Buy $25+ in Kindle eBooks, Get $6 promotional credit

As it is often the case during the BF/CM season, Amazon also has book-related offers. This time around, if you purchase $25+ in Kindle ebooks, you will receive a $6 Kindle promotional credit.

The Terms & Conditions describe the offer. The purchase window is November 21-28 in 2021, you don’t have to make a single $25+ purchase. The $6 promotional credit will be automagically emailed to you four days after you qualify for it, and it must be used 21 days after it is added to your account.

The good thing with this type of offer is that purchases made during the window count, regardless of when you activated the offer. So maybe you made $27 in purchases on November 21st but activated the offer on November 26, you still qualify for the bonus!

DiscountMags Black Friday

DiscountMAGs has also launched their Black Friday sales! Most of them are printed magazines delivered by USPS mail, but at the end of the list there are also some digital subscriptions delivered by Zinio, so do pay attention to each offer to make sure you are getting the delivery method you wish.

There’s one photography magazine, “Smart Photography” (6 issues per year, digital subscription by Zinio) for $6.07 per year… They also offer VideoMaker (print magazine) for $7.25 per year… Among others, Consumer Reports (print magazine) for $16 per year…

Elsewhere on Black Friday, Monoprice has launched their Black Friday deals where you can find more of the utilitarian kind of offers, such as low-price quality cables and such…

1-Year Consumer Reports (print) for $16

If you are a fan of the printed version of Consumer Reports, DiscountMAGS is offering a 1-year subscription for $16 as a limited time offer that runs until 11/24/21 at 11:59pm eastern time.

Rarely Discounted Magazine sale includes 1-year Camera (digital edition) for $10

The theme of this weekend’s DiscountMAGS sale is a rarely discounted premium titles. And surprisingly there’s a camera and photo magazine participating in the sale. It is a digital subscription (through Zinio) of “Camera”. The offer is a 1-year subscription (six issues) for $9.83 per year. Zinio typically does auto-renewal, unlike the printed magazines sold directly by DiscountMags.

Other participating magazines include:

+ printed magazines: various National Geographics, Consumer Reports, etc

+ Zinio digital magazines: MaximumPC, Popular Science, All About Space, etc

As this sale is a mix of print and digital, ALWAYS check each magazine’s offer before buying…

The offers typically run until Monday night…

eBook: “Sontag: Her Life and Work” for $3

The ebook Sontag: Her Life and Work by Benjamin Moser is on sale for $3 at Amazon for the Kindle. This is 793 pages, September 2019, published by Ecco [no, not the shoe company?]…

As of the time of writing this averages 4.6 out of 5 based on 221 ratings. This is part of a limited time Kindle sale but it is not part of the daily deals, so I do not know the exact expiration date of the offer…

DK Kindle ebook: The Physics Book: Big Ideas Simply Explained for $2 (694 pages)

Among the latest Kindle e-offerings is this nearly-700 page DK ebook, “The Physics Book: Big Ideas Simply Explained” offered for $2. You can “Look Inside” to get a feel for the book and listen to the Audible audiobook sample.

These are of course the big DK coffee-table style books, but this is an ebook, so given that, they are best read on bigger color screens if you want to enjoy the graphics and charts and pictures and such. But if you mostly care for the text, you can read it on the Kindle e-reader too.

As of the time of writing this averages 4.7 out of 5 based on 779 customer ratings.

The link to photography is of course light, plus the physics of camera and lens design and such.

I am tempted to get it after I go through the sample.

UPDATE: a few more of the Big Ideals Simply Explained ebooks are also on sale for $2 each including Ecology, Feminism, History, Religions, Classical Music, Crime Book, Shakespeare, Politics (or as Kinky Friedman called them, poly-ticks), etc. There are at least 20 ebooks in this DK series but only some of them are on sale…

PS: this may be the perfect excuse to justify getting a new 13-inch iPad. “Honey, I need a large screen iPad to read my science books!” 😉

PS2: I’m not sure if this is a daily deal or part of the longer running “Kindle deals” that may last from weeks to a month.

Friday: Digital Photography Complete Course: Learn Everything You Need to Know in 20 Weeks for $2

Good until Friday 9/3/21 at 11:59pm pacific time [ebooks do not run out, technical issues aside], for $2 you can have the “Digital Photography Complete Course: Learn Everything You Need to Know in 20 Weeks” ebook by DK, publication date January 2021, 359 pages.

