Sony Vario-Tessar T* FE 16-35 F4 ZA OSS with $100 Gift Card for $1250 [or $1000 Grey Market]

Choices are nice to have! If you are interested in the Sony Vario-Tessar T* FE 16-35 F4 ZA OSS lens, aka the SEL1635Z, there are two offers running, one authorized USA dealer, one imported at a lower price with a seller’s warranty.

The authorized dealer promotion is the lens for $1250 with a $100 Adorama Gift Certificate included at Adorama.

On the other hand, if you are comfortable with imported grey-market lenses that are covered by a seller’s warranty (instead of a Sony USA warranty), to the eBay Deals we go, where frequent grey-market eBay seller Get It Digital (99.4%) is offering the new condition imported grey-market lens for $1000 with a 1-year warranty from the seller.

Speaking of eBay, the main deal there is a blockbuster doorbuster by Target’s eBay store, the Star Wars: The Force Awakens BluRay Set (BluRay and DVD and Digital HD copy) for $17 with free shipping and free returns, with a limit of three per Jedi. Fans of the Dark Side will just create more eBay accounts and get more 😉

Imported Canon 6D body only for $999 [no warranty]

Back to the eBay Deals, if you are comfortable with imported grey-market DSLRs without a warranty, the Get It Digital eBay store is offering the new condition grey-market imported Canon 6D body only for $999 with free shipping, with a limit of five per buyer. Over 2000 units got sold from this listing per the eBay listing stats.

If you prefer Canon USA warranty models and do not object to mail-in rebates and prepaid gift cards, there is a nice WPPI bundle at B&H for $1150 after coupon and mail-in rebate that includes the Pixma PRO 10 printer and 13×19 paper and 1-year of Creative Cloud Photography Plan (this expires 3/10/16).

Imported No-Warranty Canon 18-135mm IS STM for $229

Back to the eBay Deals, for the more adventurous shoppers, there is a white-box imported grey-market lens without any warranty, it is offered by Get It Digital’s eBay store (99.6%). Ooops, the lens, the lens is the new condition Canon 18-135mm f3.5-5.6 IS STM going for $229 with free shipping with a limit of five per customer.

White box usually means it was part of a kit, but sold separately. If I put on my Miss Maple hat, this is probably how it came to be: they import Canon APS-C DSLRs with 18-135mm kits. Then they remove the lenses from the DSLR boxes, and sell the DSLRs as body-onlies on their own (“onlies” is plural of “only”), and the Lenses on their own.

So that’s why the price is so much lower, it’s an imported item without a warranty. Over 1300 units got sold so far, so there are a lot of people willing to take the risk, but again, don’t decide based on price alone. If the thought of potential future problems with lenses without warranty keeps you up at night, mayhaps it’s not worth the extra stress. We blog, you decide!

Imported Grey Market Canon 5DS Body Only with 1-Year Seller Warranty for $2400

A full frame trip to the eBay Deals brings us (or takes us) to eBay seller Get It Digital (99.6%) offering a new condition imported grey-market Canon 5DS Body Only for $2400 with free shipping and a 1-year warranty from the seller Get It Digital (not from Canon USA). Limit five per customer during this promotion.

At authorized Canon USA dealers, the 5DS body only goes for $3700 with a variety of free accessories. There are many bundles at Adorama including one that bundles Lightroom 6. Also offering free accessories is B&H Photo and Amazon itself.

Imported Nikon D750 body only for $1465

If you are comfortable with imported grey market DSLRs, among the many eBay Deals bubbling around, eBay seller GetItDigital (99.6%) offers the imported (grey market) Nikon D750 body only for $1465 with free shipping, with a limit of three per buyer. This does not come with a Nikon USA warranty. It is unclear from the listing whether GetItDigital offers their own 1-year warranty (typically they say so in “Item Specifics” but there’s no mention of it in this particular listing).

At authorized dealers, this goes for $2000, with a variety of free accessories and/or up to 4% rewards (=$80~) offered by Adorama (options include free $250 Audio Technica camera-mount microphone or Corel Software bundle) and B&H Photo ($80~ rewards & accessories) and Amazon itself (free accessories or free AT microphone).

