It certainly takes a lot of onions to release a $500+ entry-level DSLR in 2016, but that’s what happens when you have much and more market share. Canon has a brand new entry-level D-Rebel, the T6, with prices starting at $550 for the with 18-55 EF-S IS II kit lens. Or an extra $200 (!!!) more bundled with the non-IS non-USM 75-300mm EF f4-5.6 III lens. These are available for pre-order at Adorama and B&H Photo and Amazon by Amazon itself.

Pre-order new Sony HX80 compact-zoom (30x) for $348
There is a new Cybershot 30x optical zoom compact-zoom in the Sony line-up, it is the HX80, with an 18mp BSI CMOS sensor and it is available for pre-order for $348 at B&H Photo. There are many and more superzooms out there, figuring out which one to get is no easy task 🙂
Pre-order Insta360 Spherical Video Camera for $900
The VR train appears to be more sturdy than the 3D train was, here comes another new 360 spherical camera, the Insta360 Spherical Video Camera (dual Sony CMOS sensors, dual 230-degree fisheye lenses) is available for pre-ordering for $900 plus shipping at B&H Photo. There is no release estimate yet.
Pre-orders for new DJI Phantom 4 start 3/23/16
DJI wants to mix March Madness with Drone Madness. Their just-announced DJI Phantom 4 with obstacle avoidance technology (why did it take so many models before this got added) will be available for purchase on March 23 in 2016. The Phantom 4 kit will go for $1400 while its official backpack will go for $200.

Nikon is joining the party of larger than 1/1.x” sensor compacts with RAW with a new series of cameras, the DL-Series, with a 1-inch backlit CMOS sensor in each and everyone of the three of them. Nikon has rebooted the naming scheme of their superzoom digital cameras, opting for a simpler A/B naming scheme. Today brought us three new 1/2.3″ BSI CMOS superzooms, the B700 with RAW and a 60x optical zoom lens, the B500 with a 40x optical zoom lens, and the A900 compact-zoom with a 35x optical zoom lens. We start our last block of pre-order-ly posts with the Nikon DF-E1 Electronic Viewfinder to be used with the new DL Series Nikon cameras announced today. The EVF is not currently available for pre-ordering and it does not have a price yet, but at least it has a B&H Photo product page.
No Pre-Orders Yet: Sigma SD Quattro APS-H and APS-C Mirrorless Foveon iLCs
This is the year of miracles and wonders. Not only do we finally get the Pentax Unicorn but now we have a Foveon sensor that is breaking the APS-C glass ceiling. Sigma has two new SD-series interchangeable-lens cameras, the Sigma SD Quattro H with an APS-H sensor, and the Sigma SD Quattro with an APS-C sensor. These are mirrorless cameras that take Sigma SA Lenses that are part of the Sigma Global Vision. No prices and no pre-order options as of the time of writing, but having product pages is a step in the right direction.
No Pre-orders yet: Sigma EF-630 Flash (C/N/Si)
Sigma has also revealed a brand new hot shoe flash, the EF-630, to be available in the Canon, Nikon and Sigma SLR mounts. It is not available for pre-order as of the time of writing, but it already has a product page at B&H Photo which is a step in the right direction.
Pre-order Tamron 90mm f2.8 Di Macro VC USD for $650
Of the three new Tamron products announced this week, we finally have one that can actually be pre-orders right now. It’s another stabilized prime, the Tamron 90mm f2.8 Di Macro VC USD, with a modest pre-order price of $650 in the Canon, Nikon and Sony Alpha SLR mounts. No mail-in rebates, which many Tamron lenses “suffer” from 🙂 It is available for pre-order in all three mounts at B&H Photo. Shipping charges apply on this pre-order.
No Pre-orders Yet: Tamron 85mm f1.8 Di VC USD (C/N/A) [Stabilized!]
If you are a fan of stabilized full frame primes, Tamron wants you! They have revealed the brand new Tamron 85mm f1.8 Di VC USD (VC = optical image stabilization), available in the Canon, Nikon and Sony-Minolta-Dyxum SLR mounts. It is not yet available for pre-orders and it does not have a price yet, but it is listed at the B&H Photo website so that’s a step in the right direction. The Tamron press release says “Pricing and delivery will be announced shortly”, but “shortly” is not defined.
Pre-order new Lowepro Hatchback BP AW II Backpacks ($80 or $100)
And now back to the pre-order train, we have hatchbacks. No, we are not talking about cars, but camera bags! The brand new Lowepro Hatchback series backpacks are available for pre-order at B&H Photo. The BP 150 AW II goes for $80, while the BP 250 AW II for $100. Each is available in two different colors.
Pre-order new Ricoh WG-M2 Action Camera for $300
Action cameras continue to survive, despite attacks from cameraphones and dedicated action cameras like the GoPro. Ricoh has a brand new model out now, available for pre-order for $300, in orange or black at Amazon by Amazon herself and B&H Photo and Adorama.
No Pre-Orders Yet for new Tamron TAP-In Console (C/N/A)
Tamron is boldly going with a new TAP-In Console that would allow photographers to upgrade the firmware of compatible Tamron lenses on their own using a computer and an internet connection and of course the TAP-in console. This will be available for Tamron Canon EF lenses, and Nikon F lenses, and Sony Minolta A lenses. This product is listed at B&H Photo but it is not available for pre-order as of the time of writing.
Pre-order new Sigma MC-11 E-mount Converters for $249 (Sigma Canon OR Sigma Sigma Lenses)
I forgot to include this one in the Sigma block below, so here it comes on its own. If you have Sony E-mount cameras, and also Canon or Sigma SLR lenses, this new Sigma MC-11 E-mount converter allows you to mount Sigma Global Vision lenses (Canon EF or Sigma SA) to Sony E-mount camera bodies. This critter is available for pre-order for $249 for either Sigma Canon EF Mount Lenses or Sigma SA Mount Lenses.

