Pre-order the new Apple Silicon M1 computers (ship next week)
And they are finally here! The all new Apple Silicon Mac computers. And they revealed a trio of them yesterday. No more profit-leakage to Intel. Apple keeps it all, and that’s why the prices are kept reasonable despite the big performance gains that were made in the Apple presentation…
The new M1 chip has 8 cores (four fast, four efficient), (up to) 8 GPU cores, 16 Neural cores, up to 16GB RAM, up to 2TB storage, better battery life, better security and on and on and on…
During this transition period, Apple is launching “Universal” apps, a name that didn’t go so well for Windows. Universal apps will have the binary code for both the Apple M1 apps and Intel apps in a single executable to make it easier for end-users. Non-M1 apps will use Apple’s Rosetta II emulator, which Apple claims can run faster than the original Intel Apples.
Of photography interest, Lightroom’s universal app is coming next month, while Photoshop’s universal binary is expected in 2021…
Speaking of apps, these M1 Macs can also run iOS (iPhone and iPad) apps out of the box since they are using similar underlying infrastructure…
And these are now available for pre-ordering in various configurations at B&H Photo with shipment expected to happen next week, which is when the new Mac OS “Big Sur” is expected to rollout…
+ Apple MacMinis starting at $699
+ Apple MacBook Airs starting at $999 ($899 for education)
+ 13.3″ MacBook PRO starting at $1299 ($1199 for education)
If you have 50 minutes to spare, you can watch the whole socially-distanced Apple presentation recorded at “The UFO” in Cupertino::California:
Not everyone is on the hype train though, Linus of “Linus Tech Tips” has a handful of objections…

Singles Day 2020 is Here at Chinese Retailers
Singles Day 2020 is here, November 11, and with it there’s plenty of sales in-progress at Chinese websites (that ship world-wide and have English versions of their websites) including:
+ GearBest, the one I placed most orders with, and has a more organized, less chaotic website
+ Top Tech Feast sale; just not a “Feast for Crows” 🙂
+ $5 off an $80+ PayPal order
+ Alibaba
+ Alibaba’s more western-facing AliExpress
+ that red thing with white inside you may see in product listing search-results, that’s 11 11 written in white on a red background, noting that a product is participating in 11-11 sales; it took me a few minutes to realize I must admit 🙂
+ DH Gate
+ Bang Good, it is indeed a retail website, do not let the name scare you 😉
+ Geek Buying because the geeks will not only inherit the earth but will also buy it 😉
+ Deal Extreme (as of the time of writing it appears to be down per Cloudfare)
+ if you have any other favorites that you found good deals, please feel free to post them in the comments or use the online contact form
As usual, a number of the websites have “lightning type of deals”, and those require some luck because the world market for these websites is decidedly over 1 billion shoppers…
PS: since the names are so close, let’s also make Singles Day a Shingles Awareness Day!
PS2: since the names are exactly the same, we must needs also make today a 45rpm Singles Day appreciation day! The good old and new days of vinyl!

Refurb Nikon Z50 Two Lens Kit for $947 (Z 16-50, Z 50-250)
Today became an impromptu Nikon Z50 Day 🙂 We start, in reverse chronological order blog-style with the refurbished Nikon Z50 two lens kit (Z 16-50 DX VR and Z 50-250 DX VR) going for $947 at Adorama’s store with a 90-day Nikon USA warranty… This is $250 less than the new condition kits…
BUT the refurbished kits are not eligible for the Nikon-blessed promotion for the new condition kits that you can add the Nikon FTZ mount adapter (Nikon F lenses to Z bodies) to a Z50 kit for just +$47 more…
Of course it is also likely/possible that someone interested in a two-lens DX kit, may not be interested right away in adapters…
Refurbished Nikon Z50 body w/90DW for $749
We previously mentioned the Nikon Z50 2-lens kit offer for $1100, BUT if you are not interested in the basic zoom kit lenses, and you want a lower entry-price into the Nikon Z system, B&H Photo is offering the refurbished Z50 body only for $749 with free US shipping and a 90-day Nikon USA warranty…
HOWEVER, the refurbished version is not eligible for the Nikon-blessed offer of adding the Nikon FTZ mount adapter (Nikon F lenses to Nikon Z bodies) for just +$47 with new condition Z50 kits. So if you have no way of procuring an adapter for less then mayhaps you are better off going with the new condition kits…
… and given the prices of the new condition kits, the Z50 body only goes for $857 while the Z50 with 16-50mm goes for $897 (+$40 for the 16-50 lens which you can resell/trade/etc), you may be better off with the latter. With these kits, for +$47 you can add the Nikon FTZ adapter. That too you can resell/trade/etc if you don’t plan on using…
The above links are at B&H Photo, but you can find similar bundles at Adorama’s listings…
… but we are not done with the Z50, there’s one more post, and I promise that’s it with the Z50 for today 🙂
Fotopro Camera Bags for $30 and Tripod/Monopod sale too
It’s all Fotopro branded products at the latest Adorama daily deals (changes Monday 10am ET), and it’s a bit of a West Side Story, TRIPODS vs CAMERA BAGS! That’s right, there’s two of each on sale 🙂

