The daily deal expired, as of 2/15/15, the Canon 60D with 18-135mm goes for $900 at Amazon by Amazon herself…
This daily deal expired… The new condition Canon D-Rebel T5 with 18-55mm is offered for $333 as the deal of the day at meh.com, founded by former Woots. The page goes into an unfiltered discussion of MAP pricing, which, even if not interested in the camera, makes for an interesting read 🙂 Thanks to one of our readers for the alert!
The new Canon 5DS DSLR duo is the biggest and most expensive new camera of 2015 so far. However, pre-orders are not accepted just yet. Amazon’s estimate says you will be able to pre-order it on 4/30/15. B&H Photo’s page estimates the camera will be available in June 2015. Adorama has a June estimate as well. Needless to say, this is too early, more details and more specifics will become available as we get closer to actual release. In a tech world of near-instant gratification, waiting for months before one can pre-order can feel a bit unusual.
The new Canon D-Rebel T6s and T6i dSLRs already have pre-order deals. If you pre-order one of the Canon T6s kits or one of the Canon T6i kits, within 72 hours after shipment of the camera (shipment, not order), a $50 promotional credit will be automatically applied to your Amazon account. The promotional credit can only be used towards the purchase of these these accessories (16GB or 32GB or 64GB Sandisk Extreme SDHC, AmazonBasics camera bags and tripods). The terms and conditions over there have all the details. As usual, all eligible items must be sold and shipped by Amazon itself, not 3rd-party sellers.
Canon is back with another serious SLR lens, the Canon EF 11-24mm f4L, with a pre-order price of $3000 at Adorama and B&H Photo and Amazon itself.
Tokina has revealed a new APS-C DSLR, the 11-20mm f2.8 DX available in the Canon and Nikon SLR mounts for $600, with pre-orders at Adorama. Tokina also has a new Cinema 50-135mm T3.0 for the same mounts, with a cinematography preorder price of $4500 at Adorama.
For 2015, we are keeping track of only interesting new cameras and lenses in this Interesting Cameras of 2015 Reference post. Keep in mind, we are now out of the breaking news cycle, so that reference post will not be updated the moment a new camera or lens is announced.
The Canon 1D C body only is now down to $8000 with free shipping at B&H Photo. Please note this is not returnable! It’s interesting how just one letter change in the model name had previously doubled the price of the 1D X 🙂
More eBay Deals action, if you are comfortable with imported (non-USA warranty) double-figure lenses, the new condition Canon 50mm f1.8 II is offered for $85 with free shipping by Red Tag Camera on eBay (99.9%) with a limit of five per buyer. Over 1000 of these primes got sold through this listing. The simplicity of a prime lens and the low price perhaps may make this a low/lower risk import/grey-market purchase.
Speaking of eBay, Adorama’s eBay store is offering the new condition 22-inch Dell E2215HV computer monitor for $100 with free shipping with a limit of five per buyer.
The various mail-in rebates (MIR) and instant savings of Canon (see PDF MIR form) and Nikon (instant savings, not MIR) and Sony (instant savings, not MIR) expire on 1/31/15. You can find them all at the aforelinked Adorama pages. I don’t know what happens after 1/31/15. Sometimes they get extended, sometimes they change, sometimes they take a break and return later.
These offers are also available at B&H Photo with a 1/31/15 expiration: Canon DSLRs and Lenses along with Nikon DSLR gear and Sony gear.
If you are a fan of f2.8 SLR zooms, Tamron has 1200 new reasons to empty your wallet with the new 15-30mm f2.8 Di VC USD, available in the Canon, Nikon, and Sony Alpha SLR mounts. It is available for pre-order for $1200 at Adorama (with 4% promotional rewards = $48) and B&H Photo.
The two Canon Cinema C100 EOS body only video cameras have dropped $1000! The Dual Pixel CMOS AF body only now goes for $4500, while the non-DualPixel body only goes for $4000. Please note that these cameras are NOT returnable.

+ 6D body only bundle for $1250 after $650 MIR

+ Canon 5D Mark III w/24-70mm f4L IS for $3200 after $650 MIR
If you are cool with mail-in rebates and prepaid gift cards, Adorama has this Canon 70D body only bundle that includes the Pixma Pro 100 printer and 50pk Canon 13×19″ photo paper for $800 after a $350 mail-in rebate (prepaid American Express gift card). The picture also shows a camera bag and SDHC card but those are not listed in the product description, so assume they won’t be included.
