligible but they usually give you $150 less in trade-in credit for them. The cost-n-profit of fixing/replacing the cracked screen πŸ™‚

Please do check all the details, terms, conditions and restrictions of this promotion. I have not done this type of a promotion before so I don’t have first hand experience to tell you how it works…

Pre-order bonuses with Samsung Galaxy S21* pre-orders

Yesterday, a day after the official “Diet CES 2021” ended, Samsung revealed their new Galaxy S three-headed flagship monster, the S21, S21 Plus and S21 Ultra [see Footnote #1]. If you missed the live unveiling, you can watch the 88 minute socially-distanced presentation (silver lining, COVID-era pre-recorded presentations start on time)

And as usual, Samsung is running a pre-ordering promotion until January 28 in 2021 with the freebies depending on which model you buy:

+ $100 store credit with the S21
+ $150 store credit with the S21 Plus
+ $200 store credit with the S21 Ultra
+ store credit at the Samsung.com online store and/or the Shop Samsung app

+ when you redeem the store credit at Samsung’s, a Galaxy SmartTag will be included automatically for free during checkout
+ neat trick to “encourage” using the store credit

+ promotion ends 1/28/21

The terms and conditions are a little hard to find and with fineprint at the Samsung website, so I’m cut-n-pasting them here. The terms are as of the time of writing of this blog-post. I do not know if they plan to change them in the future…

“18+ & 50 US/DC/PR/USVI only. By 1/28/21, pre-order and purchase a Samsung Galaxy S21 5G, S21+ 5G, or S21 Ultra 5G on device installment plan, 2-year contract plan, lease or outright purchase at full retail price (β€œQualifying Purchase”), & receive a Samsung Galaxy SmartTag ($30 value) + Samsung Credit either (i) $100 (S21 5G), (ii) $150 (S21+ 5G), or (iii) $200 (S21 Ultra 5G) (β€œGift”). Only available while supplies last. By 2/28/21, using your Qualifying Purchase device, follow instructions on the Shop Samsung app (β€œApp”) to submit required info. Gifts will be emailed apprx 4-6 weeks after verification of Qualifying Purchase. Only 47,000 $100, 37,000 $150, and 47,000 $200 Samsung Credits available. Samsung Credits are valid only at www.Samsung.com or in the App for use towards an eligible purchase, and valid through 4/30/21. Gifts subject to availability and are non-transferrable. Limit 1 Gift per Qualifying Purchase. Void where prohibited or restricted by law. Additional restrictions apply. Offer subject to additional terms here. Samsung reserves the right to modify or discontinue offer at any time by posting notice on the app or website”

FootNote #1 once upon a time it was a three-headed monster. With the S20 flagship, it’s actually a five-headed monster because there’s also the “Lite” and the “Fan Edition”. Who knows how many variants we’ll get for the 2021 model? The “Stan” edition? The “Shipper” edition? The “Limited Edition”? The “Insiders” edition? The “Valentine” edition? πŸ˜‰

$30 to $50 e-GiftCards with pre-orders of new OnePlus Nord smartphones ($180 and $300)

The tech world works in mysterious ways. While the most recent OnePlus flagship series was not greeted as a liberator, OnePlus had a surprise hit with their Nord affordable line. And they have revealed two new models in the Nord line at Diet CES 2021…

For a limited time, if you pre-order them during this window, B&H Photo will include a $30 or $50 (depending on model) B&H Photo e-gift card. The offer is good while you see it mentioned at the B&H product page, look for something like this: “Includes Free: 1 item ($30.00 value)”

The Nord N100 (64GB) goes for $180 with the $30 B&H e-gift card included automatically by B&H. This phone has 4G LTE (no 5G, so you won’t regrow a tail), with 4GB RAM, SnapDrogon 460 with Adreno 610, 6.52″ (1600×720, 90Hz, IPS-type LCD, Gorilla 3) screen, USB-C, headphone jack, microSD slot, Wifi 5, Bluetooth 5, fingerprint, etc.

If you want higher specs, the 5G Nord N10 (128GB) goes for $300 with a $50 B&H e-gift card included automatically by B&H while this promotion is running. This has 6GB of RAM, SnapDrogon 690 with Adreno 619L, 6.49″ (2400×1080, 90Hz, 405ppi, Gorilla 3, IPS-type LCD) screen, USB-C, headphone jack, microSD, Wifi 5, Bluetooth 5.1, etc…

NOTE: I don’t see NFC in the B&H specs of either at their aforelinked product pages, so this is something you may want to further look into if you want to use it for contactless payments and such… Under Q&A, for the Nord N10, a B&H staff member answered a customer-question saying this has NFC… But to be certain, be sure to google around multiple places, including the usually-reliable “phone arenas” and such…

Pre-order the all new OnePlus 8T for $749 with FREEbie

Rumors of the upcoming Pixel 4a smartphone are swirling across the universe, but if you don’t want to wait, B&H Photo is having a sale on the current generation, the Pixel 3a. The standard 3a model goes for $279 in various colors, while the larger Pixel 3a XL goes for $319…

Picking a phone these days is hard if you are not predisposed to particular brands or features (eg S-Pen). Let’s not forget the Pocophone F2 PRO is coming too starting at $500!