UPDATE:: Speaking of eBay, their current spotlight offer is an HDMI cable for $2 (3 feet) or $3 (15 feet) with free shipping. Limit 50 per customer. This ships from Brooklyn (New York) from eBay seller “BuySuperDeal” (99.5%). Over 5400 HDMI cables got sold through this listing so far. The other sizes sold out.

Imported Canon D-Rebel T6i w/18-55 IS STM w/1yr seller warranty for $600

To the Land of the Many Bays we return (I mean eBay), where GetItDigital is back with another new condition imported grey-market camera offering. It is the Canon D-Rebel T6i with 18-55 IS STM offered for $600 with free shipping with a one year warranty from GetItDigital (not Canon USA). Limit five per buyer during this time.

At authorized dealers, this kit goes for $750, but you can also get a variety of extra free accessories and promotional rewards such as Adorama (includes Corel imaging software bundle) and B&H Photo and Amazon.

Another option if buying from authorized dealers, $800 gets you the Video Creator Kit which includes the T6i with 18-55 IS STM but also a Rodeo VideoMic microphone and a 32GB Sandisk SD card, and free accessories from various retailers such as Amazon itself and Adorama (includes Corel imaging software bundle) and B&H Photo.

Yet another option from authorized dealers, but this one is more involved, is you can get the T6i with 18-55 IS STM, and Pixma Pro 100 printer and 50pk 13×19″ Canon photo paper and extras for $650 after a $350 mail-in rebate (prepaid American Express Gift Card) at B&H Photo and Adorama.

If you are going the Pixma-MIR route, you can get the same promotion but with the 18-135mm IS STM lens (instead of the 18-55) for $150 more, $800 after a $350 MIR (prepaid AMEX GC) at Adorama and B&H Photo.

Imported Nikon D810 body only for $2220

The Nikon D810 body only currently goes for $2800 at authorized dealers which are allowed by Nikon to include a variety of free extra accessories and promotional rewards (eg Adorama and B&H Photo and Amazon).

But if you are comfortable with grey-market imported camera gear that comes with a 1-year warranty from the seller (not Nikon USA), then among the offers bubbling around the eBay Deals is the new condition imported grey-marked Nikon D810 body only offered for $2220 with free shipping and a 1-year warranty from the seller “Get It Digital” (99.5%), not Nikon USA. Limit three per customer. Nearly 1000 units got sold from this listing so far according to the page over there.

As usual with situations like this, it is up to you to decide where you draw the line on risk vs price vs other related trade-offs.

Nikon 35mm f1.8G DX: $170 refurbished OR imported/grey-market

We mentioned a few budget Nikon primes offered as grey-market/imported last week, but I forgot to mention the 35mm f1.8G DX lens. It is available in new condition but imported/grey-market with no warranty mentioned in the eBay listing for $170 with free shipping by eBay seller PhotoVideo4Less on eBay. Over 1600 units have been sold so far from this eBay listing. Of those, I don’t know how many understood the warranty trade-offs…

Alternately, also paying $170 with free shipping, you can get this lens manufacturer refurbished with a 90 day Nikon USA warranty from Adorama.

In new condition, this lens goes for $200 at authorized Nikon dealers, eg Amazon or B&H Photo (4% rewards) or Adorama (free UV filter and 2% rewards).

Imported Nikon 50mm f1.8D for $99 w/free S&H

The action continues when you scroll further down the eBay Deals (it can take half a day to go through them all). If you are going to take a chance on an imported grey-market lens, a simple prime lens with a double figure price is about as low of a risk one can take. Which brings us to the imported grey-market new-condition Nikon 50mm f1.8D Lens offered for $99 with free shipping by eBay seller “Peach Photo” (99.8%), with a limit of 50 per customer. Perfect quantity limit if you are planning to have an Oprah moment at your office or living room, “Look under your chairs, you get a 50, you get a 50, and you get a 50, and you get a 50!”

