New Tamron VIP Club includes Discounts and other Benefits

It’s Tamron Wynette time! They have just revealed a brand new annualized membership club for Tamron lens owners, the Tamron VIP Club. The virtual club has three membership tiers, depending on how many Tamron lenses you have purchased and registered since May 2011.

The deadline for participating in the 2018 club year is January 15 in 2018. You must register by then a minimum of FOUR Tamron lenses to get in at the SILVER tier. If you register FIVE or more, you are at the GOLD tier, and six or more make you a PLATINUM member.

These are actually practical and tangible benefits!

TAMRON SILVER TIER

  • $50 bonus rebate towards any Tamron lens
  • 10% off non-warranty repair
  • Tamron Magazine mailed three times a year
  • unspecified “Welcome Gift”
  • membership card with lanyard
  • VIP member contests
  • 50% off a Tamron event ticket (Summit excluded)

TAMRON GOLD TIER

  • includes all SILVER tier benefits with the following adjustments
  • $75 bonus rebate instead of $50
  • two Tamron Event discounted tickets instead of one
  • FREE Tamron t-shirt
  • Free pass to one Tamron event (excludes summit)
  • new benefits to this tier are in bold

TAMRON PLATINUM TIER

  • includes all GOLD tier benefits with the following adjustments
  • $100 bonus rebate instead of $75/$50
  • Tamron LL Bean vest
  • Free 2-week lens loaners (if available, with signed loaner agreement)
  • Lifetime Limited Warranty on any new lens purchase from year of Club induction
  • Free shipping on repairs (Tamron USA will send a pre-paid shipping label to receive your lens)
  • Tamron Photo Tips Hotline
  • Invitation to a Tamron Workshop Summit
  • option to maybe get profiled on their website
  • 20% discount on non-warranty repair instead of 10%
  • free pass to two Tamron events instead of one
  • new benefits to this tier are in bold

RESTRICTIONS and ELIGIBILITY

The membership tiers will be assessed once per year. On subsequent years, VIP Club membership status will be announced to all Members on February 15 of each year, with the registration deadline being January 15 of the same year.

Not every lens qualifies towards the minimum of four for the VIP tiers. Per their website, and this is my interpretation of their rules:

  • only Tamron model lenses that were current at the time of purchase count towards the tiers. Current lenses are listed on the Tamron USA website at tamron-usa.com
  • Teleconverters and Tap-In Console are not considered Eligible Purchases
  • Multiple purchases of same lens model, even if different mounts, are not considered Eligible Purchases
  • Each Member must own his/her own unique Tamron model lens
  • Grey market, open stock, and refurbished lenses are NOT eligible purchases
  • Only new and current Tamron lenses purchased from an authorized Tamron USA retailer are eligible purchases

Used Tamron 18-200mm f/3.5-6.3 DI-II VC for $125 [C]

The popularity of superzoom digital cameras also fueled a parallel superzoom lens “zoom ratio war”. If instead you prefer a more modest, old-school superzoom ratio, the Tamron 18-200mm f/3.5-6.3 DI-II VC goes for $199 in new condition, or you can get it for $179 manufacturer refurbished at Adorama.

If you are a Canon shooter and if you are looking to save a sizeable chunk of that, thanks to the 20% off in-cart promotion at Amazon Warehouse Deals, you can get this camera in USED – Very Good condition for $124~ with free shipping after the in-cart discount. There are multiple listings of this, so price may drop over time. Remember, AWD offers a 30-day return policy, but makes no warranty promises.

If you are looking for something in-between those two options, the Nikon version is available in USED EX+ condition (Excellent plus) at KEH Camera for $149 plus shipping. And if you buy it before 12/31/17, you get a 365-day warranty instead of the usual 180-day.

The Sony A version is backordered and cannot be ordered at this time.

Adorama has all three options in-stock and orderable for $399 with $16 promotional rewards but no free Hoya lens filter.

Amazon has them for $399 as well but no promotional rewards. However, if you pay with the Prime VISA credit card, you get 5% cashback (around $20 in your statement).

Pre-order new Tamron 100-400mm f4.5-6.3 Di VC USD [C/N]

Photo Plus Expo is in progress and that means new camera gear is raining left and right. Zooming in for the party is Tamron with their new 100-400mm F/4.5-6.3 Di VC USD lens available for pre-order for $799 in Canon or Nikon at B&H Photo and Adorama.

