Amazon reduces Free Shipping minimum from $49 to $35 for non-Prime members

As the Amazon World Turns! At the moment when you surf around Amazon product pages without being logged on to a Prime Amazon account, you will notice that the free shipping minimum has changed again. Instead of $49+, you only need $35+ in products sold and shipped by Amazon, and/or sold by 3rd-party sellers but fulfilled by Amazon’s facilities. The $25+ book option also remains in place. I am not sure yet whether this is a temporarily experiment or permanent. It is possible that Amazon is price-matching the Walmart-Jet $35 minimum.

For example, here’s a random $40 item that shows free shipping for non-Prime members.

This feels like the old days. It’s raining sales left and right! As part of the Monoprice Camera Clearance, the new condition Canon D-Rebel T5i with 18-55 IS STM is on sale for $400 with free standard US shipping. Limit one unit per customer. The T5i was one of the influential-affordable APS-C DSLRs back in the earlier days. Canon has released many and more APS-C DSLRs since including the brand new D-Rebel T7i that is coming out in the next few weeks. The T7i with 18-55 goes for $900.

Sony a6300 with 16-50 and 55-210 for $1200

Another option in the E-system a6XXX-series, the Sony a6300 with 16-50 and 55-210 kit is currently on sale for $1196 with free expedited shipping at B&H Photo and by Beach upon Amazon (Prime shipping speed but ships directly from Beach Camera). To detect this benefit, you have to be logged as a Prime member, and pay attention to the highlighted areas of the screenshot below:

Note also that the a6500 two-lens kit with the same lenses will be discounted to $1700 on Sunday. The usual price trade-offs of latest versus not-latest model.

The Sony 55-210mm lens goes for $350 on its own but it is combined-purchase discounted when it is bundled with camera kits or bundles.

Sony a6500 with 55-210mm OSS for $1546 (on sale NOW)

Two Sony a6500 kits discounts will go live on Sunday but one of them has already gone live, it’s a non-standard kit, the Sony a6500 with 55-210mm (f4.5-6.3 OSS E, black) is currently on sale for $1546 with free shipping at B&H Photo. The sale continues until March 4 in 2017, so you can wait until Sunday if you are not certain which one of these kits to get.

TL;DR: the a6500 with 55-210 is on sale NOW, while the other two kits (16-50 or 16-50 & 55-210) will go on sale on Sunday.

Heads Up: Starting Sunday: Sony a6500 kit discounts

This is a Heads Up alert! Starting on Sunday 2/19/17, the following two Sony a6500 kits will be discounted at B&H Photo as follows:

+ a6500 with 16-50mm will drop from $1700 to $1546
+ a6500 with 16-50mm and 55-210mm will drop from $2044 to $1696
+ the above prices will go live on Sunday 2/19/17

For reference, the a6500 body only currently goes for $1400. I do not know if that will be discounted.

If you are interested in either of these kits, you may want to wait until Sunday. However, another non-standard kit with the 55-210 has already gone live. That one in the post above this!

As of a 2/19/17 recheck, this is sold out… Used supplies are limited…

To add to the option-overwhelm, the Sony a6300 with the 16-50mm is available in “Used – Condition 9” at B&H Photo for $930 with free shipping.

Used items at B&H come with a 90-day warranty from B&H. Given that B&H is a well-known and reputable dealer, this is a lower risk used purchase than buying from cookie-cutter eBay refurbishers and such.

Note also that many of the new condition a6X00 kits are on sale now and a couple of a6500 kits will go on sale this weekend – check the Sony E-System posts to see them all.
