Genaray Beacon LED Wand-Style Light with FREE Battery & Barndoors for $179

On the lighting side of things, the Genaray Beacon LED Wand-Style Light is on sale for $179 until the end of October 2019 (or earlier if sold out) at B&H Photo but that’s not all.

B&H is also including two free items automatically with purchase. These are mentioned in the listing while this offer is running (“Includes Free: 2 items $69.94 value”):

Kindle Offer (YMMV): Spend $15+, Get $4 ebook credit

This is a targeted / invited offer, so there’s no general use link. You will find the offer while browsing around the Amazon website, or if you want to “encourage” their website to show you the offer (if you are eligible for it) start browsing around their eBooks pages

The offer is this: spend $15+ in any Kindle ebook purchase(s) between August 27 and September 5 in 2019, and receive a $4 ebook credit towards future purchases. The $4 credit will be automatically added to your account two days after you reach the limit, and will be used automatically in your next eligible e-book purchases in the next 30 days after it was received. If not used within 30 days, it evaporates.

In addition to general fiction/non-fiction, there’s a number of camera and photography related ebooks. The ones with pictures and diagrams are best enjoyed on larger color screens but text-only books (eg Susan Sontag’s essays) can be nicely read on e-readers.

NOTE that you must manually hit the “Activate Now” button while logged on to your Amazon account in order for the offer to …activate 🙂

In-stock alert: Firefox 69 now blocks 3rd-party cookies

We have an in-stock alert of a totally different kind! Version #69 (they chose an important number for it LOL) of Firefox is now rolling out on all major systems and with it comes blocking of third-party cookies, which is one of the more common and effective ways the Advertising Industrial Complex is keeping tabs on us all. If you don’t want to install it immediately, it will prompt you for an update (Linux, Windows) or get updated when you do your next app-store update (iOS, Android).

PSA for Amazon shoppers: 3rd-party sellers hijacking listings of discontinued Amazon-branded products

This is a PSA for Amazon shoppers, especially for fans of Amazon’s own brands. Once upon a time Amazon had zero “house brands”. Then they shyly began with AmazonBasics and now they have dozens and dozens of their product brands that probably not even the people working at Amazon’s marketing can name them from memory.

Anyway, to cut a long story short, when some of the Amazon-branded (eg AmazonBasics) products get discontinued, some “crafty” 3rd-party sellers hijack the listings offering their own products and using existing reviews of the AmazonBasics products as instant credibility for their products.

Details at The Verge and more via Techmememe

Labor Day only: 60% off site-wide at CreativeLIVE

Happy Labor Day from CreativeLive as they are offering a 60% off sale site-wide on their classes. The price you see is the price you pay. No coupon needed. When the sale ends, the prices will go up. For example, a $199 class (the first one you see, “Fundamentals of Photography”) is now a $79 class thanks to the 60% off discount (or easier math to do 40% off on the original price instead of doing a multiplication (by 0.6) and a subtraction (from the full price).

This sale is great for classes that are rarely discounted or don’t get featured in the rotating free-to-watch-while-streaming classes at the ON-AIR schedule
