    I’ve been with Amazon for many year, since 1999, I think. In that time I’ve made serious efforts to take advantage of lightning deals a half dozen times. Every one ended in failure for various reasons. Today I wanted to get the X-Rite Color munki Smile. I went to the product page, and the price was the same $89 as last night. I went to the lightning deals page to see if I had to click on it there to get the lightning price. I checked Electronics and Computers and Accessories in the lefthand margin to narrow the displayed products. The Colormunki wasn’t there. I clicked the expired deals. It was not listed. I at least wanted to see what the lightning price was. That was no go, too. Nada. Zip.

    I write this to commiserate, I guess. I think I must be well past the law of averages when it comes to missing out on lightning deals, right up to the point of being at the method of payment page, when on three occasions the page hiccupped, reloaded with my cart emptied and a popup said the deal expired. My frustration is heightened no end by the fact I’m in the Pacific Time Zone and am not up for rising before dark to try and buck the seemingly insurmountable odds of actually landing a lightning deal for the very first time. Rats!

    • there is a bit of a wild west nature to them, especially after they opened up the lightning deals to the 3rd-party sellers as well. I don’t think I’ve ever been able to get one of those deals that go to 100% claimed immediately. I haven’t had any problems with the slow moving ones that last for hours.

    Maybe that’s the secret to lightning deals success: go for the big markdown on Q-Tips, designer cat litter box and Fire smartphone/conversation piece. Even I could probably score on that last item. :{

    • yes, the utilitarian stuff! Amazon’s probably gotten too big for limited quantity big discount blockbuster deals. That’s probably one of the reasons why some items just appear unannounced in the lightning deals, that way people are not waiting for them for the millisecond they go live and they sell out within (milli)seconds.