You can take a look at the first pages of the ebook using the Kindle sample, or use the “Look Inside” feature on the webpage to jump around inside the ebook. This is a rich content/images/graphics ebook, best read on bigger tablets and computer screens…

As of the time of writing this is #1 in the Digital Photography ebooks category…

Among the other Friday Kindle daily deals they have of potential interest the How Asia Works: Success and Failure In the World’s Most Dynamic Region by Joe Studwell…

Saturday eBook: “The Secrets to Creating Amazing Photos: 83 Composition Tools from the Masters” for $2

A photography-learning ebook is among the Kindle daily deals running until Saturday August 14 in 2021 at 11:59pm pacific time! The book is The Secrets to Creating Amazing Photos: 83 Composition Tools from the Masters by Marc Silber going for $2. As of the time of writing it averages 4.3 out of 5 on nearly 200 customer reviews…

Of potential interest among the other 50+ Kindle daily deals is another $2 ebook, 100 Hoaxes & Mistakes That Fooled Science by the editors of Popular Science…

Multi-Year Sale returns at DiscoMAGS

The multi-year sale is the headline of this weekend’s (actually usually ends Monday night) DiscountMAGS sale. The more years you buy, the lower the price per year. A variety of magazines participate but there are no photo/video magazines in the sale. There are of course many “six degrees of separation” such as National Geographic, etc…

National Parks eBook: Leave Only Footprints for $2

If you are fond of the National Parks and nature and all that sticky and smelly stuff that you see when go outside {*GASP*), for a limited time Amazon is having a sale on the Random House “Leave Only Footprints: My Acadia-to-Zion Journey Through Every National Park” ebook by Conor Knighton going for $2.

This is 325 pages long. As of the time of writing it averages 4.7 out of 5 based on nearly 900 customer ratings and it is currently the #1 best seller in Travel Writing

This is a YMMV offer. I do not know if everyone is offered this, or some people…

Magazines for $4.80/yr such as Outdoor Photographer

The latest Weeknd sale at DiscountMags has a $4.80 per magazine per year theme, and this includes exactly one photography title, Outdoor Photographer. This is a print magazine delivered to your door in the US by mail… As you can guess, the mailing costs are cost-prohibitive for them to mail these outside the US at $4.80 per year… No auto-renewal…

Various other “six degrees of separation from photography” magazines are included…

PS: the reason I’m only mentioning DiscountMags and not others is that I’ve used DiscountMags a few times without issue…

PS2: not the current four photography titles that are in rotation at DiscountMags, but a few other magazines offered by DiscountMags are digital copies via Zinio. This is marked in the box and individual listing of each magazine (unless you are speed reading at blazing speeds). Zinio has different business practices than DiscountMags. Zinio is very much auto-renewal all the way to the bank…

PS3: the times they are a-changing once again! Don’t forget to adjust your non-automatically-updated clocks on Sunday morning after sunrise…

Three Magazines for $12 total for 1-Year (options include Outdoor Photographer)

If you want to subscribe to a minimum of three printed magazines (delivered to USA addresses, no auto-renewal), the Weekend Sale at DiscountMAGS is a good price, 3 titles for $12 total for 1-year, making it $4 per magazine per year.

Of photography interest, “Outdoor Photographer” is eligible for this promotion! An assortment of “six degrees of separation from photography” type of magazines are participating to help you get to three (or more). This includes WIRED, Popular Mechanics, various lifestyle and travel, Bazaar, Elle, Bridal Guide, hobby sports, Cosmo, Essence, Backpacker, Car & Driver, and more…

Wedn (eBook): The Apparitionists: A Tale of Phantoms, Fraud, Photography, and the Man Who Captured Lincoln’s Ghost for $2

Among the Wednesday 2/10/21 Amazon daily deals there is an ebook that touches up on paranormal photography. It is the 357-page “The Apparitionists: A Tale of Phantoms, Fraud, Photography, and the Man Who Captured Lincoln’s Ghost” by Peter Manseau going for $2. You also earn a $0.20 Great on Kindle credit. If you already have a “Great On Kindle” credit, it will be automatically applied to your order. Recently Amazon increased the duration of “Great on Kindle” credits to run for 30 days instead of just a week.

The ebook averages 4.5 out of 5 based on 90 global customer ratings. You can get a Kindle sample (the beginning of the book) OR you can “Look Inside” and randomly jump around inside the ebook (with a web browser, not on the e-reader)…

A brief summary of the ebook on the Amazon product page:

“A story of faith and fraud in post–Civil War America, told through the lens of a photographer who claimed he could capture images of the dead”

Outdoor Photographer for $4.71 per year

DiscountMags is back with another weekend sale and this one of course it’s a very special (in marketing terms) SuperBowl Weekend Sale that includes a 1-year subscription of the printed US-addresses “Outdoor Photographer” for $4.71 per year. That’s 11 issues. Its “default” sale price is $5/year.

