YI is taking Prime Day seriously with actual discounts, unlike many of the MAP-obsessed more famous iLC camera manufacturers. Their YI M1 with 12-40mm Micro Four Thirds camera is now on sale for $299 instead of its regular price of $350 in the silver or black color schemes by YI with the orders fulfilled by Amazon, so they are Prime eligible.

Their two other kits are also discounted (two lens kit, or with 42.5mm f1.8 instead of 12-40). The best bang for the buck is the YI M1 with 12-40mm and 45mm f1.8 for $379, so essentially $80 more gets you the 45mm f1.8 lens added to your bundle.

There are recurring offers that “bribe” you with a $10 Amazon credit to change your default Amazon credit or debit card to a specific bank and type. I’ve seen this happen with various, eg Discover and Citibank. These offers usually appear in the Shopping Cart, and also in internal ad banners while you are browsing around the Amazon website.

Especially this time of the year, it pays to keep an eye out for out of the blue offers. Some may be targeted. A lot of these offers can be “once per account”, so if you had previously taken advantage of it, you may not be eligible for it again. Or at least until they reset their counters or change how they do it 🙂

Pre-order new Leica TL2 Mirrorless

It’s new camera time! Leica has officially announced the new TL2 mirrorless camera, with a 24mp APS-C sensor and Leica L-Bayonet Mount. It is available in the two customary Leica black and silver color schemes, with a pre-order price of $1950 at B&H Photo.

This new mirrorless camera now “evens the score” as we have 7 new DSLRs and 7 new Mirrorless cameras in 2017. There’s still plenty of time until the end of the year. But there is no Photokina this year, so we may need a penalty shootout if it ends up being a tie 😉

Pre-order new Gitzo 100 Year Anniversary Tripods

Nikon has launched their 100 Year Anniversary products but they are not the only ones celebrating 100 years. If you are a fan of Gitzo Tripods, they have in very limited quantities two new 100-Year Anniversary tripods. Just like the Nikon cameras, they are priced for collectors and hardcore fans in terms of pricing.

The Gitzo 100-Year Anniversary Edition Tripod with Ball Head goes for $1500, while the Gitzo 100-Year Anniversary Arsene Gitzhoven Edition Tripod with Ball Head goes for $3000. They are expected to ship in late October 2017.

The former can be purchased online, but the latter (the $3000 model) can only be ordered in-store or by calling B&H and it is not returnable and non-cancelable. The $1500 model is a regular internet purchase without the above restrictions.