+ Fotopro AK-64K iSpeedy monopod for $90
+ Fotopro Trekker backpack for $30
+ Fotopro Vespa Messenger for $30
+ Vespa motorcycle NOT included ~ unless you put a Matchbox/HotWheels version of it inside yourself 😉
Sunday: Best Buy’s Nikon Z50 2-Lens Kit matched with different accessories elsewhere
The headliner of the Sunday 11/1/20 Best Buy daily deals is a Nikon Z50 two lens kit with a freebie for $1100. The two lenses are the Z 16-50mm f3.5-6.3 DX VR and the Z 50-250mm f4.5-6.3 DX VR. Thankfully Nikon gave them slightly different focal lengths from their parallel DSLR models.
The freebie is the Sunpak 12″ Bi-Color Tabletop Vlogging Kit which has a Best Buy valued price of $50 and includes a 12″ USB-powered bi-color ring-light, a flexible smartphone mount, a mini ball head (up to 4.5 lbs, aka ~2 kilos) and a bluetooth remote for iOS/Android…
BUT the $1100 price is also available at other authorized Nikon retailers with a different set of freebies…
At Adorama’s listings the freebies include a 32GB Sandisk Extreme PRO SDHC, Slinger shoulder bag, a filter kit for each lens (46mm and 62mm), card wallet, cleaning kit, and a Corel software kit in your choice of PC or Mac that includes seven titles…
Optionally, you can click on the “Special Offer” bundle and add the Nikon FTZ mount adapter (Nikon F lenses to Z bodies ~ obviously) for +$47…
At B&H Photo’s listings the freebies are a 64GB Sandisk Extreme PRO SDXC, a RJ shoulder bag, a 62mm UV filter (with a limited 10 year warranty) and a Zeiss-branded lens care kit…
Fascinating how the two top camera makers managed to have four different iLC camera systems each 🙂
Sunday: Case Logic Viso DSLR/mirrorless bag for $30
One of the Best Buy daily deals for Sunday 11/1/20 [remember to set your non-automated clocks to “fall back”] is the new condition Case Logic Viso DSLR/mirrorless bag for $30. The Viso name may confuse some with “Visor” but it’s really a camrea bag 🙂
Also part of the sale are Insignia (house brand) single-use batteries in various packs and an Anker 3-slot car charger for $15…
For today only, Touch of Modern (ToM) offers 20% back as store credit for you on purchases you make. ToM is a membership site (free and easy to join), so they can offer products below MAP and such. You can’t see the products unless you login. Unfortunately I don’t have my password on this computer, so I can’t check their current inventory…
Last but not least at the Amazon Holiday Dash they have yet another Anker sale (powerbanks, cables, etc) and for coffee machine fans, they have a couple of Nespresso with Milk Frother and Capsules kits for $120. Some argue that Nespresso is a step above Keurig. Personally I only used generic Keurig K-cup machines (when the pourover hipsters were not monitoring me), so I can’t compare 😉
Sunday: VisibleDust, Shure, Etc

PSA: time change once again, and this time it is FALL BACK = an extra hour for ZZzZzz or an extra hour for an extra ZZ Top album stream 😉