Pocophone F2 PRO smartphone (6/128GB version, pop-up selfie camera) for $500

If you hate notches or Selfie cameras, or you are very pro-privacy and don’t want the smartphone’s selfie camera to take unauthorized pictures, you may be interested in the brand new Xiaomi Pocophone F2 PRO smartphone. The selfie camera is a pop-up camera, nestled inside the body. It pops out in order to take a picture. And because of this, there’s no notch/holepunch or whatever that thing is called, the thing that ruins the serene surface of the front of the phone πŸ™‚

The 6GB RAM with 128GB storage (no microSD, but it has a 3.5mm headphone jack) version of the phone is already available for purchase for $500 in various colors at Gear Best which also has the 35-minute launch video, YouTube-embedded below for your phone-entertainment…

This has the Snapdragon 865 processor, Sony IMX686 1/1.7″ pixel-binning 64mp sensor on the main camera (of the five), UFS 3.1, liquid cooling technology, 4700 mAh battery, etc, etc, …

Google Pixel 4 for $500+, Pixel 4 XL for $600+

The ghosts of the Nexus phones are haunting the Pixel 4, but if you’ve read the reviews, pixel-peeped the sample pictures, and you are certain the Pixel 4* line is the one for you, for a limited time B&H Photo is having discounts on select Pixel 4 phones as follows:

+ Pixel 4: 64GB for $500, 128GB for $600

+ Pixel 4 XL: 64GB for $600, 128GB for $700

These are new condition, factory unlocked, with USA warranty. B&H includes a free case and Mint Mobile SIM card.

NOTE that the Pixel 4 phones do NOT have a headphone jack, and they do NOT have a microSD slot. But you can swim in the Google Clouds πŸ™‚

A lot of people consider the Pixel 4 to have the most pure camera, but not all agree. For example, it is currently at #19 in the DxoMark rankings which have two of the new Honor *30* phones in the Top 5. SPOILER ALERT: the #1 in the ranking is a …LEICA πŸ™‚

NOTE that the latest Huaweii P40* series of phones do NOT have Google Play because of the Huaweii embargo thing. If you look in the forums, there are various hacks that come and go, but come on, it’s 2020, who wants to hunt and peck hacks just so you can run basic apps on your phone?

I remember doing this ten years ago with a crappy Pandigital (?) tablet I got on sale at Radio Shaq. No way I would do this now, there are a gazillion other phones available. But that’s just me. Some people love the excitement of living on the Google Play Frontier πŸ™‚

Samsung Galaxy S20 for $800, S20+ for $1000 [with FREE 128GB microSD]

A limited time offer is running at B&H Photo on the new condition unlocked with USA warranty Samsung S20 and S20+ flagship series smartphones! And during this promotion, each one gets a free 128GB Samsung EVO Plus microSDXC card included by B&H.

The prices are as follows: the 128GB S20 goes for $800, while the 128GB S20+ (aka Plus) goes for $1000, while the 512GB of that goes for $1150.

Further down the list, and not getting the free 128GB microSD card you will find international Latin America versions of the S20 Ultra (the more expensive of this flagship trio) going for $1200. One clue as to the internationality is the “dual SIM” in the title. These come with a 1-year B&H warranty. NOTE that this has the Exynos chip, not the QualComm SnapDragon.

NOTE also that these are 5G phones, so you may accidentally intercept intergalactic planetary conversations πŸ™‚

In-Stock NOW: Google Pixel 3a for $299, 3a XL for $379

Per the Deals Fairness Doctrine (TM), since we’ve been posting iOS/Apple deals left and right, we must needs post something Android as well, and as fate would have it, Google’s brand new Pixel 3a models are now in-stock and shipping at B&H Photo! The Pixel 3a standard model goes for $299 while the XL model goes for $379.

Unlike the iPhones, the only option here is on the body color. The “3a” has a modest 5.6″ 18.5:9 OLED with Snapdragon 670, 4GB RAM, 64GB storage, Bluetooth 5.0, Android 9 and *GASP* a headphone jack πŸ™‚ The “3a XL” [they really need to work on the naming-numbering scheme] has a 6-inch screen. Free unlimited storage on Google Photos is included along with three years of OS and security updates.

UPDATE: per the “Post Saving Doctrine”, to save up on having an additional short post, B&H is also having a sale on various computer monitors as more and more people are working from home and may need more or better monitors…

The silver lining of the Corona-mandated “work from home” is an opportunity for many companies and individuals and cities and states to study work from home ideas and programs to further reduce traffic and congestion in places where it’s impossible not to be in a traffic jam always and forever and ever!
