No Pre-Orders Yet: new Sigma ART 105/1.4 and 70/2.8 MACRO

Sigma revealed two new ART series Prime lenses but they are not available for pre-ordering yet. However, B&H Photo has created a introductory pages for them with all their currently available details. They are:

+ Sigma 70mm f/2.8 DG Macro Art for Canon, Nikon, Sony E (not A) and Sigma

These too have been added to the New Lenses of 2018 page. We definitely had a lot more lenses than cameras so far in 2018 🙂

No Pre-Orders yet: new Canon D-Rebel T7 and 4000D

DSLRs have just scored two goals thanks to Canon! Canon revealed two entry-level Digital Rebels this week, the D-Rebel T7 (2000D), a follow-up to the good old T6, and an even more entry-level model, the 4000D which so far has only been announced in Europe. The D-Rebel T7 with come out with the 18-55 kit lens and a starting price of $550. Pre-orders are not accepted (not that anyone should pre-order them at this price).

Nevertheless, DSLRs will take any and all new models at the moment as they are trailing mirrorless cameras 7-3 among the New Cameras of 2018.

(ENDED) Used Nikon D850 body only for $2800 w/free S&H

As of a 7:22pm ET recheck, the eBay listing has ended/closed… For the big picture, check the Stock Status Tracker

To the Land of eBay we go with what looks like a higher risk purchase than a retail purchase, so if you are risk-averse you may want to skip this. eBay seller “Smart Pawn Shopper” (99.8%, Southern California) is offering a used Nikon D850 body only for $2800 with free shipping. The listing has pictures of the actual camera and a list of what’s included. They also have “Make Offer” enabled. Check the listing and the seller in detail before buying if interested. Again, this is a higher risk purchase, so if the chance of problems keeps you up at night, just avoid it 🙂

Pentax K-1 Getting $550 Optional Upgrade with K-1 II Internals

Putting to shame larger camera manufacturers, Pentax announced that existing Pentax K-1 photographers (this is a two year old camera, announced February 2016 [see New Cameras of 2016]) won’t be left behind! They are offering an optional $550 hardware upgrade to the K-1 that will give it the K-1 II internals. The service will be provided by the trusty Precision Camera of Austin::Texas between May 21 and September 30 in 2018. The service won’t be available before or after this date range. Details at the press release which describes the changes as follows (with more details as we get closer to upgrade time):

“The PENTAX K-1’s main circuit board will be replaced to add new functions featured in the new PENTAX K-1 MKII. Additionally the current SR logo on the PENTAX K-1 MKII will be replaced with the new PENTAX K-1 MKII logo.”

Speaking of the upcoming K-1 II, Amazon itself is now accepting pre-orders for $2000 but unlike Adorama and B&H Photo, Amazon does not currently include the Pentax D-BG6 for FREE with pre-orders. Eventually the Amazon AI Bots may wake up and add it but for now, it’s not included.

It will be interesting to see what this upgrade option will do to the used prices of the Pentax K-1, since the Upgrade optional increases the value potential of the camera. However, the four month upgrade window further complicates things since there is a cut-off point. The lowest used price as of the time of writing is $1600 in “Used – Condition 10” at B&H Photo and “Like New Minus” at KEH Camera. Amazon’s own Warehouse Deals (not 3rd-party sellers there) offers it for $1428 but no warranty (KEH offers 180 days, B&H 90 days). Warehouse Deals offers a 30-day satisfaction guarantee only. Mayhaps some Options Trading technology may be needed to figure this one out 🙂

72 Hour NewEgg Sale includes imported Sigma 17-50/2.8 EX DC OS HSM FLD (EF) for $280

If you are a fan of The Way of the Egg, NewEGG has launched another 72 hour sale. As usual, some of the offers may require a promo code (it will tell you on the page), and most of the time you’ll have to give them an email address in order to use the promo code. Which is kinda goofy since you need an email address to create an account and buy things, but what do I know? 🙂

They feature the usual assortment of computer accessories, hardware, software and so forth AND one lens, the new condition imported grey-market Sigma 17-50mm f/2.8 EX DC OS HSM FLD in the Canon EF option for $280 with free shipping, sold by RedTag Camera through NewEgg (ships directly from RedTag Camera). This particular sale ends on Saturday night. Of interest especially if you have NewEgg promotional gift cards waiting to get spent (they only last one year from the time they are issued; not to be confused with regular gift cards which don’t expire).

