eBay has launched another limited time coupon, coupon code PERFECTSTART gets you 20% off on purchases of $25+. The maximum discount is $50, other words, if the price is over $250, you get a flat $50 discount instead of 20%. Coupon expires May 4th in 2017.

A good place to look for ideas are the eBay Deals along with the Trending Deals (shows only 100 trending deals, less overwhelming to look at than their main deals page). There’s also a dedicated search box there that searches only the Deals, not everything else on eBay.

Self-Stirring Lens-Shaped Coffee Mug for $12 + $2 S&H [AAA powered]

Lens-shaped coffee mugs are everywhere these days, but what if you want to take your coffee-lensing to the next level? How about a a self-stirring coffee-shaped lens-mug? It is currently on sale for $13 plus $2 flat shipping at Stacksocial. Don’t forget to use any coupons (eg new customer) or credits you may have. The self-stirring is not powered by your love of coffee, but by two AAA batteries.

This is listed as 11 ounces, so if you are buying coffee at coffee shops, it won’t match the standard 12/16/20/24 sizes. You can try to convince them to sell you the kids size (8 oz) if they have it 🙂 However, if the coffee shop has free refills (eg Starbucks Gold Rewards), then losing an extra ounce is no big deal. Then again, with some places, you don’t want to drink any more of their coffee, even with unlimited free refills 🙂

If you plan to use this regularly, this 4-pack of Eneloop AAA Pre-Charged NiMHs currently goes for $7.60 at Amazon. They are not Add-ON, so Prime members get them in 2~ days without the need to buy anything else. These AAA are 750 mAh minimum (800 mAh “type”), with up to 2100 recharges. They are also eligible for “Subscribe and Save” as well. Limit one set for each purchase option.

Speaking of Stacksocial, their Pay What You Want Photography Bundle continues. $1+ gets you two classes, while meeting/beating the average price of $12.84 gets you all nine items (seven classes, two assets (stock photos to be experimented upon for class learnings)). More Pay What You Want options at our previous post.

Today’s entertainment video, the self-stirring coffee mug:

Pre-order new Surface Laptop starting at $999

Today’s Microsoft big event launched “Windows 10 S” (Windows RT reborn in the shadow of ChromeOS), and a brand new Surface Laptop that comes with Windows 10 S out of the box (but upgreable to Windows 10 PRO for $$$). The Surface Laptop is going after the MacBooks, with prices starting at $999 and pre-orders and custom configurations available at the official Microsoft Store. It is expected to begin shipping mid-June 2017.

Customization is in the processor (i5 or i7), RAM (4GB to 16GB), on-board storage (128GB to 512GB SSD), graphics card (Intel HD 620 or Iris Plus 640) and color (four options). Some of the options are interlinked, so you can’t get every combination. It is also compatible with some of the Surface accessories, making it more of a system play if you are already part of the Surface ecosystem (Surface Dial, Surface Dock, etc).

The screen is a 13.5-inch with 2256 x 1504 (201 PPI) resolution, a 3:2, with Gorilla Glass. It is compatible with the Surface Pen, however a Surface Pen is NOT included, despite the $1000 starting price 🙁 It has a full size USB 3.0 port, but not SD card reader built-in. With a renewed focus on education, it will be interesting to see whether Adobe and other photo/imaging software companies will be more motivated to put more of their software in the Windows store. Battery life promises up to 14.5 hours of video playback. It can connect to a 4K monitor using the built-in Mini Display Port.

So there are some things going for it in terms of photography-related use. It’s obviously not a mobile workstation, but for people who need a sleek and modern-looking laptop with a long battery life and access to the Surface ecosystem, this might be of interest (as long as the software options work out for your needs).

If you need some semi-funny (maybe) entertainment, I was live-tweeting / live-trolling the announcement on Twitter 🙂

+ the Nikon D7500 moved to the bottom of the table since it’s still a few weeks away

Canon 50mm f1.4 and 17-40mm f4L for $850

On their own, the two lenses go for $750 and $330 respectively, making it a value play if you need/want both lenses, or don’t mind gifting/selling/trading the one you don’t want.

This is available in Blue or Red. With the coupon, the individual colors are cheaper than the 2-pack which goes for $45 and it is not coupon-eligible. These average 4.6 out of 5 based on 28 customer reviews. The maker is “Engineerable”, which also makes a Focus Shifter but there’s no coupon on that one.

Speaking of batteries, the previously mentioned 100pk AC Delco single-use AA is going for $12.12 or slightly less if you do “Subscribe and Save”. The AC Delco is Prime-only and limit one per customer. Meanwhile the AmazonBasics 100pk sale ended, they jumped to $24 as of this recheck.