AS usual there are many other “six degrees of separation” magazines like sports, fashion, nature, travel, science/tech (Wired, Discover, NatGeo, etc), etc, etc, etc. And “Consumer Reports” too for $17.57 for 1-year (= 13 issues)…

As usual, no auto-renewal. Only US addresses are eligible for obvious reasons (shipping/mailing the magazines outside the US would cost a whole lot more than the subscription price for a whole year)…

Spend $25+, Get $6 Kindle Store Credit (Jan 21-28)

Reading is fun-da-mental! If you are a fan of Kindle e-reading, their 25-6 promotion is back. Once you activate it, the promotion runs between January 21-28 in 2021. Better yet, this runs retroactively for the time period. The terms are as before. If you spend $25+ in Kindle ebooks, you will earn a $6 promotional Kindle e-store-credit…

This is especially of interest for photography ebooks and camera e-guides, since they tend to be of the more expensive kind…

Outdoor Photographer print for $4.50/yr

DiscountMAGS is having a Year-End Sale that includes the usual three photo-video magazines. The good offer of the three is a 1-year Outdoor Photographer (print magazine to US addresses, no auto-renewal) going for $4.50 per year… The other two (Digital Photo PRO, VideoMaker) are closer to their “default sale prices”…

Outdoor Photographer print magazine for $4.75 per year

This weekend’s Magazine Sale at Discount Mags includes the usual three photography-related magazines, print magazines delivered to USA addresses, without auto-renewal:

+ Outdoor Photographer for $4.75/yr
+ Videomaker or Digital Photo PRO for $7.75/yr each
+ various other “six degrees of separation” magazines

Thursday: Nikon D3500 Dummies Guide eBook for $4

Into the Amazon Gold Box of Thursday 12/24/20 we go where among their Kindle daily deals they have a camera-guide-book on sale for $3.99! It is the Nikon D3500 for Dummies, Kindle edition ebook by Julie Adair King! This has 352 pages (just over a penny per page!), it is a larger file size obviously (lots of diagrams and such) and was published almost exactly two years ago.

As of the time of writing it averages 4.7 out of 5 based on 739 customer ratings (mix of written reviews and star-ratings-only). You can “Look Inside” to jump around the ebook, and you can also send a sample to your Kindle. The Kindle samples are almost always the start of the book, while the “Look Inside” allows you to randomly jump around.

PS: if you have the Kindle Unlimited Subscription, one of the Nikon D3500 ebooks can be borrow-read from there, the Nikon D3500 User Guide by Owen Giden. This is 99 pages long, published a couple of weeks ago. This book does not offer a jump-around “Look Inside”, just the Kindle sample. It has zero customer ratings but if you have a Kindle Unlimited subscription you lose nothing by borrowing it…

PS2: also part of the Thursday daily deals is another Dummies ebook, iPad for Seniors (12th edition, 415 pages, 4.2 out of 5 on 198 customer ratings) by Dwight Spivey for $5.

PS3: speaking of the D3500, the Neewer Battery Grip for select Nikon D3X00 and D5X00 APS-C dSLRs is on sale for $25 (4.6 out of 5 based on 1228 customer ratings as of the time of writing). This is an old-fashioned sale, not a lightning-deal.

YMMY (Dec 23-30): Spend $25+ in eBooks, Get $6 ebook store credit

This promotion is back again at Amazon. It is YMMV, and you have to activate it first in your own Amazon account, which I believe happens automatically at the Promotional Page OR if you click on any of the in-page banners at Amazon (you may see them while you are in the ebook pages ~ that’s how I found it while writing the post about the Nikon D3500 dummies offer)…

Just like before, the offer works retroactively (once activated) for the period between December 23 at 00:01am and December 30 at 11:59pm. If your total ebook purchases are $25 or higher, within four days of reaching the milestone, a $6 promotional ebook store credit will be applied automatically to your Amazon account.

