It certainly takes a lot of onions to release a $500+ entry-level DSLR in 2016, but that’s what happens when you have much and more market share. Canon has a brand new entry-level D-Rebel, the T6, with prices starting at $550 for the with 18-55 EF-S IS II kit lens. Or an extra $200 (!!!) more bundled with the non-IS non-USM 75-300mm EF f4-5.6 III lens. These are available for pre-order at Adorama and B&H Photo and Amazon by Amazon itself.
This too has been added to the list of New Cameras of 2016.