Speaking of Nikon primes, also imported grey-market new-condition, it is the Nikon 50mm f1.8G with a UV filter and cleaning kit going for $174 with free shipping by eBay seller “6ave” (98.8%) with a limit of 50 per customer. It comes with a one-year warranty from Six Avenue, not from Nikon USA.

Since we are talking low priced Nikon imports, the grey market new condition Nikon SB-300 Flash is offered for $120 with free shipping with a limit of three per customer by eBay seller Peach Photo.

Imported Canon 70D body only for $650

More eBay Deals action, we return to the Get It Digital eBay store with an imported grey-marked DSLR that was part of a Kit With Lens but was separated from the lens and sold separately. This time it is the new condition Canon 70D body only going for $650 with free shipping with a limit five per customer. There is no mention of warranty in the listing.

At authorized Canon USA dealers, the 70D body only kit goes for $1000, but it includes various free accessories and promotional rewards at some retailers such as B&H Photo and Adorama.

Another option, somewhere in-between, you can get it in open-box condition with a 1-year Canon USA warranty for $800 at Adorama.

Imported Canon 6D Body for $1000

To the Trending eBay Deals we go, where eBay seller “GetItDigital” (99.5%) is offering the imported grey-marked new-condition Canon 6D body only for $1000 with free shipping, with a limit of five per customer.

Based on the eBay listing, this does not specify whether it comes with seller’s warranty. It definitely does not come with a Canon USA warranty. This camera was part of a Canon 6D with Lens kit, but they are selling the camera and the lens separately to “share” the kit discount with the customers 🙂

In new condition from authorized Canon USA dealers, the 6D body only kit goes for $1400 but it also comes with a variety of free accessories and promotional rewards at B&H Photo and Adorama.

Yet another option (if you have no use/need for the extra accessories) is open-box condition of the Canon USA version with a 1-year Canon USA warranty going for $1270 at Adorama.

Amazon starts tagging International Versions of products

Amazon, like eBay and Rakuten and others, is an open marketplace, and such it has more risks since literally anyone can sell items on their website. Unlike closed marketplaces where the retailer is the only one offering an item. I’ve been saying for many years that Amazon and eBay have not done enough to help consumers make informed decisions. Partly perhaps because it’s very hard to measure sales that don’t happen versus sales that actually happen. So if something cannot be measured, it can often be prioritized much lower than tangible.

Regardless, to cut a long story short, Amazon has began tagging “International Versions” of products. Here is an example of the Nikon Coolpix L340 and another example of a bundled kit of the same item. An annotated screenshot shot of the tag is right below:

international_versions_At_amazon

This is definitely a step in the right direction, however, one should not make additional assumptions. This does not mean that items without the tag are all USA warranty items. It only means that items with the tag are International Versions. On the main USA-version page of an item, you can still have a mix of new, imported, refurbished and used by Amazon itself, featured sellers, and everybody else on the internet with an Amazon seller account. Amazon itself is an authorized dealers for almost all the items they sell. And there is a number of well-known third-party sellers there that are authorized dealers (Adorama, Huppins/OneCall, etc). So you still have to pay attention to the actual seller, and if it’s not a familiar or well-known seller, it is very prudent to still research them to your satisfaction.

Another distinction that may not be obvious to those who rarely shop at Amazon is that “fulfilled by Amazon” is eligible for Prime shipping and you get Amazon Customer Support, however, for warranty purposes, it does not “transfer” authorized dealer status. “Fulfilled by Amazon” simply means that a seller sent a box of things to an Amazon Warehouse and when you buy those items, they get processed from the Amazon Warehouse, instead of the seller’s facilities. A manufacturer can still decline warranty service if that particular seller is not authorized.

More commentary on these matters by S.W. Anderson in the Comments section of a previous imported item post.

