Stock Update: D850/a7 III hard to find; G9, X-H1, K-1 II retired

Today’s update of the Stock Status Tracker has status quo fro the Sony a7 III kits and the Nikon D850 body only, they continue to be hard to find in-stock at their normal price at authorized dealers. But if you want the D850 filmmaker’s kit, there is one unit available for $5500 by Kenmore on eBAY.

Meanwhile the Pentax K-1 II, Fuji X-H1 and Panasonic G9 had been steadily in-stock and at the same prices, so I “retired” them from the Stock tracker. However, I save all the “retired” entries, so in case something changes in the future and they need to be brought back, they can be brought back in a flash.

Deal Follow-Up: the $2 Phone Tripod from Jan-2018 still hasn’t shipped

This is a deal follow-up! In late January 2018 there was a $2 doorbuster sale on a mobile/smartphone tripod for $2, sold and shipped by Amazon. As of this recheck, this has not yet shipped and it does not have a shipping estimate. So why hasn’t it shipped even though it’s offered for sale at amazon.com?

That’s because it’s a different seller. The $2 doorbuster was offered by Amazon itself, while the current listing over there is offered by a 3rd-party sellers. Items purchased on Amazon are from an individual, specific seller, so if that seller doesn’t have it, they can’t force other sellers to ship it you and honor their prices [imagine if you sell your camera, you wouldn’t want Amazon to force you to sell it for a crazy price].

I am cancelling my order, so I won’t have any future updates for it. Three months is more than a reasonable time to wait for it 🙂

Prime Membership Annual Fees will increase to $119

Amazon keeps adding more and more to the Prime Benefits, but that’s not all. They strategically decided to go BIG with their TV streaming business, making expensive purchases and plans, such as an upcoming Lord of the Rings TV series. So the writing was on the wall that the Prime membership fee would go up.

And it is. Annual Prime membership fees will increase from $99 to $119. Discussion of the news organized nicely by Techmeme.

The $119/year membership fee goes in effect on May 11 for new members, and June 16 for renewals of existing subscriptions. You can cancel your existing subscription before it renews if you don’t want to pay this higher subscription fee.

If you want to get in at the $99 for the first year, as a new or previous Prime member, you can sign up for Prime Membership now for $99.

As far as I can tell, existing Prime members cannot manually renew their subscription ahead of time using the Prime account website. I don’t know if it’s possible to renew it ahead of time by talking/live-chatting to a customer service representative.
