AI is not just in smartphones anymore! Canon has revealed their brand new Canon Speedlite 470EX-AI flash with pre-order price of $399 and a May 1st release estimate, and pre-orders for this smarty-pants flash are accepted at B&H Photo and Amazon itself and Adorama…
DSLRs have just scored two goals thanks to Canon! Canon revealed two entry-level Digital Rebels this week, the D-Rebel T7 (2000D), a follow-up to the good old T6, and an even more entry-level model, the 4000D which so far has only been announced in Europe. The D-Rebel T7 with come out with the 18-55 kit lens and a starting price of $550. Pre-orders are not accepted (not that anyone should pre-order them at this price).
Nevertheless, DSLRs will take any and all new models at the moment as they are trailing mirrorless cameras 7-3 among the New Cameras of 2018.
Sony has plenty of 35mm full frame cameras [see 35mm full frame price charts] but that’s not stopping them from revealing a brand new model! The Sony a7 III body only is now an official product and pre-orders of it will begin on Wednesday 2/28/18 at 11am eastern at authorized Sony dealers.
The starting price is $2000 for the body only, and $2200 for the kit with the 28-70mm lens. A listing for the camera is available at B&H Photo and Adorama with the pre-ordering option activating on Wednesday at 11am eastern.
This has been added to the New Cameras of 2018 tracking page and has given mirrorless cameras a 7-1 lead over DSLRs in 2018.
Priced in-between the Canon M5 and the M6 [see Mirrorless Price Chart], the brand new Canon M50 was revealed yesterday with three different kits:
+ M50 body only for $779 in black or white
+ M50 with 15-45 for $899 in black
+ M50 with 15-45 and 55-200 for $1249 in black
These kits are now available for pre-ordering at Adorama and B&H Photo.
The new camera has been added to the New Cameras of 2018 where it has increased the Mirrorless lead over DSLRs in 2018 to 6-1.
Sigma revealed their all new Sigma 14-24mm f2.8 DG HSM ART zoom lens in early February for the Canon, Nikon and Sigma SLR systems but they did not reveal a price. Now the lens is available for pre-ordering and for that you have to reveal a price, and the price was not a sticker shock (compared to Canon and Nikon f2.8 pro zooms), $1300 and available for pre-ordering at Adorama and B&H Photo. There is no specific release date yet.
There is no theme, this is like rolling the blogging dice, things are coming in from all directions! 🙂 Now we have a pre-order of a brand new micro four thirds pro lens, almost a constant aperture but not quite! It is the brand new Panasonic 50-200mm f2.8-4 Power OIS (Lumix G, Leica, aspherical, Vario-Elmarit) available for pre-ordering for $1698 at Adorama and B&H Photo… It has been added to the New Lenses of 2018 tracking page…
The Samsung S9/S9+ was officially revealed earlier today and pre-orders are scheduled for March 2nd, and they include trade-in offers if you are willing to part with your existing smartphones (at least the ones eligible for the trade-in promotions). You can reserve and be notified but the actual pre-orders will happen on March 2nd. Which may sound like it’s in the future but it’s actually Friday at 12:01am ET! Shipment and in-store availability is March 16 (two weeks later, also a Friday obviously).
+ Samsung’s own website offers the S9 for $720 and the S9 Plus for $840, unlocked with USA warranty
+ their website will also offer carrier versions of the phone when they become available
+ AT&T offers it through their NEXT plan on a 30-month installment plan of $26~ and $30~ per month respectively
+ T-Mobile offers them on a 24-month $30/month installment plan; the S9+ has $120 down, while the S9 does not
+ Sprint offers them on a 24-month installment plan of $33/mo and $38/mo respectively
+ Verizon has 24-month installments of $33~ and $39~ per month respectively
+ other regional and emerging carriers should also be announcing their offers
+ as usual, the carriers have a variety of terms, conditions, restrictions and traps when you sign up for their installment plans, so be sure to read through it all!
If you are a fan of lens filters, Tiffen has unleashed a new lien of NATural Neutral Density Filters and they are available for pre-ordering at Adorama with 76 different options. You can use the left sidebar over there to filter (no pun intended) the options by size or stops or price range. Prices range from $109 to $699.

Perhaps as a sign of the times, along with the new 70-210mm f4 Di VC, Tamron has announced the development of a new temptation for mirrorless! It is the brand new Tamron 28-75mm f/2.8 Di III RXD for the 35mm full frame Sony E system. The lens is not available for pre-ordering yet (it doesn’t have a price attached to it) but B&H Photo has created a product page for it with the information revealed so far by Tamron.

F4 constant aperture zooms are often trade-offs many photographers are willing to make over f2.8 constant aperture zooms. And Tamron is back with a new one, the Tamron 70-210mm f4 Di VC USD is available in the Canon and Nikon systems with a starting price of $800, available for pre-ordering as such at B&H Photo and Adorama…

Rokinon strikes again with a manual prime lens under their “SP” tag, it is the SP 50mm f1.2 lens available only in the Canon EF with a starting price of $999 and available for pre-ordering at B&H Photo…
This should not be confused with the non-SP existing Rokinon 50mm f1.2 mirrorless system lens which is available in M43, Fuji X, Canon EF-M and Sony E starting at $380. Mayhaps it went on sale to celebrate the arrival of the SP? 🙂

Finally after almost two months, the DSLRs have “scored a goal”, the K1 II is the first DSLR announced in 2018, and the first 35mm full frame camera of 2018.
Andy Rubin’s Essential Phone is back with a new super-tiny 360 degree camera (optional accessory, $218 on its own), and a new color of the phone, the Halo Gray with a pre-order price of $450 (ships 2/21/18).
Better yet, if you want both the phone and the new super-tiny 360-degree camera, you can buy them together as a bundle for $500 in the new Halo Gray and the existing Pure White color scheme (this combo is shipping already).
We begin the Pre-Order-a-palooza that was promised with some of the new cameras and lenses that were officially announced this week, starting with the new flagship of the Fuji X-system, the new X-H1, with an in-body image-stabilization to boot! This is the fifth new mirrorless camera revealed in 2018 [see New Cameras of 2018 tracker], giving Mirrorless cameras a commanding 5-0 lead over Team DSLR.
FUJI X-H1 BODY ONLY
The Fuji X-H1 body only is available for pre-ordering for $1900 at Adorama and B&H Photo and Amazon by Amazon itself with a March 1st release estimate. Do note however that estimates are only estimates and they change over time!
BATTERY GRIP for FUJI X-H1
A flagship camera is not a flagship without a dedicated battery grip, and the X-H1 is getting the Fujifilm VPB-XH1 Vertical Power Booster Grip for $329, available for pre-ordering by Amazon itself and Adorama and B&H Photo.
There is also a pre-order option for the X-H1 bundled with the battery grip with a $30 combo discount, $2199 instead of $2229 🙂

You can buy boxes and boxes of lox for the price of this new Loxia lens! Zeiss, like Voigtlander just did, has revealed a brand new prime lens for the Sony E-system. The new lens is the ZEISS Loxia 25mm f2.4 with a late March 2018 release estimate and a starting price of $1299 and available for pre-ordering for B&H Photo and Adorama…
But that’s not all! This new lens has now been added to the Zeiss Loxia Lens Bundle which now includes five Zeiss primes with a transport case for $5987 with free shipping. This too is a pre-order! Adorama is offering an optional 12-month $499/month financing promotion on this, on approved credit and all that good stuff.

2018 looks like another year where the smartphone flagship wars will heat up even more. It’s Huawei’s turn now, their brand new Mate 10 PRO is available for pre-ordering for $800, the unlocked US variant but that’s not all!