In new condition at authorized Shiguma dealers, this lens goes for $369, eg Adorama with free lens-y accessories.

Pre-order new Tamron 70-210mm f4 Di VC USD [C/N]

F4 constant aperture zooms are often trade-offs many photographers are willing to make over f2.8 constant aperture zooms. This has been added to the New Lenses of 2018 tracking page…

Pre-order new Rokinon SP 50mm f1.2 for $999 (EF only)

Rokinon strikes again with a manual prime lens under their “SP” tag, it is the SP 50mm f1.2 lens available only in the Canon EF with a starting price of $999 and available for pre-ordering at B&H Photo

This should not be confused with the non-SP existing Rokinon 50mm f1.2 mirrorless system lens which is available in M43, Fuji X, Canon EF-M and Sony E starting at $380. Mayhaps it went on sale to celebrate the arrival of the SP? 🙂

This has been added to the New Lenses of 2018 tracking page…

Yesterday we completed the 35mm Full Frame Price Charts write-up. Now the process has began for the APS-C DSLRs version with the price-checking round!

The silver KP is not eligible for this promotion, but you can purchase it together with four different Pentax lenses for a combined purchase discount. You can see them all at the main Pentax KP listing at B&H Photo.

Imported Nikon D850 w/1-YR Seller Warranty drops to $3200

I just updated the new line-up of the Stock Status Tracker (with the Fuji X-H1 added, the X100F and GH5 removed) and we have a greed price war on the imported Nikon D850 body only front. “Deals All Year” went greedy and skyrocketed their prices from $3240 to $3800, but they just got undercut by another imported, 6ave on eBay is offering the new condition imported grey market with a 1-year seller (not Nikon USA) warranty for $3200 with free shipping, with a maximum of three per customer. The new condition price at authorized Nikon USA dealers is $3300.

PS: if you need a full frame Nikon DSLR now, want the D850 but the waiting is driving you mad, there are some good deals on other refurbished Nikon DSLRs that can keep you going until/unless the D850 becomes available. You won’t lose as much money selling/trading a refurbished DSLR (or you can keep it as a backup).

Canon 6D II Body + BG-E21 Battery Grip for $1899

We already mentioned a couple of days ago that the Canon 6D is down to $999 and with your choice of a useful freebie but that’s not the only camera with useful freebies…

A couple of 3rd-party sellers at Amazon, the most recognizable of which being Cameta Camera are offering the Canon 6D II body only bundled with the BG-E21 Battery Grip for $1900, that’s the body only price without the battery grip at most authorized Canon USA dealers.

Canon 1D X II Body with Flashpoint Zoom R2 TTL On-Camera Flash and 64GB Extreme PRO CF and Takama Tripod/Monopod Kit and more for $5500

The Canon 1D X Mark II body only is down $200 since our November 2017 price charts, but that’s not all. It is also getting a handful of useful freebies at Adorama including their house brand Flashpoint Zoom Li-on R2 TTL On-Camera Flash Speedlight (which goes for $179 on its own), along with the following freebies:

+ Takama Flip-Zip Multi-Functional Photo Tripod Monopod Kit
+ 64GB Sandisk Extreme PRO Compact Flash
+ new Corel software bundle (four titles including After Shot and PSP)
+ 24/7 Messenger Bag
+ intervalometer and release cable
+ card wallet and cleaning kit

Refurbished Nikon D610 body w/90D W for $1040

As you can tell by today’s posts so far, the first round of price-checking for the Price Charts is the 35mm Full Frame Cameras (iLC or Fixed Lens). The Nikon D610 body only goes for $1500 at authorized Nikon USA dealers, but if you are willing to the manufacturer refurbished, you can pay just over 2/3rds of that, going for $1040 with free shipping at Adorama with a 90-day Nikon USA warranty.

