New eBay Coupon: 20% off items priced $25+ (max discount $50)

eBay is back with another coupon promotion. Promo code P20LABORDAY gets you 20% off items individually priced $25+, with a maximum discount of $50 (in other words it flattens to $50 off after $250).

Participating retailers include Beach Camera, Anker, Overstock, and some of the regulars of the eBay Deals.

There are nearly 3000 listings under the Camera and Photo category.

As usual with these, keep in mind that a variety of sellers are participating, with products in various conditions (new, open box, refurbished, new-other, etc), along with a mix of authorized and un-authorized dealers, so do check each individual listing for details ~ do not make assumptions 🙂

Coupon expires on September 5, 2017 at 11am ET.

New Tracking Post: Labor Day 2017 Deals round-up

This is Phase #1 of our attempt to bring back a permanent “Latest Deals Summary” post. With 20+ posts per day on many weekdays, things are flying fast off the front page, making it harder for y’all to keep up if you are not checking on a regular basis. So the “Summary” posts will serve a summary of the best (subjective of course) available deals.

Phase #1 of this experiment is the Labor Day 2017 Camera Deals round-up post. It will be updated throughout the Labor Day holiday weekend. If you have any feedback on it, this is a good time to leave it as it can help shape the future “Summary” posts. You can leave a comment on any of the post or use the online contact form.

The Summaries are intended to be a compliment/complement to this blog. The latest deals will always be posted here as they happen. The Summaries are best suited for keeping track of the surviving deals that have fallen off the top of the blog.

Pre-order new Sony RX0 elementproof 1-inch RAWsumer Action Cam on 9/5/17

It’s IFA time in Berlin, which means more new tech products from all directions. Especially, in the world of photography, since this is an odd year, so there’s no Photokina [see Trade Show Calendar].

Sony had a pretty successful RX-series of RAWsumers, case in point, as you can see at the Fixed Lens Cameras Price Chart all models continue to be available in new condition at authorized dealers!

So it should not be a surprise that Sony would decide to further expand the RX-series.

Which brings us to the new brand new RX0, an ultra-compact elementproof camera but with a 1-inch 21mp sensor, and a 24mm f4 Zeiss-blessed lens, RAW of course (it wouldn’t be an RX-series without RAW!), and various tempting video features. And an RX-series starting price of $700.

In new-typical Sony fashion, pre-orders are not accepted right away. It will be available for pre-ordering on September 5, 2017.

But there are detailed pages for it at B&H Photo and Adorama.

This has been added to the New Cameras of 2017 tracking page, making it the fifth RAWsumer to be introduced in 2017. Try to guess the other four before looking. But we don’t have fabulous prizes if you guess right 🙂

FREE (iOS): 8mm Vintage Camera app by Nexvio

Free camera app for iOS users! The 8mm Vintage Camera app by Nexvio is currently FREE to get on iTunes. Previously it went for $2. Some features however are only available via in-app purchase (99c themes). This requires iOS 8.0 and later.

If you have an older device or don’t have an iOS device now, but you may be getting one in the future, you can still grab the app for future use. You obviously can’t get it from a non-existent iOS device, but you can grab it using iTunes for Windows ~ if you are willing to run that Beast 🙂

Imported Sony a6300 w/16-50mm for $830

The Sony a6300 with 16-50mm goes for $1000 in new condition at authorized Sony USA dealers who are bundling it with various free accessories such as Adorama and B&H Photo.

But if you are comfortable with new condition imported grey-market cameras with a 1-year seller warranty (instead of a Sony USA warranty), then off to the eBay Deals we go, where you can get the camera as mentioned in this paragraph for $830 with free shipping by 6ave’s eBay store (New Jersey, 98.9%).

For a refresher on mirrorless prices, check the July 2017 edition of the Mirrorless Price Charts.

PS: if you are eligible for this offer, don’t forget to first activate the 8% eBay Bucks promotion. This would be a serious rewards amount, that’s around $66 to spend in the future on eBay (through the eBay Bucks rewards program).

