Pre-ORDER new CANON APS-C R7 and R10 cameras

Managing 2+2 parallel camera systems must not be a fun adventure at the Canon and Nikon headquarters, but reality and the realpolitik of photography demand so. Okay, enough nonsense 🙂

Canon has revealed today two new APS-C mirrorless cameras in the R/RF system, along with two new R/RF APS-C lenses that will be offered in official kits with these two cameras. The same DSLR APS-C playbook repeating itself? 🙂

VROOOM PROMISES the CANON R7
The Canon R7, faster than the speed of life per Canon, promises 15fps using mechanical shutter, 32mp, in-body image stabilization with up to seven stops, dual UHS-II SD slots, Dual Pixel CMOS AF II, DiGiC X, EVF and vari-angle touchscreen, USB-C and such…

Sounds good but can it beat the legendary Olympus E-100 RS? I don’t think so 🙂

It is available in two standard kits, body only for $1500, or with the newly announced RF-S 18-150mm f3.5-6.3 IS STM lens for $1900. Pre-orders are accepted at B&H Photo and Adorama and such…

Here’s a couple of 3-minute “trailers” for the camera by Canon herself:

CANON R10 goes for the $1K PRICE POINT
For those wanting to stay close to the psychological $1K price-point Canon has revealed the R10 APS-C mirrornyet camera. It will be available as body only for $980, with the new RF-S 18-45mm f4.5-6.3 IS STM kit lens for $1100, or with the new RF-S 18-150mm f3.5-6.3 IS STM lens for $1380.

The R10 has a 24mp APS-C sensor, and shares some but not all (single UHS-II card, only version 2.0 USB-C, etc, etc, etc) of the R7 features. It’s a $500 price difference after all 🙂 The detailed comparison is your homework assignment for the week!

Pre-orders are accepted at B&H Photo and also at Adorama

The R10 has gotten just one 3-minute “trailer” from Canon instead of the two of the R7 😉

DISAMBIGUATION POINT
This may potentially cause some confusion to those new to the Canon RF world. There is an existing previously released Canon BG-R10 Battery Grip that is designed for the R5 and R6 mirrorless cameras.

Life would be just way too easy if the camera name matched the battery grip name 🙂

Nikon Z Month at Adorama (with FREE Accessories)

If you’ve made the big decision to try out the Nikon Z system, it is Z Day, okay Z Month, at Adorama where they have many Nikon Z bundles, a number of which include the customary “FREE Accessories” bundles with all kinds of accessorapalooza offerings.

The link above is sorted by newest product first, which is why it starts with the Nikon Z Football Club (aka “Z fc”).

There are eight pages of offerings, and it includes DSLR gear as well. After all, Nikon does not have _that_ many Z system products and I’m guessing they did not want to offend the DSLR users. Yes, the customer politics of having multiple DSLR and mirrorless systems running in parallel in perfect harmony 🙂

Monoprice USB-C hub (w/4 USB-A 3.0) for $11 w/FS

With more and more laptops and such including USB-C ports, USB-C hubs are must-have items. Which brings us to the mobile deal of the week at the Monoprice website, their Monoprice Select Series USB hub with a USB-C “input” and four USB-A 3.0 “outputs”. No other connectors. It goes for $11 with FREE standard US shipping. Up to 20 per customer at the sale price. As of the time of writing it averages 4.3 out of 5 based on 28 customer reviews and it has 12 answered questions. Offer ends 5/29/22 or earlier if sold out.

It is also eligible for coupon code LAT15 (15% off laptop accessories until 5/31/22). Not sure if this is stackable with the sale price.

Speaking of Monoprice, they have also launched the obligatory Memorial Day sale featuring their usual assortment of tech products and accessories (with all kinds of cables as usual)…

Save the Date: OPTIC is June 12-15 (2022) [FREE to register]

If you miss the in-person conferences, save the date! June 12-25 in 2022 is when the B&H Photo OPTIC conference will be taking place. This time it will be both in-person (pending monkey-pox dramaz) and online!

Speakers old and new, young and old are included, including the usual names of McNally, Kelby, etc. The physical event will take place at the New Yorker Hotel. There are two days of presentations, and two days of photo-walks. Me personally, I would have preferred two days of feasts 🙂