Refurbished Nikon D810 Body w/90D W for $1900

If you are going to get the Nikon D810, since it is no longer the latest model [that’s the elusive Nikon D850 – see Stock Status Tracker], you might as well go the way of the refurbished and save a significant amount of money.

The new condition Nikon D810 body only goes for $2800 at authorized dealers, but if you go the manufacturer refurbished route, you can get it for $1900 with free shipping at Adorama with a 90-day Nikon USA warranty. That’s $900 less!

PS: “90D” is short for 90 days, “W” is short for Warranty. I am trying to keep blog-post titles one line with the desktop/laptop view. If they go for more than one line, they’d better fill up the second line, otherwise they are eating up space.

Nikon D810A gone from B&H and Adorama but still available

Another disappearing act! The Nikon D810A is no longer available for purchase from B&H Photo and Adorama, but if you still want to get it in new condition from an authorized dealer Amazon itself has it for its normal price of $3800 with a maximum of three per customer. It is in the all-encompassing “temporarily out of stock” shipping estimate though.

Nikon D5 Anniversary gone from B&H, but still available elsewhere

The time is right in the year for a brand new Price Charts series to begin! I have began doing the spreadsheet work and price-checking! This will continue for this week (other things equal) and you may see an increase in deals/posts featuring the cameras that are tracked in the Price Charts as the price-checks surface different kinds of deals directly or indirectly.

If you want to re-familiarize yourself with the Price Charts series, this link shows all previous editions (going back to December 2014).

The first thing that surfaced is the Nikon D5 Anniversary edition is starting to run out. The camera is marked Discontinued and unorderable at B&H Photo but it remains in-stock at Adorama for the five of you that may interested in it 🙂 Amazon itself still has it as “not yet released” but it’s still available for $8000 by Adorama and Unique Photo thru Amazon. Paying for this with an Amazon Prime VISA or Prime Store Card gets you a 5% statement credit, which in this case it’s a pretty nice $400 amount!

PS: if you are having a bit of a deja vu, that’s because three days ago we posted a similar day for the refurbished D750 for $1200 also by BuyDIG upon eBAY.

The new condition price at authorized Nikon USA dealers is $3300.

As far as the other tracked cameras, it is status quo. Both the Sony a7r III and Panasonic G9 are steadily available at authorized dealers, although individual sellers may go in and out.

On a meta note, this is the last time we have the Fuji X100S in the Stock Tracker. The camera has been steady in prices, both used and new for a while now, so it will be retired. However, I am saving the entries, so if something happens that necessitates its return, it will be very easy to bring it back!

IF there are any other cameras or lenses you’d like to see tracked, please leave a comment here or at the Stock Tracker or the online contact form

It looks like the Sigma is not on sale, while the Canon is sold out…

Tamron SP 24-70mm f/2.8 DI VC USD with FREE Hoya 82mm Filter + $32 Rewards for $799 [C/N]

I couldn’t decide between a tummy and a Tammy Wynette intro for this deal, so let’s just pretend I wrote something funny and move on to the deal 🙂

The new condition Tamron SP 24-70mm f/2.8 DI VC USD Lens is bundled with a FREE Hoya 82mm UV Haze NXT HMC Filter and 4% promotional rewards (about $32 to be spent in future purchases) at B&H Photo in your choice of Canon or Nikon systems.

Note that the lens on sale is the first generation. The latest model is the G2 from Tamron which goes for $1199 in Canon and Nikon (without rewards or free Hoya filter).

I’m sure Pentax and Sony A shooters would love an $800 lens of this kind as well but is only a Canikon lens 🙁 At least the Pentax 24-70mm f2.8 is $1100, unlike Canon and Nikon who double or triple that amount.
