Pre-order new Fujifilm GF 45mm f2.8 R WR [Medium Format]

The Fuji GFX mirrorless medium format system has a new member today, a brand new lens, the new Fuji Fujinon GF 45mm f2.8 R WR, available for pre-ordering for $1699 at Adorama and B&H Photo.

Medium Format systems are more specialty, so you’re not gonna get a burst of new lenses like you may get with DSLR and mirrorless 35mm and smaller-sensor systems.

There is only one camera so far in the system, the GFX-50S, which goes for $6500 in new condition or you can get it used starting at $5300 at Amazon Warehouse Deals. You can find this at the bottom of the Stock Status Tracker.

Trade-In Fuji GFX-50S Offer: $650 off discount + Value of your Used Serious Camera

If you are interested in buying the Fuji GFX-50S medium format camera body-only kit in new condition, AND you have a serious DSLR or mirrorless or medium format camera you are willing to part with, Adorama has a Fuji GFX-50S Trade-In Promotion.

You can only trade-in one of the cameras listed in the aforelinked promotional page. They are serious cameras, for example, among Canons, it starts with the 6D and goes up to the 1D*; among Nikons it is D600 and up, among Sonys it is Sony a850/900, a7* and up, and so forth. Some medium format cameras are also eligible. See the complete list in this PDF file (direct link to PDF file).

I haven’t done this promotion, but based on the Promotional page, the steps are these:

  • fill in your information in the Trade-In form
  • send your used camera to Adorama
  • after Adorama receives your used camera and evaluates it, they will send you:
    1. a check for the value of your used camera
    2. a coupon code that gets you $650 off the purchase of the Fuji GFX-50S
  • using the coupon code, you can them purchase the GFX-50S for $650 off its current price

Hasselblad Trade-In Discounts (Older Cameras for H6D models)

If you are interested in the new Hasselblad H6D models and have older models you are willing to part with, Hasselblad is running a trade-in promotion that gets you discounts towards the purchase of the H6D-50 and H6D-100 models. The discount varies by model, but it’s better than 50% of the new model price. Some competitor models are also eligible for the trade-in promotion. Check with your favorite Hasselblad dealers.

They are also offering financing promotions that can be stacked with the trade-in, provided by Madison Capital.

Used Fuji GFX-50S body for $5979 to $6000; New In-Stock for $6500

New addition to the Stock Status Tracker, the Fuji GFX-50S, it is in-stock for $6500 at multiple dealers, but if you are comfortable with used, you can get it for $5979 by Amazon Warehouse Deals itself (Amazon’s used sales persona, Prime eligible for members), or for $6000 by OneCall (Prime eligible) with a 1-year warranty from OneCall. Amazon’s own Warehouse Deals only promises a 30-day return policy, they don’t promise a warranty. From there, Adorama has it in “Used – Demo” condition for $6349 plus shipping (which is very close to the new condition price).

It is in-stock in new condition for $6500 at the usual places, including Adorama and B&H Photo and Amazon. Keep in mind, B&H and Adorama orders will ship beginning Wednesday April 19.

PS: blanket warning reminder for Amazon ~ Amazon has yet to figure out how to block the armies of spam/scam/bot sellers that offer high-demand items at ridiculously low prices in order to harvest customer data (and who knows what else they plan). These are typically “Just Launched” sellers, and they ask you to email them before buying.

It’s the official launch of a brand new camera system today. Fuji has unveiled their Mirrorless Medium Format system with a starting line-up of ONE camera and THREE lenses (two prime, one zoom). The camera uses a 43.8 x 32.9mm sensor with 51.4 megapixels, a surface area approximately 1.7x that of 35mm FF. The prices of the camera and lenses are appopriately sized as well and they are available for pre-ordering as follows:

Pentax 645D Body Only for $4000 [or $3150 on eBay or $2650 Used]

A comment by S.W. Anderson in the Hasselblad MF Mirrorless post got me price-checking medium format cameras, and it looks like the first generation Pentax 645D body only is currently going for $4000 in new condition at Amazon by Amazon actual. This is no longer available from B&H and Adorama. Amazon’s shipping estimate is 1-4 months, so keep that in mind if you need it to arrive quickly.

Or if you are a more adventurous shopper, there are a couple of eBay listings on it:
+ New Condition for $3150 with Best Offer Enabled (this is a private eBay listing for extra protection; ships from Los Angeles)

+ Used Condition for $2650 [CORRECTED!] (ships from Delaware; listing says used in-studio only with 3269 actuations)

+ the eBay listings above are from individuals, not retailers

In comparison, the latest model, the Pentax 645Z, goes for $7000 in new condition at B&H Photo (with 4% rewards = $280~) and Adorama (with 4% rewards = $280~). There’s also a 645Z Comprehensive Starter Kit that goes for $16,000 and includes three lenses (55/2.8, 90/2.8, 28-45/4.5, extra accessories and the protective case you see in the pictures.

Pre-order Hasselblad Mirrorless Medium Format System

The mirrorless party jumps to the Medium Format world as well, Hasselblad has a new Medium Format mirrorless system with the new X1D-50c camera and two prime lenses (90/3.2 and 45/3.5). The new items are available for pre-order with a late July 2016 release estimate. Pre-order new Hasselblad H6D Cameras and Nine New HC Lenses

New Hasselblad camera gear have been revealed and they are now available for pre-order at B&H Photo as follows: the Hasselblad H6D-50c Medium Format DSLR Camera for $26,000 (50mp), the Hasselblad H6D-100c Medium Format DSLR Camera for $33,000 (100mp) and nine Hasselblad HC Lenses (eight primes, one zoom) with prices ranging from $2970 to $6010 (the zoom).

The cameras are expected to ship in June, while the lenses at the end of April 2016. As usual, estimates are estimates and can change over time.
