New round of Olympus M43 Lens Instant Savings

Olympus has a new round of instant savings on various M43rds lenses of their own brand. They are marked with a caramel-y “SALE” sign. They also earn Points as part of the Get Olympus Rewards program. The rewards are on the list price of a lens, not their sale price. For example, 12-40/2.8 lists for $1000, is on sale for $800, but you still earn 1000 rewards points. Some potential questions about their rewards program is answered in their FAQ page.

Olympus E-M5 w/14-42mm Elite with free Oben Tripod w/Ball head for $500

Olympus E-M5 body only for $600

When we posted the Mirrorless Price Chart at the end of 2014, the price of the Olympus E-M5 body only was $1000. Fast forward to now (*gasp* it’s 2.5 months later, where did all the time go? *gasp*) and the E-M5 body only is down to $600 with free shipping at Amazon by Amazon itself (limit 2 per color) and B&H Photo (with 4% reward = $24) and Adorama (with 4% reward = $24) and Best Buy upon eBay and Nuevo Huevo.

One of the reasons the E-M5 is down to $600 is because the new E-M5 II has been revealed with an early-adopter price of $1100 (pre-orders at Amazon et al).

Pre-order time for Olympus. They have revealed a brand new E-M-series cameras, the new E-M5 II body only with a 16mp LiveMOS sensor, 10fps, 3″ tilting LCD, dust/splash-proofness, and more. The starting price is $1100 and it is available for pre-order, in black or silver color-schemes, at Adorama and B&H Photo and Amazon itself.

The E-M5 II also gets its very own underwater housing, model PT-EP13, with a pre-order price of $1000, and the HLD-8 Power Battery Holder with a pre-order price of $280.

Also new is the M.Zuiko ED 14-150mm f4-5.6 II Lens, dust and splashproof, with a pre-order price of $600 at B&H Photo and Adorama.

Olympus XZ2 returns Jan-27 but for $253

The previous Olympus XZ2 new condition price was around $213. It is now back at Amazon [corrected link] with a January 27 (2015) in-stock estimate for $253… Check Serious Fixed Lens Camera Price Charts for price reference.

Strategically, it’s the same thing as usual: if you need it now vs if you don’t need it now. In the future, there will be more cameras and more discounts and more sales and more options (other things equal).
