Strategically, it’s the same thing as usual: if you need it now vs if you don’t need it now. In the future, there will be more cameras and more discounts and more sales and more options (other things equal).

Another Olympus E-PL5 price drop since the start of the year, the E-PL5 with the 14-42mm lens is down to $450 with free shipping and free 16GB SD at Amazon by Amazon herself. It was going for $600 at the end of the year (see Mirrorless Price Chart).

The silver Olympus E-PL5 body only is going for $400 with free shipping by Willoughby’s at Amazon. The order ships from Willoughby’s, not Amazon… UPDATE: the white body only is likewise at $400.
The Olympus Outlet Store is offering the refurbished Olympus E-M5 with 12-50mm for $750 in either silver or black. The parallel body only kits go for $625.
As of a 12/10/14 recheck, the camera is sold-out at B&H and marked as Discontinued which typically means they won’t have any more inventory…
If you must have this camera now, and don’t want to wait for other deals (I have no idea whether or not there will be such deals in the future), you can get it for $240 certified refurbished from the Olympus Store or for about the same price you can get it from Japanese importers with international warranty.

The Olympus USA store (GetOlympus) has launched what they call their early Black Friday sale. In addition to the discounts, they also offer free 2-day shipping with any order of $25 or more, which may be useful if you need any accessories or extra batteries and things of that nature. Their sale includes M43 cameras, M43 lenses, and P&S digital cameras. Promotion ends 11/30/14 or earlier if sold out.

Olympus is currently running a Micro Four Thirds combined purchase promotion. Purchase one camera (eligible options are the OM-Ds (E-M1, E-M5, E-M10), the E-P5, the E-PL7) and up to four lenses from a choice of 15 lenses. Each lens added to the cart has a discount of either $100 or $200 attached to it. You can add up to four lenses for a maximum savings of $800 per shopping cart! Eligible lenses are high and low, from the 12-40/2.8 to the 14-42/3.5-5.6 II R. It’s a mix of zooms and primes, including one pancake. I didn’t find a promotion-wide expiration date, but the prices of the individual products are good until 11/1/14, so we can perhaps assume that’s the expiration date of this promotion.
In a separate promotion, you can get the VF-4 viewfinder for $100 if you purchase it together with the E-P5 body only. This VF4 promotion ends 10/25/14.
In yet another promotion, Olympus offers free 2-day shipping with orders of $50 or more. This shipping promotion ends 10/23/14.

NewEgg launched its own Groupon-style service called NewEggFlash and a new offer that went live today (expiring by 10/19/14) offers the Olympus PEN E-P1 Silver w/14-42mm for $220 with free shipping. The bottom of the page says this is covered by the Photo-4-Now return policy, which we can assume means that Photo-4-Now is the seller.