This too has been added to the list of New Lenses of 2017.

Tamron 12-28mm f4 PRO APS-C for $199 [Canon]

It looks like Amazon has price-matched the B&H offer. As of the time of writing, you can get the new condition Tamron 12-28mm f4 PRO APS-C lens in the Canon mount for $199 with free shipping, sold and shipped by Amazon itself. Maximum three lenses per customer.

It is currently in “temporarily out of stock” status, so shipping date is up in the air, but you can lock the $199 price if you like it.

Imported Tamron 24-70mm f2.8 Di VC USD for $690 [C/N]

The new condition Tamron 24-70mm f/2.8 Di VC USD lens bundled with some free accessories goes for $1100 at authorized dealers such as Adorama. But if you want to save a lot and you are comfortable with imported grey-market, then…

… to the eBay Deals we go where eBay seller “QuickNDone” (99.9%) is offering the lens in new condition imported grey-market for $690 with free shipping in the Canon mount or the Nikon mount.

Limit five per mount per customer. Between them they sold over 800 units.

Warranty-wise, if you are buying in Canada, you get a 6-year Tamron Canada warranty. If you are buying elsewhere, you get the 1-year Tamron International warranty. So it’s a lot shorter than the Tamron USA warranty. That’s one of the reasons why the price is lower. They are a Canadian seller but the eBay listing says they ship from various locations in the USA.

Tamron SP 45mm f1.8 Di VC USD with FREE 67mm Hoya Filter and $16 rewards for $399 [C/N; A (no VC)]

Prime temptation of the stabilized kind! Hide your wallets! The new condition Tamron SP 45mm f/1.8 Di VC USD is bundled with a FREE Hoya 67mm UV Haze NXT HMC Filter and 4% promotional rewards (around $16 to be used in future purchases) at B&H Photo for $399 with free expedited shipping in the Canon and Nikon DSLR systems. The same price and extras are available for the Sony A system but the lens is not stabilized (VC).

The same price with 4% promotional rewards but no free Hoya filter at Adorama. The same price but no freebies thru Amazon (but you can get 5% statement credit as a Prime member paying with official Amazon credit cards).

Still Good: Tamron 18-270mm f3.5-6.3 Di II VC PZD for $329 [C/N, A {no VC}]

A proper superzoom lens sale! The new condition Tamron AF18-270mm f/3.5-6.3 Di II VC PZD lens is on sale for $329 with free expedited shipping in the Canon and Nikon DSLR systems at B&H Photo. VC here meaning Vibration Correction which is Tamron-speak for image stabilization.

This lens is also on sale in the Sony A-mount, however this one is without VC since Sony camera bodies support sensor-shift image stabilization. Check your local photo forums for never-ending debates on the merits of the various image stabilization systems 🙂

As of 9/28/17 9:12am ET recheck, this sale continues… This sale ends on 9/27/17 at 11:59pm ET (or earlier if any of them sell out).

Imported Tamron 24-70 f2.8 Di VC USD for $690 [C/N]

The first generation new condition Tamron SP 24-70mm F/2.8 Di VC USD goes for $1100 at authorized dealers which can include some free accessories such as Adorama.

But if you are a more adventurous shopper, then to the eBay Deals we go, where eBay seller “QuickNDone” (99.9%) is offering the lens in new condition for $690 with free shipping in the Nikon system. Per the listing, the sale ends 9/20/17.

UPDATE: they also offer this in the Canon EF system for the same price.

Further down the product listing, under “Warranty” it says that you get either a 1-Year Tamron International warranty or a 6-Year Tamron Canada warranty, depending on location. They also offer a 30-day return policy.

This is a higher risk than buying in new condition from authorized Tamron USA dealers, that’s one of the reasons for the lower price. I believe “QuickNDone” is a Canadian seller.

New Lens, No Pre-Orders: Tamron 100-400 f4.5-6.3 Di VC USD

Tamron has revealed a new DSLR lens, the 100-400 f4.5-6.3 Di VC USD for the Canon and Nikon systems. There is no price on the lens yet, and since there’s no price, there are no pre-order options yet either.

