Among the Monday Amazon Gold Box deals of the day there’s a photographer biography in the Kindle ebook format. It’s a relatively new book (September 2019) by Benjamin Moser, “Sontag: Her Life and Work” going for $3. You also get a $0.30 “Great on Kindle” store credit towards future “Great on Kindle” purchases within a preset time limit. The ebook is 793 pages long and averages 4.5 out of 5 based on 113 customer ratings as of the time of writing of this blog-post…

Speaking of Kindle related matters, if you want to try Kindle e-readers or want to refresh your older model, right now the entry-level Kindle is on sale for $60 (with Special Offers). It’s not your uncle’s entry-level Kindle though. Nowadays the entry-level Kindle has both a touchscreen and a built-in light. However, the screen is 167ppi… To get to 300ppi, you need to move to the triple-figure Paperwhite models…

PS: “Great on Kindle” are ebooks that are formatted in a way that read great on the Kindle. Sort of the exact opposite of a PDF file on the Kindle 🙂

If you want three or more magazines, this is a pretty good deal at the DiscountMAGS weekend sale, they have the return of the “3 for $12” offer. You get three 1-year magazine printed-subscriptions to-USA-addresses for the total of $12. If you want to add more than three, the additional cost is +$4 per magazine per year.

This includes the two photography printed-magazines have survived at DiscountMAGS, Outdoor Photographer (default sale price is $5/yr) and “Digital Photo PRO” (default sale price is $8).

Good until Thursday 6/4/20 at 11:59pm pacific time [I almost forgot to post it!], as one of the Amazon Kindle daily deals, you can get the 224-page Kindle ebook “Zen Camera” by David Ulrich for $1.99 but you also receive a $0.30 store credit towards future purchases of “Great on Kindle” ebooks. The store credit is applied automatically and expires automatically if not used.

The ebook averages 4.5 out of 5 based on 74 customer reviews. The price was right so I just purchased it but obviously I can’t read it and digest it and review it before the expiration time. I’m not a 32-core system after all, I’m just a Celeron 🙂

As the Zen in the title hints at, this is a blend of photography and (Westernized) Zen, so prepare for some spiritual materialism 😉

Still Good: “Analogue Photography: A Reference Manual for Shooting Film” by Andrew Bellamy for $3

UPDATE 4/10/20 at 12:43pm ET: as of this recheck, the $3 sale price continues for this ebook that was a Wednesday daily deal…

Everything old is new again! There’s a brand new book about shooting on film and it is one of the Amazon Wednesday ebook deals of the day, good until 11:59pm pacific time on 4/8/20. The author is Andrew Bellamy and the 192-page Princeton Architectural Press ebook is on sale for $3 for the Kindle. The ebook is titled “Analogue Photography: A Reference Manual for Shooting Film”…

The Kindle sample will show you the first few pages of the book (including the table of contents) but if you go the the paperback page and “Look Inside” you will be able to jump around inside the book.

There are a couple of international reviews on it (one UK, one Italy) while the only USA review is a two-word review titled “Beautiful Design” but with a 1-star rating. This type of confusion sadly is prevalent (for various reasons) at Amazon, where the text of the review does not match the star rating. In this case, this novice reviewer may have gotten confused because on the same day (Nov 30, 2019) he reviewed a physical product with a 1-star for which he wrote actual meaningful text that matched the review title of “Total Rip-Off”.

Regardless, you can return e-books if you don’t like them. You can go to amazon.com/myk and select “Digital”, locate the ebook you want to return, click on the dots and select “Return for Refund”. The return window for ebooks is one week (or something like that, I don’t recall the exact duration)…

Sunday Photography-related Novel: “The Age Of Light” for $3

There’s only so many photography how-to and camera user-manuals you can read. Sometimes you just want to read a novel that has some …photography in it. For example, the protagonists are photographers or some other related plots and twists and turns. Such is the case with one of Sunday’s Kindle ebook daily deals, it is the “The Age of Light” novel by Whitney Scharer (for the speed-readers out there, no, not Whitley Strieber) for $2.99. It is 385 pages, got published in February 2019, and averages 4.1 out of 5 based on 150+ customer ratings. This is biographical historical fiction, not a romance novel…