Canon 18-135mm f3.5-5.6 IS STM for $229 (white box/grey)

Also part of the featured eBay Deals, the GetItDigital (99.5%) eBay store is offering the new condition white box Canon 18-135mm f3.5-5.6 IS STM for $229 with free shipping with a limit of five per customer. There is no mention of warranty in the listing, but it says it is a “white box” lens with all accessories included. Assume this is an imported/grey-market since it doesn’t specify, and does not have a UPC (since it was probably separated from a DSLR kit). Nearly 1200 units got sold as of the time of writing.

White Box Canon 24-105 f4L IS USM for $606 (Grey/Imp)

The Canon 24-105 f4L IS USM lens is bundled with some of the more advanced Canon DSLR kits. Some enterprising retailers are taking advantage of the kit bundle discounts and they sell the camera and the lens separately, partially passing some of the savings to the lens buyers. Once such case is found in the eBay Deals where eBay seller “Get It Digital” (99.5%) is offering the white-box (does not come in outer retail packaging) Canon 24-105 f4L IS USM lens for $606 with free shipping, with a limit of 3 per customer. Over 1400 lenses got sold so far from this listing per the eBay statistics over there.

NOTE: the eBay listing has no mention of a warranty. It does not state whether the lens was split from a USA warranty kit, or if it was split from an Imported kit. To be on the safe side, assume this is an imported grey-market item. They would have probably charged more if it was a USA warranty lens.

The lens on its own in retail packaging with Canon USA warranty goes for $1000 at authorized Canon dealers (eg Adorama with boatload of free accessories). A white box option (again with no specifics on warranty) goes for $610 by AudioDealz fulfilled by Amazon (with six free lens-related accessories).

Imported Nikon D810 body only for $2000 (limit 1)

The Nikon D810 body only currently goes for $2800 in new condition at authorized Nikon USA dealers, but if you want to optimize for a lower price, and you are comfortable with imported grey-market camera gear, you can get it for $2000 with a free 1-year warranty from the seller GetItDigital on eBay (99.7%). Limit ONE per buyer. TL/DR: This does NOT have a Nikon USA warranty… UPDATED to remove reference to the expired Adobe Nikon bundles…

Imported Sigma SD1 Merrill with 17-50 mm f2.8 EX DC OS for $1241

If you are comfortable with imported grey-market camera gear and at the same time you like the convenience of Prime shipping and Amazon Customer Support, Amazon seller “AKIBA JAPAN” is offering the Sigma SD1 Merrill DSLR with the 17-50 mm F2.8 EX DC OS lens for $1241 with free shipping. This is fulfilled by Amazon, so it ships from an Amazon USA warehouse. In other words, they shipped a box of cameras from Japan to Amazon USA storage facilities. If you are a Prime member, you get free 2-day shipping.

NOTE: this is a Japanese model. There are two reviews with three comments on them over there with a few details on this particular option. If any of the above make you uncomfortable, do not buy!

Imported Canon 55-250mm f4-5.6 IS II for $150

On the other hand, if you are comfortable with imported-grey-market lenses, B&H Photo is offering a white-box imported Canon EF-S 55-250mm f4-5.6 IS II for $150 with free expedited shipping and a one year warranty from B&H Photo.

Imported Nikon D810 body only for $2100

If you are comfortable with imported (grey market, non-NikonUSA warranty) camera gear, eBay Deals have a temptation for you. Seller “GetItDigital” (99.7%) is offering the new condition Nikon D810 Body Only for $2100 with free shipping, with a limit of five per customer. Over 610 units got sold so far from this listing. You get a 1-year warranty from the seller GetItDigital, not from Nikon USA!

In comparison, at authorized Nikon dealers, the D810 body only goes for $2800 with a boatload of accessories at B&H Photo and Adorama and Amazon (no free accessories at the moment).

Imported Canon 5D Mark III body for $1900

And we are finally back, and back to the eBay Deals where the GetItDigital eBay store (99.7%) is offering the imported grey-market new condition Canon 5D Mark III body only for $1900 with free shipping with a one year warranty provided by GetItDigital (not Canon USA). Limit five per customer.

At authorized Canon USA dealers, in new condition, this goes for $2500, along with a variety of free accessories and extras and promotional rewards, such as B&H Photo and Adorama (multiple bundles with different freebies) and Focus Camera and Amazon itself.

