Imported Canon 7D II body only for $1200

Back to the land of always winter, aka eBay Deals, where we find another import (grey market) trade-off. eBay seller “GetItDigital” (99.8%) is offering the new condition imported grey market Canon 7D II body only for $1200 with free shipping and a one year warranty from GetItDigital, not from Canon USA. Limit five per customer with over 700 units sold from this eBay listing.

In comparison, at authorized Canon dealers, this goes for $1500 such as Adorama and B&H Photo which offer a few free accessories each along with 2% promotional rewards (= $30~). Amazon itself is stingy on the bundles but it offers 0% 12-month financing with their Store credit card and potentially 5% rewards for Prime members who apply and get approved for the Prime version of their Store card (5% = $75 in statement credit). As usual with credit offers, read terms and conditions carefully, ask them questions if something is not clear, and do some financial planning to make sure such offers will have a net benefit to you in the long run.

Canon 6D body only for $1100 (no mention of warranty)

Back to the eBay Deals we go where RedTag Camera (99.9%) is offering the new condition Canon 6D body only for $1100 with free shipping. Limit five per buyer. Over 300 units sold from this listing so far. There is no mention of warranty on the eBay listing.

This is what some call a “broken kit”, not broken physically but virtually:

“The Canon 6D camera Body for sale is 100% Brand New, Never Used. Lens has been removed from Kit box and sold on a separate auction.”

If you don’t feel comfortable with the above, the 6D body only goes for $1400 with Canon USA warranty and various extra accessories at Adorama and B&H Photo and Amazon itself.

If you are looking for something in-between, Adorama has an open-box Canon 6D for $1280 but no freebies and no promotional rewards. Their open box includes the one year Canon USA warranty.

Imported Canon 1D X for $4000

If you are comfortable getting flagship cameras as imported grey-marked, among the latest eBay Deals, seller GetItDigital (99.6%) is offering the new condition imported grey market Canon 1D X body only for $4000 with free shipping and $80 eBay Bucks (if you are a member of ebay’s free rewards program). Limit 5 per customer. Over 230 units sold from this listing. Again, note this is imported, the one year warranty is provided by the seller GetItDigital, not Canon USA!

At authorized Canon dealers, this goes for $5300 but you get some free accessories. For example at Adorama you get a free 128GB CompactFlash and two extra batteries, while at B&H Photo you get a different set of freebies. You also get 2% promotional rewards (=$106~).

If you don’t hate mail-in rebates, Adorama has the usual 1D X Pixma Pro 100 bundle with the usual extras for $5300 after $250 MIR (prepaid AMEX gift card, not check).

Amazon itself is stingy on the freebies, but if you qualify for their Store Credit Card (not the Chase VISA), you can get a 12-month 0% APR financing (you have to make equal installment payments and pay in full by the end of the 12 months in order to avoid interest. They have long Terms and Conditions.

So the trade-offs is $4000 without Canon USA warranty vs $5300 with Canon USA warranty and extra accessories or financing.

If you are a fan of grey areas, you may also be a fan of grey market (imported) camera gear 😉 Among the latest eBay Deals, eBay Seller “Get It Digital” (99.5%) is offering the new condition Canon 5D Mark III with 24-105mm f4L IS for $2600 with free shipping, with a limit of one per customer. This does NOT come with a Canon USA warranty. Instead, the seller GetItDigital offers a similar warranty of their own.

As usual, the trade-off of $500 vs USA warranty and free accessories is up to each individual to make based on their own preferences and circumstances and such.

The new condition price from authorized Canon USA dealers is $1700 with some free accessories and rewards at Adorama and B&H Photo. A difference of $500 is certainly not a small amount, but there are pros and cons to getting an imported camera, and ultimately that is a personal decision one must needs make based on their individual circumstances.
