FREE to Watch (starts 4pm ET): Leica M Typ 240 Fast Start Class World Premiere!

The second feature in today’s Leica double header at CreativeLIVE starts at 4pm eastern, the live-recording world-premiere of the Leica M Typ 240 Fast Start. It is free to watch while it is part of the CreativeLIVE On-Air schedule.

If you missed it earlier today, it is repeating at least until tomorrow 12pm ET (sometimes the reruns continue for a second day), the Leica M10 Fast Start. Both are half-day classes.

New Blog Experiment: Related Posts/Deals

A new blog-experiment is in progress! Using “Related Posts” type of plug-ins to show related deals/posts on individual blog posts. For example, here’s a Mitakon Speedmaster post with related links below it.

It is an experiment for now, since the various “Related posts” widgets don’t have a way of knowing that something expired, you can only filter by Categories and Tags, not by looking for ENDED or EXPIRED in the post text. Mayhaps to make the most of it I’d need to use a category/tag marking either the expired or the living deals [which with take a lot of time in adding Expired Tags, or a lot of time to develop related posts if I add Living Tags]

As usual, please feel free to let us know in the comments or using the contact form.

FREE to Watch (starts 12pm ET): Leica M10 Fast Start Class World Premiere! [followed by M Typ 240 Class]

Leica fans, today is your day at the CreativeLIVE On-Air. Starting at 12pm eastern today (Thursday 3/15/18) they will have the world premiere of a brand new “Fast Start” class with John Greengo, it is the Leica M10 Fast Start. The class is free to watch via streaming while it is featured at the aforelinked On-Air page. This is a LIVE recording, in Seattle, in front of a live studio audience! Look under your chairs audience, you get a red dot, you get a red dot, you get a red dot! Just the red dot, not the whole camera ^_^.

But wait there’s more! It’s a double header day. After they come back from lunch, starting at 4pm eastern they will have the live-recording world-premiere of the Leica M Typ 240 Fast Start, live-recording/streaming for free as well.

Since John Greengo has not been cloned, these are half-day classes. If you miss the original live airing, they typically replay throughout the day and night until 12pm eastern of the following day.

COMING UP IN THE NEXT FEW DAYS
+ CONTINUES: Adobe Photoshop CC Bootcamp until April 6
+ MAR-29: Flash for Dramatic Images (WORLD PREMIERE)
+ MAR-29: Flash for Beauty Images (WORLD PREMIERE)
+ MAR-30: Flash for Children/Family Images (WORLD PREMIERE)
+ APR-05: The Wedding Story (WORLD PREMIERE)
+ the above is just a sampling, see them all at the CREATIVE LIVE On-AIR Schedule

Recall: quarter million AmazonBasics PowerBanks recalled

We have a product recall alert! Amazon is recalling over a quarter million AmazonBasics PowerBanks because of a fire risk. The recall says that consumers should stop using them and return them for a FULL REFUND! The specific models affected by this are: B00LRK8EVO, B00LRK8HJ8, B00LRK8I7O, B00LRK8IV0, B00LRK8JDC, and B00ZQ4JQAA. Search for these in your orders or email confirmations of orders if you are not certain if you purchased them or not.

Already Amazon has setup a website that automates the return of the affected products. More details via Consumer Reports

Powerbanks take longer to charge, so they are more likely to be left unattended, thus increasing the risk. It’s one thing to babysit a phone charging in a couple of hours, but something that may need 5-8 hours to fully charge is likely to happen overnight or when you are away from the charging area…

8pk AmazonBasics low self-discharge for $12.20

On the AA rechargeables front, Amazon is offering an 8pk of pre-charged AmazonBasics AAs for the very specific price of $12.20. This is not a lightning deal. You can buy as many as you like. They are also available through “Subscribe and Save”. Their stated capacity is 2000 mAh with minimum 1900 mAh. They are made in Japan and can recharge up to a theoretical 1000 times.

If you are close to $25 to get free shipping, check the $5 Gadget posts for a variety of random ideas 🙂

12pk 8.5×11″ Cricut Printable Sticker Paper for $4.46

If your creative endeavors intersect with scrapbooking or at least printing on sticker paper, at the moment Amazon itself is offering 12-packs of 8.5×11″ Cricut 2002530 Printable Sticker Paper for Scrapbooking for $4.46. It is an Add-ON item, so you must place a $25+ order otherwise the shopping cart won’t let you buy it. You can however buy as many of these as you like, so you can get to $25+ with six of these.

Or you can check our previous $5 Gadget posts for other ideas on items that will help you climb over $25…

Best Price Now: 64GB Sandisk Extreme PRO UHS-I Class 10 U3 V30 SDXC for $36 with free shipping

We have a new experimental segment (please let us know if you like it or not; your feedback helps shape a lot of what we do and what we don’t do at this blog), the “Best Price Now” segment. This focuses on items that are more of the consumable kind and don’t have big discounts on a regular basis.

If you happen to want/need the 64GB Sandisk Extreme PRO Class 10 UHS-I U3 V30 SDXC memory card, the best price right now is for $36 with free shipping at Adorama.

In terms of GB/$, among this line, which ranges from 16GB to 512GB, the “winner” is the 256GB model going for the very specific price of $125.57 by Amazon itself (it looks like the price-bot price-matching got Amazon to have this price).

If you want to max out on available storage option, the 512GB card goes for $287.55 with free shipping at Adorama.

If your camera does not support UHS-II, then you can get a better bang for the buck and possibly better performance with UHS-I. Check the interwebs and forums for specific cameras + specific card combos as theoretical and real-world performance are not always walking hand in hand into the sunset 🙂
