AMEX Offer (YMMV): Spend $75+, Get $15 statement credit at Exposures Online

If you have an American Express credit card, check your Offers section (below the account summary when you logon to your account – on the desktop browser page). Their computers decide who(m) to offer this, so there is a YMMV here. One of the recently added offers is this: pay $75+ and get $15 back as a statement credit to your AMEX account at ExposuresOnline.com (they sell photo albums, picture frames, etc). You have to manually opt-in to the offer (by clicking the “Add to Card” button) before you use it. Once you opt-in, the discount happens automatically on the back-end. They will send you an email once a qualifying transaction arrives at their system. This offer ends 10/14/15 and can be used once during this promotional period.

This applies to everyone: when you visit the Exposures Online site for the first time, a window pops that offers you a 15% off coupon discount if you are willing to enter your email to join their email list.

Pre-order Google OnHub surprise Wifi Router for $200

And while we are on the topic of concierge services, Google had a surprise today too. They teamed up with TP-Link to provide a new $200 OnHub Wifi hardware cylinder that promises a more user-friendly Wifi setup and experience with timely updates and security features. IT only has one Ethernet port of its own but a simple Ethernet Switch can give you more ports. It also comes with a companion app. Because Google needs ALL your data, not just most of it 🙂 It is available for pre-order for $200 at Google and Amazon et al with an end of August release estimate.

NOTE: after you enter your email, their website automatically tries to start downloading their book creation software on your computers. On Windows, this is http://assets.mypublisher.com/software/win/MyPublishersetup-USD-en-US.exe. As a minimum they should be _clearly_ warning people ahead of time this is about to happen because many and more these days are spooked by surprise downloads of things. If you purchase the Pentax 645Z body only kit TOGETHER with ONE LENS from a list of 15 eligible 645 lenses, you will save $1200 on the total purchase amount. No coupon, no rebate, just add one of the lenses to the bundle and add the bundle to the shopping. You can only add ONE lens to this promotion – you cannot turn it into a money-maker fatwallet-style 🙂

There are two lenses in the lot that go for $1200 (or less), essentially making the lenses FREE (55/2.8, 200/4). The discount cannot be bigger than the price of the lens, so the $1100 lens is only a $1100 discount. The next lowest price lens of the lot is the 45mm f2.8 (645) which goes for $1300, so with the combined purchase discount, you are essentially getting it for $100.

A lot of recent camera models are rarely discounted, so one way to get some kind of a discount is through rewards. Case in point, Rakuten (Buy.com) is offering 7% back in Rakuten rewards on technology (and 15% back on everything else) when you use coupon code REWARDME when you make a purchase at Rakuten.com. Offer ends by the end of day on 8/20/15.

This is not a discount, but reward points added to your Rakuten account. Reward points are promotional points, they have to be spend within a specified amount of time, which makes this perhaps a better offer for frequent shoppers there.
