One may need to set aside half a day (exaggeration alert) to navigate the clumsy and plodding Canon USA outlet website but if you plod through like a fullback in spring practice, you may find some good offers. For example, if you are interested in the latest D-Rebel T6S with the 18-135mm IS STM lens (instead of the 18-55), you can get that in manufacturer refurbished condition with a 1-year warranty for $750.
On the other hand, if you prefer a two-lens kit, you can get it with the 18-135 IS STM and 55-250 IS STM with a 1-year warranty on everything for $830. So $80 more gets you the 55-250mm lens.
But wait, there’s more! In addition the D-Rebel T5i w/18-55 going for $350, the price has also dropped for the refurbished Canon D-Rebel T5i w/18-55 IS STM and 55-250 IS II with a 1-year warranty from $450 to $400 at Canon USA Outlet.
Price drop! The refurbished Canon D-Rebel T5i w/18-55 IS STM with a one year Canon USA warranty was going for $400 at the Canon USA Outlet but as of the time of writing, this dropped to $350. Other than this being an older DSLR in terms of “smartphone features”, this is a pretty good “take pictures with” starter kit, given the price and the 1-year warranty.
UPDATE: the D-Rebel T5i two-lens kit (18-55 IS STM and 55-250 IS II) also dropped in price, from $450 to $400 as of the time of writing.