Somewhere in the middle between the two price-wise is an open-box version for $2250 at Adorama (no freebies but retains the one year Canon USA warranty).

Imported Canon 1D X drops to $3900

Back to the eBay Deals we fly. The last time we mentioned the imported grey-market Canon 1D X it was going for $4000. Right now it has dropped to $3900 offered by Get It On Digital (99.7%). Free shipping, one year warranty from Get It Digital (not Canon), limit five per customer.

But the price has also dropped at authorized dealers since then, it goes for $4600. At B&H Photo you get three free accessories (32GB Extreme Pro CF, bag, remote) and 2% promotional rewards (= $92~). You also get 2% rewards at Adorama with two free extra Canon batteries and a 128GB Lexar Professional 1066x CompactFlash card. At Amazon, no rewards and no accessories but you get 1 Year of Unlimited Everything Cloud storage.

Imported Sony RX100 (first gen) for $320

Not only we forgot about Dre, we also forgot about the eBay Deals where we have an imported grey-market new condition camera. If of all the 1-inch compacts with RAW it is the first generation Sony RX100 the one you want, you can get it for $320 with free shipping, with a limit of five per customer from eBay seller Electronics Valley (99.1%).

Imported Sony FE 70-200mm f4 G OSS for $1180

This is not a dejavu, this is the third Sony E-mount lens that is offered in grey-market imported condition by Get It Digital (99.7%) as part of the eBay Deals. It is the new condition grey-market with a three year warranty provided by GetItDigital (not Sony) Sony FE 70-200mm f4 G OSS (model SEL70200G) offered for $1180 with free shipping with a limit of five per customer.

At authorized Sony retailers, such as Adorama and B&H Photo and Amazon this goes for $1400.

Imported Nikon 18-140mm f3.5-5.6G DX VR for $250

The new condition price of the Nikon 18-140mm f3.5-5.6G DX VR at authorized Nikon USA dealers of $500 is out of touch with reality – partly because this lens is bundled with select DSLR kits, and the prices want to nudge buyers towards the kits. Regardless, if you are comfortable with imported grey-market camera gear without a Nikon USA warranty…

… among the latest eBay Deals you can get the new condition grey-market imported Nikon 18-140mm f3.5-5.6G DX VR for $250 with free shipping with a limit of five per buyer from eBay seller “Peach Photo” (99.9%).

Imported Canon 5DS for $2700 or 5DS R for $3350

After our little “coffee lens break”, we are back at the eBay Deals with one more imported grey-market promotion, also from eBay seller “Get It Digital” (99.7%). They are offering both of the new new-condition imported grey-market Canon 5D S body only cameras on the same listing. The 5DS goes for $2700, while the 5DS R goes for $3350. You have to select under “Model”, below the listing title. Limit five per buyer. They do not come with a Canon USA warranty, but the eBay seller “Get It Digital” provides their own one year warranty to parallel the benefits.

The 5DS body only, at authorized Canon USA dealers, currently goes for $3700 with various freebies depending on each retailer, such Amazon (free Audio-Technica AT8024 camera-mount mic) or Adorama (2% rewards = $74~) or B&H Photo (2% rewards = $74~).

The 5DS R body only, at authorized Canon USA dealers, currently goes for $3900 with various freebies depending on each retailer, such Amazon (free Audio-Technica AT8024 camera-mount mic) or Adorama (2% rewards = $78~) or B&H Photo (2% rewards = $78~).

The products from the authorized dealers are eligible for the various Canon USA mail-in rebate promotions, while the imported items are not.

Imported Sony Zeiss 55m f1.8 FE Sonnar T* for $740

The grey market (imported cameras without manufacturer’s USA warranty) party continues at the eBay Deals, this time it is Get It Digital (99.7%) offering the new condition imported grey-market Sony Zeiss 55m f1.8 FE Sonnar T* lens for the E-mount offered for $740 with free shipping with a limit of five per customer. It comes with a three year warranty from Get It Digital, not Sony USA. Over 500 units sold so far from this eBay listing.