It is nice to see Canon taking the compacts with RAW seriously again. And they have yet another new model, it is the second generation of the Canon G7-X, the “G7 X Mark II” with a 20mp 1″ CMOS sensor and 24-100mm eq f1.8-2.8 lens and a starting price of $700 at Adorama and B&H Photo.
UPDATE: As of 2/23/16 it is still not available for pre-order… As 2/18/16 at 12:08am ET, this is not available for pre-order yet. But the 80D kits are available for pre-order…

Pre-order new Pentax K-1 Full Frame DSLR for $1800 [updated with Battery Grip]
Many thought the day would never come, but it’s here! The Pentax K-1 35mm Full Frame DSLR is now a real product, with a 36mp non-AA CMOS sensor, sensor-shift stabilization, weather sealed, dual SD slots, and more. You can now pre-order it as a body only kit for $1800 at Adorama and B&H Photo (early April 2016 release estimate) and Amazon by Amazon itself (late April 2016 estimate).
Also new is the Pentax D-BG6 Battery Grip available for pre-order for $230 plus shipping at B&H Photo. No release estimate yet. I haven’t found it at other retailers. It holds one D-LI90P Battery.

Pre-orders now accepted for Sony a6300, 85/1.4 GM, 24-70 f2.8 GM
It is Wednesday, which means, among many other things, that last week’s Sony new FE lenses and a6300 APS-C camera (see Cameras and Lenses of 2016 page) are now available for pre-order. The a6300 body goes for $1000, with the 16-50 lens for $1150. The 24-70mm f2.8 GM (G Master, not General Motors) goes for $2200, while the prime time 85mm f1.4 GM goes for $1800. You can find them all nicely organized at Adorama.
PS: No price (or pre-orders) yet for the 70-200mm f2.8 OSS GM.

For the boldly patient early adopters, B&H Photo is accepting pre-orders for the SOLOSHOT Optic25 Camera for SOLOSHOT3 for $218~ with free shipping. Release estimate is June 2016, so patience is a virtue 🙂 This is an integrated camera-lens, 12mp 1/2.3″ backlit CMOS with 25x optical zoom to be used with the SoloShot3* robotic cameraman systems.
New Sony a6300 and three new serious FE lenses – Pre-orders next Wedn AM
Sony continues with their two-parter announcement/pre-order, instead of the conventional same-day approach. They have revealed a new 24mp APS-C E-mount camera (a6300) along with three FE lenses (24-70 and 70-200 f2.8s and 85/1.4 prime). Pre-orders will be accepted on Wednesday 2/10/16 in the AM. The a6300 body will start at $1000, the 24-70 at $2200, the 85/1.4 at $1800. The 70-200 price is not available yet… These too have been added to the Cameras and Lenses of 2016 tracking page…