The $6 promotional ebook credit must needs be used within 21 days of it being credited to your account, otherwise it evaporates into the 13th dimension. More details at the Promotional Page

PS: given the date range, it is possible they have another promotion to cover the New Year but this is PURE speculation on my part…

LAST CALL (Mon PM): $25+ Kindle ebooks, Get $6 back

This is a last call alert, Monday 11/30/20 at 11:59pm pacific time is the last day to take advantage of the Amazon Kindle Buy $25+ in ebooks, get $6 promotional ebook credit promotion. The details are at the aforelinked page, the two things to remember is that you must activate the promotion. The other thing is actually a nice thing, once you activate the offer, it works retroactively for ebook purchases between November 23-30 in 2020, and the ebooks can be purchased on different days and times, not a single transaction.

This works on ebooks of all kinds since Amazon’s digital arm is the only one selling ebooks, there are no 3rd-party sellers like there are with physical products. So whether you buy fiction, non-fiction, camera guides, “Understanding Exposure”, Photoshop/LR books, etc, Harlequins, sports e-almanacs, etc…

Sunday: Presidential Photography of Pete Souza, “Obama: An Intimate Portrait” for $7 [Kindle, eBook]

Presidential Photographer Pete Souza [Wikipedia], chief white house photographer for two presidents, Reagan and Obama [one film, one digital we can assume], is one of the Kindle daily deals for Sunday, with his presidential photography e-book “Obama: An Intimate Portrait” covering all eight years (327 pages, November 2017). The sale price is $7 but you get a $0.70 “Great On Kindle” promotional store credit as well. You can “Look Inside” to see if this mix of presidential photography and text is something of interest. Offer ends Sunday at 11:59pm pacific time. eBooks don’t sell out… This is currently #1 in the Photography & Video category at Amazon…

Outdoor Photographer print US subscription for $4.25 per year

Good until 10/30/20 at 4am eastern time, DiscountMAGS is running their Black Friday sale with various print magazines delivered to USA addresses without auto-renewal. They have the usual trio of photography magazines among others:

+ Outdoor Photographer for $4.25/yr

Spend $25+ on Kindle ebooks, Get $6 promo credit

It’s that time of the year for the Kindle ebook offers as well! This promotion runs between November 23-30 in 2020. If you purchase $25+ in Kindle ebooks in any combination [eg one expensive ebook, or multiple ebooks on different days] during the promotional period, you will earn a $6 promotional Kindle ebook credit.

First, you must activate the promotion. If you are logged on, it may activate simply by visiting or reloading the page, or by following the link mentioned over there.

Once activated, any purchases you made during this promotional period [even before you activated the offer] count towards the $25 minimum.

Your $6 bonus will be applied to your Amazon account within two days of reaching the $25 minimum.

Once applied to your account, you have 21 days to spend the $6 ebook credit (you can use it on one ebook or multiple ebooks).

There are plenty of photography ebooks out there, from camera guides, to post-processing, to inspirational, to “Understanding Exposure” type of books, and so on. OR you can buy any other ebook sold at Amazon.

To make the most of it, plan also how to spend the $6 credit before jumping in on the offer, so it won’t be left to expire unused.

Some ebooks also have a “Great On Kindle” store credit, which is stackable with this $6 credit…

BOOK CLUB TIP: If you are looking for a long complicated epic fantasy that can be read by the whole family during the socially-distanced winter holidays, try The Stormlight Archive by Brandon Sanderson [there’s Kindle sample and look inside]. Not brutal or convoluted or uber-complicated or sexually charged as “A Song of Ice and Fire / Game Of Thrones”. From what I recall the most sexual thing that happened in book #1 was a kiss between two mature adults. Infact it’s so nonsexual you have to wonder whether most of the characters are eunuchs 😉 Note that this is planned as a 10-book series but Sanderson is writing fast fast fast fast.

Wedn: “Picture This: How Pictures Work” by Molly Bang for $3

The number of ebook offers are increasing in the Amazno gold Box, and as such, the net may grab more photography-related ebooks. Such as this offer, good until 11/25/20 [one month until COVID Christmas!] at 11:59pm pacific time [ebooks rarely ever sell out]. It is a classic, Molly Bang’s “Picture This: How Pictures Work” going for $3. This is a 154-page book. As of the time of writing it averages 4.5 out of 5 based on 131 customer ratings…

You can request a free Kindle sample [and send it to your favorite Kindle app or Kindle ereader or tablet] or you can go to the Hardcover version and “Look Inside”.

UPDATE: of popular science interest, Brian Greene, one of the “physics/space science popularizers” has a daily deal ebook as well, it’s “Until the End of Time: Mind, Matter, and Our Search for Meaning in an Evolving Universe” for $4 (408 pages, February 2020, 4.5 out 5 with nearly 1000 ratings, you also get a $0.40 Great On Kindle credit)…
