Heads Up: Panasonic GH5 Live Discussion Panel (and $100 gift card with Filmmaker kit)

To celebrate the upcoming release of the new Panasonic GH5, B&H Photo is planning a GH5 Live Stream Discussion Panel on Wednesday 3/29/17 1pm Eastern time. The timing is good, because it’s two hours after the Samsung Unpacked live-streaming event that will reveal the Galaxy S8 flagships.

As part of the festivities of the GH5 event, B&H Photo is bundling a $100 B&H Photo gift card with pre-orders of the GH5 Film Maker’s Kit for $2870. This kit goes for $870 more than the standard GH5 kit and includes four Panasonic accessories (official Battery Grip, DMW-XLR1 XLR Microphone Adapter, AC adapter, DC coupler), along with the $100 gift card.

April 1st: Amazon will collect sales-tax in all states who require it

Starting April 1st in 2017, Amazon will collect sales tax on all states that collect sales tax. It is already doing so in the vast majority of the states, but with this latest group, it will complete the puzzle. It will obviously not collect sales tax in states where sales tax is not collected (Oregon, Alaska, etc). Details via CNBC.

But because things are never quite as simple, there is a distinction, for tax collection purposes, between products sold and shipped by Amazon (they collect taxes) and products sold by 3rd-party sellers through the Amazon website. The latter category is still up in the air as literally any and every person on earth (and beyond) can be an Amazon seller.

New Canon Two-Lens Bundle coming

Camera manufacturers have “(re)discovered” bundling! Canon has a brand new lens bundle, one prime, one zoom, and they are offered together, the 50mm f1.4 and the 17-40mm f4L, available for pre-order at B&H Photo for $1200. This however is NOT a good price as it stands, because the lenses can be purchased individually $330 (50mm f1.4) and $750 (17-40mm f4L). I suspect the bundle price will be adjusted when it gets closer to release, because $1200 is the list price of each lens before the seasonal “instant savings” promotions.

eBay is on the attack again! This time they have a new non-targeted coupon code, coupon code C20FLASH gets you 20% off products offered by 42 eBay sellers, a mix of known (BackCountry, eBags, VM Innovations, WW Stereo, Red Tag Camera, Samsonite, etc) and unknown sellers.

The coupon expires Monday March 27 (2017) at 11:59pm pacific time. Minimum price for eligible items from eligible sellers is $25. MMaximum discount received is $50 (in other words, purchase amount that can be discounted capped at $250 [CORRECTED MATH!]).

eBay created listings for different categories of eligible products from eligible sellers. The Camera and Photo listings have over 1000 items, while the Digital Cameras sub-category has over 600 items.
