(ENDED) Amazon App Only: starts Tuesday 9am ET: Rokinon 85mm T1.5 (C)

This app-only lightning deal ended…

Once upon a time online shopping was easy. Now it has become as convoluted as the internet itself 🙂 In addition to the thousands of daily lightning deals, Amazon also has a small number of app-only lightning deals. You can get to them using the official Amazon apps. According to their schedule, starting at 9am Eastern on Tuesday, there will be an app-only lightning deal on the Rokinon 85mm T1.5. The links points to the declicked Canon mount, with a price before sale $300. I do not know if any of the other mounts will also be on sale. Here’s a screenshot (the time below is pacific/Amazon time):

    I would have less trouble with green eggs and ham than with the Amazon app. The volume of largely unnecessary and annoying notifications it dumps on my phone and tablet represent a nuisance nearly as unwelcome as the flood of (literally) mindless promotional e-mails my inbox is getting choked with. Oh yes, quite some time ago I looked into a few products of types I rarely shop for anywhere, and did not buy from Amazon if I bought them at all. But I just got a promo e-mail suggesting those things and items a misbegotten algorithm assumed I am probably interested in because I looked at those things.

    I expect my inbox to get flooded at this time of year, just as I expected it to be flooded through the election year. But there should be some limit wherein I could tell Amazon, “Not this, not these, not anything remotely like them. Forget it. Cease fire.” Alas, there’s only the delete option.

    (Thanks for letting me rant. I feel better now.) :}

    • I ruthlessly turn off Notifications of most apps and block their background data to cut back a lot of the nonsense noise. But indeed we need a more fine-tuned way to filter Notifications and emails of this kind. Those pestery “you left something in your shopping cart” emails irritate me the most. The easiest way to get me to do an “unsubscribe all’.

        Amen. But it’s not playing fair for Amazon to try to capture and keep people using its obnoxious app because of an app-exclusive offer here and there.

        • I accidentally found a hack around that just a few minutes ago while fumbling around. I will organize it into a post today or tomorrow.