The Canon EF-S 17-85mm f4-5.6 IS USM lens is now down to $300 with free shipping at B&H Photo and at Amazon by Amazon itself (limit 2).
If you are looking to buy the new Canon 7D Mark II and you also need/want Lightroom 5, Buydig is offering it for free as a bundle, along with a 64GB SD card and 4% promotional rewards on both the Canon 7D Mark II body only ($1800) and the 7D Mark II with 18-135mm IS STM ($2150). Offers end by 1/31/15. The free items are included automatically by BuyDig. If you are not familiar with how to spot them, you can find an annotated example in the earlier Canon 6D post.
If you want both the Canon 6D body only and the Lightroom 5 software (full version, not upgrade), you can get them together for $1500 after the usual $300 prepaid American Express Mail-In Rebate, along with a 64GB SDHC card and 4% promotional rewards at Buydig.com which is an authorized Canon dealer. Offers end 1/31/15. The mail-in rebate (MIR) is the standard MIR promotion from Canon, it is not linked to the Lightroom promotion. Optionally you can buy it together with eligible Pixma printers for bigger rebates. If you are not familiar with where BuyDig mentions these offers, here is a poorly annotated screenshot crop below to help you pinpoint it quickly…
If you are fond of lots of camera accessories, and also need the Canon D-Rebel T5 w/18-55, BuyDig has a Canon T5 w/18-55 Accessories Hoarder bundle for $500. It includes the standard T5 w/18-55 kit plus the following accessories: two converter lenses (2x tele, .45x wide), Vivitar slave flash, three filter kit with case, another UV filter, 59-inch tripod, mini tabletop tripod, gadget bag, wrist strap, wireless shutter release control, one 16GB and one 8GB SD cards, card reader, memory card wallet, lens cap keeper, and of course the obligatory cleaning kit 🙂 Offer ends 1/14/15.
For photographers interested in both the Canon 6D dSLR and the 24-105mm f3.5-5.6 IS STM lens, Canon has a brand new official 6D kit, the 6D with 24-105mm available for pre-order for $2200 with free shipping at Adorama and Amazon. No release estimate at the moment.
The Canon EF 100-400mm f4.5-5.6L IS II USM Lens is in-sotck at B&H Photo for $2200 with free shipping. B&H will be accepting orders again Saturday PM.
The current iteration of the Nikon Instant Rebates and Canon Instant and Mail-In Rebates are expiring on January 3 in 2015 and won’t be extended in their current iteration.
If of all the Canon D-Rebel options out there, it is the D-Rebel T5 the one you want, the two lens kit, with the 18-55 and 75-300mm lenses along with a free camera bag and free SDHC memory card is going for $500 at Amazon by Amazon itself (limit 3) and B&H Photo. No coupons needed, just add to cart and checkout… The T5 w/18-55 kit goes for $450… The two lens kit with the 55-250mm instead of the 75-300 goes for $600…
NOTE: this is the T5 entry-level DSLR, not to be confused with the more advanced T5i.
The latest action in the eBay Deals includes the new condition but very likely not-USA-warranty Canon 50mm f1.8 II lens offered for $93 with free shipping, with a limit of five per customer, by eBay seller RedTagCamera (99.9%). There is no mention of warranty in the listing and the seller is not an authorized Canon dealer (as far as I can tell), so assume this is imported or something similar.
Since this is a low priced simple prime lens, for some people, this may be a reasonable risk… At authorized Canon dealers, this goes for $105 after a $20 mail-in rebate (eg Adorama, B&H Photo).
If you are comfortable with used DSLRs (used; not refurbished), B&H Photo has a special promotion on various used Canon 7D kits, going for $580 (8+ condition) and $620 (9 condition). Used quantities are typically more limited than new condition products.
The refurbished Canon 24-105mm f4L IS lens was going for $750 when we started the Deals Situation Room but as of a recheck right now, the price is down to $700 with free shipping at Adorama.
If you are interested in the Canon 5D Mark III and also DSLR audio/video, Adorama has these three Canon 5D Mark III bundles that come with a free Tascam DR-70D recorder (goes for $300 on its own). Free accessories are included as well. The mail-in rebate you see there is the usual Canon DSLR mail-in rebate promotion on the Canon 5D IIIs.