The warranty is described in the eBay listing as:

sony_zeiss_55_warranty

At authorized USA dealers, in new condition, this lens goes for $900, at well-respected retailers such as Adorama (lots of free lens accessories) and B&H Photo and Amazonia.

PS: if you are having a bit of a deja vu, it’s because last week we also mentioned a different grey-market imported Sony-Zeiss lens, the Sony T* E 16-70 F4 ZA OSS lens (aka SEL1670Z) which went (and still goes) for $700, also from Get It Digital.

Imported Nikon 50mm f1.8G for $184

Back to the eBay Deals with another grey-market imported prime. This time it is the Nikon 50mm f1.8G SLR lens offered for $184 with free shipping by eBay seller “Peach Photo” (99.9%). Limit five per customer.

At authorized dealers, this lens goes for $220 with free lens accessories at places such as Beach Camera upon Amazon and Adorama and B&H Photo. The last two also offer 2% promotional rewards (= $4.xx)

Imported Canon 50mm f1.8 II SLR lens for $90

To the eBay Deals we go with a rare occurrence, a prime lens under $100. It is new condition, but it is imported (grey market). However, a basic 50mm f1.8 prime lens is a much lower risk than $5000 tilt-shift walking-on-eggshells lens, so it’s up to you to enter your risk matrix and reach a decision.

Mumbling aside, this is a new condition imported grey-market Canon 50mm f1.8 II SLR lens offered for $90 with free shipping with a limit of five per buyer by eBay seller “Red Tag Camera” (99.9%). Over 2400 units have been sold so far from this listing.

At authorized dealers, this lens goes for $125, such as Amazon and B&H Photo where the imported goes for $110.

Imported grey-market Nikon D810 body only for $2100

And now some imported grey-market action at the eBay Deals… According to the listing subtitle there, this offer expires by 8/31/15… it is the new condition imported grey-market Nikon D810 body only offered for $2100 with free shipping by eBay seller “Get It Digital” with a limit of five per customer…

This comes with a 1yr warranty from the seller, not Nikon USA… The eBay listing says:

“Direct Import Item 1yr US Warranty via Seller
Warranty Provider: Trained Professionals at Authorized Repair Center”

In comparison, at authorized Nikon dealers, the D810 body only goes for $3000 with various free accessories included at B&H Photo and Adorama and Amazon.

Imported (grey market) Nikon D4S body only for $4000

More eBay action, this time of the imported grey-market variety, without a Nikon USA warranty but with a seller one year warranty. eBay seller Get It Digital (99.7%) is offering the new condition grey-market imported Nikon D4S body only for $4000 with free shipping with a limit of five per customer. It does not come with a Nikon USA warranty instead the seller provides a one year warranty (parallel in features to the manufacturer warranty), with the “Item Specifics” on the eBay listing saying: “Trained Professionals at Authorized Repair Center”.

If you are not comfortable with imported grey-market items, you can get it manufacturer refurbished with a 90 day Nikon USA warranty for $5000 at Adorama.

The new condition price, at authorized Nikon dealers is $6000 with some offering free accessories, such as B&H Photo (32GB Extreme, extra battery, shutter release, shoulder bag) and Adorama (2% rewards and extra accessories or free Audio-Technica AT8024 camera-mount mic) or Amazon (64GB Lexar, camera bag). One benefit of buying new-condition from an authorized dealer is that you can take advantage of the Combined Purchase DSLR-Lenses promotions.

Imported Sony T* E 16-70 F4 ZA OSS lens for $700

One of the further-down-the-page eBay Deals is the new condition imported grey-market Sony T* E 16-70 F4 ZA OSS lens (aka SEL1670Z) offered for $700 with free shipping and a three year warranty from the seller GetItDigital (99.7%) with a limit of five per customer. This does not come with a Sony USA warranty. Offer ends by 8/24/15.

This lens goes for $900 at authorized Sony retailers such as B&H Photo (4% rewards = $36~) and Amazon and Adorama (six free accessories).
