This is a sell your own gear promotion, not a buy new/more gear! To celebrate Earth Day, KEH Camera is encouraging us all to sell them back any camera gear we have no use or interest in anymore. The encouragement comes in the form of a coupon: coupon code SYG4A gets you a bonus on the quoted amount depending on you decide to take your payment:

+ if you take cash (a check in the mail), you get a 5% bonus

+ if you select a trade-in bonus (think of it as KEH store credit), you get a 10% bonus.

In other words, let’s say through the years, you have given up on tilt-shift lenses, and you decide to sell your Fictitious 5mm f0.5 lens. Let’s say the initial KEH quote, based on your description and included accessories, is $1000. Using the coupon code, you will get $1050 if you select cash (check in the mail) OR you will get $1100 in KEH store credit to spend on future KEH purchases. Because that Fictitious 7mm f0.7 MACRO OIS DG AF-Z Typ-M you’ve had your eye on for the last seven years costs more than $1100 for sure ^_^

The promotion expires Sunday 4.28.19 at 11:59pm eastern time…

PS: I do not know if you can use this coupon more than once during this promotion, so if you have multiple items to sell, mayhaps wait until you can include them all in your sell.

PS2: if you are having a hard time deciding whether to go for cash or KEH store credit, look at your previous KEH purchases (how often do you buy, what gear, what price ranges, etc). Also look at what camera gear you are planning to buy in the next few months and then look at the KEH inventory to see whether the gear you may want to buy are actually available and at what prices and compare to prices from other sellers [considering included or not included warranties in the price].

PS3: note that KEH includes a 180-day warranty on camera gear in USED conditions “BGN” (bargain) and better (Excellent, Like New, etc). However gear in “UG” (Ugly) and “AS IS” and gear that are inoperable do not get a warranty [for obvious reasons]. Check their warranty page for all the details..

Western-facing Asian retailer Gear Best is having a weekend flash sale featuring a variety of products, including many Xiaomi and Vivo smartphones (including the Pocophone F1 for around $330), the Xiaomi Mi Air laptop for under $800, a mini cube camera for $10, a Huawei bluetooth selfie stick and more.

Note that these ship from China, and while the shipping fee is very low, the free or near-free shipping options will take a while. Which is fine if you are buying small accessories or non-fragile things, but if you’re gonna be a Pocophone or a Mi Air laptop, you probably don’t want it lingering in transit for a month 🙂

Woot Garage Sale

Woot is having another Garage sale. Think of it as a Woot-OFF but it happens horizontally in time instead of vertically. Not a perfect analogy, so let me simplify it: all the sale items are offered up immediately instead of a new one every few hours. This causes the more desirable items to sellout quickly, so it is a bit of a lottery ticket like Woot-OFFs.

Under Electronics, they had the Canon EF 70-200/2.8L IS II for $1260 with a 90-day Woot warranty with limit one per customer but it was sold-out when I noticed this new sale.

Under Computers, there’s a handful of Kindle Paperwhite e-readers of various generations in Scratch and Dent condition starting at $35. Reading is magical with e-readers, if you are reading text-only or text-mostly fiction and non-fiction.Not ideal for anime or engineering books or photography books or books full of pictures and such, but for text-only they are magical. Because reading is fun-da-mental!

PS: speaking of Canon, now I have to get in the habit of writing “EF” in Canon SLR lenses since they have their new full frame miRRoRless system 🙂
