Meanwhile at Woot, on the bargain side of things, six refurbished “scratch and dent” name brand Chromebooks (ASUS, Acer, Lenovo, HP) are on sale ranging from $62 to $68, with a 90-day Woot warranty. Note that Google will not be offering ChromeOS updates forever. Each platform (eg a specific Celeron processor) has an expiration date. After that, no more ChromeOS updates. You can search this by laptop name at this Google Support page. Once it reaches the no-more-updates date, if you don’t feel comfortable to continue using it, you can install Linux on it or a 3rd-party Chromium OS recommended by How/To/Geek…
PS: if you have an existing ChromeOS device in your hands, you can find the “end of updates” date by going to the “About ChromeOS” page, then click on “Additional Details” and “Update Schedule”. If you haven’t checked recently, check again because Google extended some Chromebooks (from what I recall)…
