New Series: Rantnoyances – pointing out consumer-related issues in shopping

A brand new series has gone live at the main blog, The Rantnoyances (rant + annoyance), pointing out consumer-related issues in camera (and general) shopping. We already had a couple of posts here earlier on (Jet and Triggered) but all the future posts will go to the main blog where it is a better place for longer and more reference-type material. Things fly off the page quickly here, so people don’t always see them, or can’t find them easily as time goes by (even I couldn’t find them quickly!). Rantnoyance #1 is an updated version of the Jet post, now with more details added!

YMMV 4% to 8% eBay Bucks depending on item price

If you are an eBay Bucks rewards member, check your emails/messages for a potential new bonus bucks offer. This may be targeted, so I have no way of knowing how many people get it. You must manually activate the offer via the email/message before you earn the bonus. The bonus depends on the item’s purchase price. Items over $50, get 8%. Items between $25 and $50, get 6%. And items under $25, get 4%. The percentage depends on an item’s price, not the order total. The usual rewards percentage is 2%. The usual terms and exclusions apply. Offer ends Tuesday 11/2/16 at 11:59pm pacific time…

A good place to look for ideas are the eBay Deals along with the Trending Deals (shows only 100 trending deals, less overwhelming to look at than their main deals page). There’s also a dedicated search box there that searches only the Deals, not everything else on eBay.

Stock Update: more Panasonic G85, Fuji X-T2 at higher prices, Sony RX100 V steady

We just updated the Stock Status Tracker and have these latest developments:

+ more Panasonic G85 inventory, the G85 w/12-60mm is in-stock for $1000 by B&H Photo and 3rd-parties thru Amazon

+ both Fuji X-T2 kits are in-stock HOWEVER the offering retailers ask for $300 more on the body-only and $100 more the w/18-55 kit

+ the Sony RX100 V is steadily in-stock everywhere and has been moved to the bottom of the Stock Status Tracker

Canon 2-Lens STM Bundle: 50mm f1.8 EF and 10-18 f4-5.6 IS EF-S for $350

Nikon launched its own 2-lens bundle last year (currently available for purchase but not discounted, it goes for $800+), so obviously Canon had to come up with their own 2-lens bundle, it is the EF 50mm f1.8 STM prime lens bundled together with the EF-S 10-18mm f4.5-5.6 IS STM together going for $350 with free shipping at Amazon by Amazon itself and B&H Photo.

PlayStation 4 Camera for $40 (limit 3)

It’s a camera of different kind, but still a camera, the Sony PlayStation 4 Camera is currently on sale for $40 with a limit of three units per customer at Amazon by Amazon itself. Free shipping for Prime members or with a $49+ order (or $25+ in books).

$5 Amazon Gift Card with select Alexa Voice purchases

Black Friday 2016 is just 3.5 weeks away (yes, that’s right!), and retailers are ramping up their offers. It’s a good time to stock up on store credits and bonuses with these type of offers. In addition to the previously mentioned Amazon Gift Card Reload promotion, Amazon also has a $5 bonus for Alexa Shoppers. If you make an Alexa Voice purchase from a list of participating items, you will receive a $5 Amazon gift card for boldly going. The offer ends 11/18/16 or after 25,000 redemptions; whichever happens first. I don’t have an Alexa, so I can’t test this, so YMMV. Details at the aforelinked page.

Still Good: Adobe Photoshop Elements 15 for $40

This offer continues, the latest edition of Adobe Photoshop Elements, version 15 is going for $40 at Amazon as either a Windows download (available right away via download) or Box by Mail (“Temporarily Out Of Stock” but you can order it if you want to lock the price down). This is not a lightning deal, so I do not know what’s the time frame.

Meta: New Price Charts Series began with 35mm Full Frame Digital Cameras

The promised Price Charts series of November 2016 has began with the charts/discussion of 35mm Full Frame Digital Cameras. I won’t spoil the findings here, but it is definitely a different pattern from last year’s comparison. These will continue on a daily basis, with APS-C DSLRs, Mirrorless and finally Fixed-Lens Cameras getting their own posts. As usual please feel free to leave comments/corrections/omissions/etc. If I don’t notice a problem or error, I can’t fix it 🙂

YMMV: 1% Back on PayPal purchases (max $10 benefit)

Once upon a time PayPal reigned supreme as an online payment method. Now it’s getting attacked from all directions, so they discovered new technologies, like customer service and customer benefits 😉 They are now running a targeted promotion, it is a YMMV since I have no clue what percentage of their customers is getting this offer. If you are eligible, you should see it in your emails or PayPal website. You have to manually opt-in the offer by clicking on the Activate button in the mail. The benefit is this: you get 1% back on PayPal purchases until November 20, 2016 (of course they exclude Black Friday shopping!). The maximum cashback you get from this is $10 (=== $1000 in purchases). Here’s a screenshot from that email:

(RESOLVED) Technical Issue: Category Archives Show All posts

This has now been resolved, categories are working as expected again. Refresh the page if you still see the issue.

If any of you run into this, there’s a simple way to fix it in WordPress, go to Settings, then Permalinks, and change or enter something under “Category base”. Reload the page to make sure it takes effect, and then go back and change it to what it was before (or empty it if it was empty). Then refresh the page again, and it should work as expected.

The original post describing the issue is after the jump…
