This is a FREE e-book from University of Chicago Press. It is offered for free by them, not through the usual ebook portals. As such, if you don’t use any of the services they use, you may have to create an account or login or use *GASP* Adobe DRM!
If I haven’t scared you away yet, keep on reading 🙂
For the month of February 2023, to celebrate Black History Month, the University of Chicago Press is offering their book “Troublemakers – Chicago Freedom Struggles through the Lens of Art Shay” by Erik S. Gellman for FREE. There are over 250 Photographs by photographer Art Shay, along with essays/text of Gellman. This is 304 pages long and came out in January 2020.
You can get the book for FREE in three different ways, you have to give them your email address:
- read it online at BiblioVault, login required via Google or Facebook or a Chicago Press Books account
- download using the Readium/Thorium/Aikido apps on PC, Mac, iOS, Android, or Linux (Chromebooks can use the Android option or Linux if they have it installed); you have to create a “PassPhrase” for access
- download it using Adobe DRM (BOOOOOOO!!!!!) and an appropriate eReader app
The last time I tried to download from them (a while back), the only option was the yucky Adobe DRM. Thankfully now there are two more options. Still not as simple as buying an ebook on a Kindle or Google Play or iOS (or Windows Store whenever Microsoft flirts with offering digital content (and then promptly shuts it down it #ZuneLivesInOurHearts))
PS: if you want to get a feel for the book (Look Inside) and read customer reviews, check its Amazon page [NOT FREE at Amazon, it is $16).