Pre-order new Canon M100 mirrorless camera

Canon is back with their renewed interest in their mirrorless system. They have a new camera, the M100, that will be available in two options. For $600, with the 15-45mm kit lens, and for $950 with the 15-45 and the 55-200 lenses. They are available in black or white and pre-ordering is available at B&H Photo and Aamzon itself and Adorama.

With this announcement, mirrorless cameras “scored an equalizer”, making the score 8 vs 8 in DSLR vs Mirrorless among the New Cameras of 2017.

Pre-order new Canon MT-26EX-RT Macro Twin Lite

Of Canon lighting interest, they have revealed a brand new Canon MT-26EX-RT Macro Twin Lite with a starting price of $989 and a mid-November 2017 release estimate. Pre-orders are accepted at B&H Photo and Amazon itself and Adorama.

Despite that estimate, there are a couple of listings at Amazon by Beach Camera that say this is in-stock and shipping in a few days. They have the same price and include some free accessories, one bundle with a 128GB Sandisk Extreme PRO SDXC, and another bundle with a Tripod, Kodak Flash and more. This also shows as in-stock at Beach Camera’s own website, but not at their Buydig online-centric website.

I have no way of verifying whether it is indeed in-stock there, so YMMV…

You can watch it at Adorama and B&H Photo. The stream is using Livestream technology which may require Adobe Flash.

For pre-ordering options, check the Stock Tracker.

Refurbished Nikon 50mm f1.8D for $100

It is good to have choices. Especially when it comes to normal prime lenses 🙂 There is a cascade of three options for the good old Nikon 50mm f1.8D lens depending on condition and warranty situation:

+ manufacturer refurbished for $100 with free shipping at Adorama with a 90-day Nikon USA warranty

+ new condition imported grey-market with filter kit, and accessoro-trinkets for $112 by eBay seller “PhotoVideo 4 Less” without warranty
+ if buying on eBay and if eligible, don’t forget to first activate the 8% eBay Bucks offer

+ new condition with Nikon USA warranty with 52mm UV filter and accessoro-trinkets and 2% promotional rewards for $132 at Adorama

Speaking of Adorama, here is the latest situation in their Nikon manufacturer refurbished gear:
+ recently added refurbished Nikon gear

+ all refurbished Nikon gear

YMMV: 8% back in eBay Bucks on $50+ items

Jump in the Bay of Fees 🙂 This is YMMV ~ I do not know if eBay offers this to everyone or a subset of their registered users. Good until Thursday 3am eastern (8/31/17), you earn 8% eBay Bucks on your purchases of individual items priced at $50 or more.

First you have to manually activate the offer from the eBay email or your eBay messages (if invited/selected to participate). Some exclusions apply as usual and the maximum rewards you can earn is $100 per transaction, and $500 during the promotional period. The email title announcing this promotion is not as clear as previous ones, but it has “eBay Bucks” in it, so look for that if you are skimming or filtering eBay emails.

A good place to look for ideas are the eBay Deals along with the Trending Deals (shows only 100 trending deals, less overwhelming to look at than their main deals page). There’s also a dedicated search box there that searches only the Deals, not everything else on eBay.

Another way to look for ideas is our eBay Category posts.

Refurbished Nikon D810 body for $2199

The new Nikon D850 is coming later this year for $3300 [see Stock Tracker for options]. The existing Nikon D810 goes for $2800 in new condition at authorize dealers…

… but if you prefer to get it refurbished from an A-list dealer, you can get it refurbished at B&H Photo for $2199 with free shipping with a 90-day warranty (I think the warranty is from B&H, not Nikon).

Strategically, it’s not a bad idea, if you are going for the previous generation model, to get it refurbished or used, when the price difference between the new condition models is closer. Of course this is all relative, and one’s individual preferences and priorities vary, so there’s no one size fits all type of answer.