There is a product page created for this lens however at B&H Photo.

This too has been added to the New Lenses of 2017 page.

Now shipping: Tamron 24-70mm f2.8 Di VC USD G2 (Canon EF)

The mirrorless systems sort of countered the advantage of Canon and Nikon DSLR systems having more 3rd-party lens options than the DSLR systems of the other manufacturers. But DSLR-wise, Canon and Nikon systems still have an advantage over the other remaining DSLR systems.

For example, then new Tamron 24-70mm f2.8 Di VC USD G2 is only available in Nikon and Canon, and as of the time of writing, the Canon EF version is in-stock and ready to ship for $1199 at B&H Photo.

The 3rd-party lens manufacturers also serve to keep OG Canon and Nikon lens prices in check. Imagine how much the f2.8 PRO zooms would cost if Canikon knew that you couldn’t get Tamrons and Tokinas and Shigumas instead…

PS: “Shiguma” was the computer-translated name of Sigma from back in the day of earlier versions of computer-translation software technology 🙂

Tamron SP 150-600mm f5-6.3 Di VC USD for $819 [C/A]

Tamron SP 150-600mm f5-6.3 Di VC USD for $869 (C/N/A)

If you are not tempted by the latest generation Tamron 150-600mm in the previously mentioned Tamron Solar Eclipse offer for Canon, Nikon and Sony A systems, and you instead prefer the first generation of the lens, without any solar eclipse accessories…

… then you can get the new condition Tamron SP 150-600mm f/5-6.3 Di VC USD for $869 with free shipping in the Canon, Nikon and Sony A systems at B&H Photo (with 4% promotional rewards) and at Amazon by Amazon itself (limit 3 per mount per customer; 5% back for Prime members paying with Prime cards)…

If you want to use the first generation lens for solar eclipse purposes, you can always purchase the appropriate filters and glasses separately. Or Nikon shooters can get the ready-made bundle from B&H Photo (only freebie are the $5 glasses vs buying lens + filter separately).

Tamron 150-600mm Solar Eclipse Bundle (with Marumi 95mm Filter) for $1499

If you are looking for solar eclipse bundles, B&H Photo has a limited time Tamron promotion that bundles the Tamron SP 150-600mm f/5-6.3 Di VC USD G2 lens with the Tamron Marumi 95mm DHG ND-100000 Solid Neutral Density 5.0 Solar Eclipse Filter (16.5 Stops) and a 5-pk of solar eclipse glasses, all together for $1499 with free expedited shipping.

The lens goes for $1399 on its own, and the Marumi filter goes for $299 on its own, so you are getting a $200 combined purchase discount. The glasses are just $5, so they are a rounding error considering the price 🙂

The above link points to the Canon version, but this offer is also available for the Sony A version and the Nikon F version.

PRO TIP: if you are not familiar with the B&H Photo website, locate the “In the Box” section on the right hand side of their website, further down, to see what items are included with your purchase. They typically do a great job of showing the accessories by the manufacturer and then the items/accessories that may be included as a bundle or “free with purchase” promotions.

If you don’t want/need the Marumi filter, the lens without the two “solar accessories” is bundled with typical lens-y free accessories at Adorama (Corel software, filter kit, etc).

Used Tamron AF 17-50mm F/2.8 SP XR Di II VC for $203 (Canon EF) or $252 (Nikon F)

If you are comfortable buying used f2.8 PRO zoom APS-C lenses, the previously mentioned Amazon Warehouse Deals Bargain Bin Clearance includes the Tamron AF 17-50mm F/2.8 SP XR Di II VC lens as follows:

+ the Canon EF mount is available in “Used – Very Good” condition (check each individual listing) for $203 with free shipping

+ the Nikon F mount has only one listing, “Used – Good” condition for $252~ with free shipping

The above two links are filtered so they only show the options sold and shipped by Amazon Warehouse Deals itself (in other words, Amazon proper). If you want to compare prices to the other Amazon Warehouse Deals sellers, here are the two links un-filtered:

+ the Canon EF mount
+ the Nikon F mount

In new condition, these lenses go for $650 at authorized dealers, such as B&H Photo and Adorama.

PS: in Tamron-speak, “Di II” is an APS-C lens, and “VC” is optical image stabilization (VC = vibration correction).
