Ten Tips to Help Paranoid Shoppers Prepare for Amazon’s hyped Prime Day (July 15)

Amazon rarely hypes things like this, so it is possible we will get some good deals during their upcoming Prime Day on Wednesday July 15 in 2015. We won’t know until things start rolling out at 3am ET on Wednesday. Who knows, perhaps they are doing this as a giant stress test – to see how “elastic” their cloud is? 🙂 Regardless, here are some tips that could potentially help you prepare for the excitement/disappointment of July 15:

To be on the safe side, don’t wait until the last minute to sign up. Back to the land of always winter, aka eBay Deals, where we find another import (grey market) trade-off. eBay seller “GetItDigital” (99.8%) is offering the new condition imported grey market Canon 7D II body only for $1200 with free shipping and a one year warranty from GetItDigital, not from Canon USA. Limit five per customer with over 700 units sold from this eBay listing.

In comparison, at authorized Canon dealers, this goes for $1500 such as Adorama and B&H Photo which offer a few free accessories each along with 2% promotional rewards (= $30~). Amazon itself is stingy on the bundles but it offers 0% 12-month financing with their Store credit card and potentially 5% rewards for Prime members who apply and get approved for the Prime version of their Store card (5% = $75 in statement credit). As usual with credit offers, read terms and conditions carefully, ask them questions if something is not clear, and do some financial planning to make sure such offers will have a net benefit to you in the long run.
