EU Prime Day Camera Gear: Canon, Sony, Pentax, Samyang, Zeiss Batis, Panasonic S5, Storage, Etc

It’s already Prime Day in Europe and at the Amazon Germany website there’s among others a Canon gear sale that includes the 90D, the G3X, and lenses of different kinds (EF, EF-S, EF-M, RF)… A total of nine options is available as of the time of writing…

But that’s not all! There’s also a big (two page) Sony-priority camera gear sale that includes various Sony lenses, the RX100 III, the 7R II body only, lenses from Samyang, Zeiss Batis, Pentax (eg 50/1.8 SMC DA for 100 euro), and Tamron, Panasonic S5, Steiner binos, and more!

A macro and stabilized lens with constant aperture and versatile zoom range! Competitive but pricey says DXoMark, better than the Canon L 24-105 but below the Shiguma ART. Since you are not paying $1300 for it stand-alone (or +$1000 for the kit), it’s not as pricey! Sign me up!

Of e-reader interest under “Computers” at the Woot website there’s a trio of new condition 9th-generation 7-inch Kindle Oasis e-readers ranging from $150 to $200 (8GB = $150, 32GB = $170, 32GB + cellular = $200). They come with a 1-year Amazon warranty. This is the “previous generation”. The latest Kindles are the 10th generation which includes the Oasis 3. Neither uses USB-C. Once upon a time I knew this line-up by heart, now there’s way too many of them. Thankfully there’s a very nice Wackypedia page to sort them all out! I got started with the “Kindle Keyboard”, although I was ponderously pondering the 9.7-inch Kindle DX before that…

Pre-order the new Sigma I-series compact mirrorless lenses (E/L)

Shiguma strikes again with a new line-up of lenses, the I-series. These are mirrorless-exclusive full-frame compact-priority lenses and they are coming out for the Sony E and Leica L 35mm-full-frame mirrorless systems. The three lenses are:

+ 35mm f2 DG DN for $639
+ 65mm f2 DG DN for $699

Initially at least, the prices are the same, there is no “Leica tax”. Of course prices can change over time, eg the E-system lenses getting discounted but not the Leica [pure speculation of course].

FREE (by mail) Sigma 45mm f2.8 L-lens with Panasonic S5 PreOrder/Purchase

This is not a Labor Day deal, but I haven’t posted about it yet, so this is a good time to post it! If you are planning to pre-order/purchase the Panasonic S5 full-frame mirrorless camera by 9/30/20, and you are willing to do some e-paperwork, Panasonic-Sigma will send you by mail [once you complete the predefined tasks] a Sigma 45mm f2.8 L-system lens for FREE! This is the first time as far as I can recall when you buy a camera from Manufacturer X and you receive a free lens from Manufacturer Y 🙂

Anyway, the Panasonic S5 body only is available for pre-order for $1999 at B&H Photo and Adorama, both reputable and authorized dealers, and they both mention this promotion explicitly on their website and include a PDF file of the terms and conditions.

A copy of the receipt and the barcode of the camera are among the items needed in order to get the freebie. One gift per purchase and up to two free gifts per person. The gifts will be handed out in purchase-time order. The PDF even includes an email for questions…

PS1: the offer is also available if you purchase the Panasonic S5 with Panasonic 20-60mm f3.5-5.6 S kit for $2298 from B&H Photo and Adorama… This is not a bad starter kit, with a zoom and the Sigma prime by mail arriving later on…

PS2: the offer is not mentioned at the Amazon website. To be safe, for these type of offers, it’s better to go with the camera-centric retailers because they are more organized with the offers, and your claim cannot get caught up in “you bought from an Amazon 3rd-party seller” nonsense…
