UPDATE: Or if you prefer the HERO 8, you can get it for $299 with free US shipping but without the two freebies at B&H Photo

Google Pixel 4 for $500+, Pixel 4 XL for $600+

The ghosts of the Nexus phones are haunting the Pixel 4, but if you’ve read the reviews, pixel-peeped the sample pictures, and you are certain the Pixel 4* line is the one for you, for a limited time B&H Photo is having discounts on select Pixel 4 phones as follows:

+ Pixel 4: 64GB for $500, 128GB for $600

+ Pixel 4 XL: 64GB for $600, 128GB for $700

These are new condition, factory unlocked, with USA warranty. B&H includes a free case and Mint Mobile SIM card.

NOTE that the Pixel 4 phones do NOT have a headphone jack, and they do NOT have a microSD slot. But you can swim in the Google Clouds 🙂

A lot of people consider the Pixel 4 to have the most pure camera, but not all agree. For example, it is currently at #19 in the DxoMark rankings which have two of the new Honor *30* phones in the Top 5. SPOILER ALERT: the #1 in the ranking is a …LEICA 🙂

NOTE that the latest Huaweii P40* series of phones do NOT have Google Play because of the Huaweii embargo thing. If you look in the forums, there are various hacks that come and go, but come on, it’s 2020, who wants to hunt and peck hacks just so you can run basic apps on your phone?

I remember doing this ten years ago with a crappy Pandigital (?) tablet I got on sale at Radio Shaq. No way I would do this now, there are a gazillion other phones available. But that’s just me. Some people love the excitement of living on the Google Play Frontier 🙂

In-Stock Now: Leica M Monochrome rangefinder

In a black and white world, it’s easier to appreciate the beauty of gray, and if you are a Leica fan, you have 8295 reasons to appreciate the new condition Leica M10 Monochrom digital rangefinder, coming in-stock for $8295 with free US shipping at B&H Photo

Samsung Galaxy S20 for $800, S20+ for $1000 [with FREE 128GB microSD]

A limited time offer is running at B&H Photo on the new condition unlocked with USA warranty Samsung S20 and S20+ flagship series smartphones! And during this promotion, each one gets a free 128GB Samsung EVO Plus microSDXC card included by B&H.

The prices are as follows: the 128GB S20 goes for $800, while the 128GB S20+ (aka Plus) goes for $1000, while the 512GB of that goes for $1150.

Further down the list, and not getting the free 128GB microSD card you will find international Latin America versions of the S20 Ultra (the more expensive of this flagship trio) going for $1200. One clue as to the internationality is the “dual SIM” in the title. These come with a 1-year B&H warranty. NOTE that this has the Exynos chip, not the QualComm SnapDragon.

NOTE also that these are 5G phones, so you may accidentally intercept intergalactic planetary conversations 🙂

Still Good: “Analogue Photography: A Reference Manual for Shooting Film” by Andrew Bellamy for $3

UPDATE 4/10/20 at 12:43pm ET: as of this recheck, the $3 sale price continues for this ebook that was a Wednesday daily deal…

Everything old is new again! There’s a brand new book about shooting on film and it is one of the Amazon Wednesday ebook deals of the day, good until 11:59pm pacific time on 4/8/20. The author is Andrew Bellamy and the 192-page Princeton Architectural Press ebook is on sale for $3 for the Kindle. The ebook is titled “Analogue Photography: A Reference Manual for Shooting Film”

The Kindle sample will show you the first few pages of the book (including the table of contents) but if you go the the paperback page and “Look Inside” you will be able to jump around inside the book.

There are a couple of international reviews on it (one UK, one Italy) while the only USA review is a two-word review titled “Beautiful Design” but with a 1-star rating. This type of confusion sadly is prevalent (for various reasons) at Amazon, where the text of the review does not match the star rating. In this case, this novice reviewer may have gotten confused because on the same day (Nov 30, 2019) he reviewed a physical product with a 1-star for which he wrote actual meaningful text that matched the review title of “Total Rip-Off”.

Regardless, you can return e-books if you don’t like them. You can go to amazon.com/myk and select “Digital”, locate the ebook you want to return, click on the dots and select “Return for Refund”. The return window for ebooks is one week (or something like that, I don’t recall the exact duration)…

16×12 inch custom canvas print for $5 + S&H

Canvas time at Groupon, this time it is a Canvas On Sale promotion, where $5 gets you a 16×12 inch custom canvas print, or $11 for 20×16 inch or $22 for a 36×24 inch, and so forth. Shipping is extra!

Speaking of Groupon, they are having another BJ Warehouse membership promotion. For $20 you get a 1-year Inner Circle membership at their stores and website. This includes a second card for a household member. This is good for new members only!

As usual, be sure to read the terms, conditions, restrictions, deadlines, etc before jumping in on a Groupon offer…

Starts Thur 12pm ET (FREE to Stream): “Food Photography” class (Available Light, Real Food only, 14 hours long)

If you are interested in food photography, real photography, not smartphone-food-bloggies, and available light photography at that, using real food, not props and such, using manual exposure for everything, starting on Thursday 4/9/20 at 12pm eastern at the Creative LIVE ON-AIR they will be streaming the “Food Photography” with photographer Penny De Los Santos.

If you can’t wait to get started, Lesson #4 is streaming for FREE all the time as part of the class’s promotional material. Lesson #4 is 43 minutes long and it is titled “Principles of Food Photography” and it will give you a very good idea whether you would be interested in watching the class in full…

NOTE: this is a 14-hour class, so it will only air once in full during the 24-hour streaming window. Its second airing will begin around 2am ET but there’s only 10 hours until the next rotation, so the second airing will be incomplete. If you like it well enough, it is on sale for $39.

PS: the photographer, Penny de los Santos has already co-authored a number of published print cookbooks

UPDATE: another solid class will be offered on Thursday starting at 12pm ET, if you are interested in music mastering, there is a nine hour DIY Mastering class with Jesse Cannon [not Nikkon] 😉
