It is the weekend, among along with it comes another Canon USA store sale that includes a number of refurbished Canon SLR Lenses. The ones on sale have their price shown in “red cyber ink”. Among them:

Canon CarePAK Offer extended until 7/31/16

Canon’s free 13-month CarePAK (free accidental damage protection for select registered products) has been extended until the end of July 2016. You can learn about the plan at Canon’s website and you can see a list of eligible Canon DSLRs and Lenses for this promotion at B&H Photo. Eligible items include the full frame DSLRs, the 7D Mark II, and a few lenses. You have to manually register for the promotion after purchase though, it does not activate automatically.

Refurbished Canon DSLR Lens Sale w/1yr warranty

If you are interested in refurbished Canon SLR lenses that come with a 1-year warranty from Canon, they have a sale on a number of them (the ones on sale have a price in red ink) at the official Canon Outlet store. Unlike Amazon, the Canon Outlet store won’t let you buy out of stock items, so it’s finders keepers for these type of deals.

You can sort price (high or low) or alphabetical (either direction) or by “recommended”. You can also increase the items per view to up to 72 if you are on a bigger screen and computer with enough power to handle a bigger page.

For the risk takers out there, the eBay Deals have an imported lens at a big discount, with just a 30-day seller’s warranty. It is the new condition imported grey-market white-box Canon EF-S 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS STM offered for $229 with free shipping with a limit of five per customer by eBay seller “Red Tag Camera” (99.9%). It ships from Brooklyn (NY) with over 600 units sold from this listing per the eBay data over there.

White box typically is when they take a lens out of a DSLR kit. Typically Lens + DSLR kits sell for less than buying them separately, and imported gear sell for less than authorized dealer gear. So there’s a double discount on this, the imported discount and the disassembling the kit discount.

Speaking of eBay, the Star Wars The Force Awakens BluRay + DVD + Digital set continues to sell for $17 with free shipping and free returns by Target’s eBay store. Over 11,500 units sold so far.

Imported No-Warranty Canon 18-135mm IS STM for $229

Back to the eBay Deals, for the more adventurous shoppers, there is a white-box imported grey-market lens without any warranty, it is offered by Get It Digital’s eBay store (99.6%). Ooops, the lens, the lens is the new condition Canon 18-135mm f3.5-5.6 IS STM going for $229 with free shipping with a limit of five per customer.

White box usually means it was part of a kit, but sold separately. If I put on my Miss Maple hat, this is probably how it came to be: they import Canon APS-C DSLRs with 18-135mm kits. Then they remove the lenses from the DSLR boxes, and sell the DSLRs as body-onlies on their own (“onlies” is plural of “only”), and the Lenses on their own.

So that’s why the price is so much lower, it’s an imported item without a warranty. Over 1300 units got sold so far, so there are a lot of people willing to take the risk, but again, don’t decide based on price alone. If the thought of potential future problems with lenses without warranty keeps you up at night, mayhaps it’s not worth the extra stress. We blog, you decide!

Canon CarePak 13-month FREE Accident Insurance Offer extended for Eligible purchases made up to 2/27/16 (19 Canon DSLRs and Lenses Eligible)

The Canon CarePak 13-month FREE Accident Insurance for some of their camera gear has now been extended for purchases of eligible products made until 2/27/16. A total of 19 Canon DSLRs and Lenses are eligible. You have to manually activate the 13-month free insurance using the serial number of your product through the Canon Carepak website. Also part of the featured eBay Deals, the GetItDigital (99.5%) eBay store is offering the new condition white box Canon 18-135mm f3.5-5.6 IS STM for $229 with free shipping with a limit of five per customer. There is no mention of warranty in the listing, but it says it is a “white box” lens with all accessories included. Assume this is an imported/grey-market since it doesn’t specify, and does not have a UPC (since it was probably separated from a DSLR kit). Nearly 1200 units got sold as of the time of writing.
