PSA: eBay forces "The Feed" on more accounts

If you haven't been on eBay recently, beware when you return logged on with your account. eBay is now pushing "The Feed" on more accounts. If you see things jumping up and asking for confirmation, don't just click blindly to make them go away. "The Feed" is eBay's attempt to figure out what an individual's interests are and show them products that fit those categories. Needless to say, a lot of people find this irritating.

eBay updates User Agreement on Friday night

Why do corporations have to be so douchey? eBay launched a series of updates to its User Agreement on Friday night. The updates are summarized in an email sent to the registered email addresses of current eBay users. The email was sent out on Friday night. Announcing things on Friday night is a douchey practice because it limits the amount of coverage they get. So if there are any controversial provisions, they can often fly under the radar because most people take off for the weekend. If corporations want to rehabilitate their image, they can start by being more open and transparent instead of lawyering up and BSing their way out of everything. Rant ends :)

eBay is beta-testing a new service offering $5 same-day delivery of eBay purchases of products/retailers participating in this promotion. Of camera interest, Best Buy and Target are in on the beta running now in San Francisco. Details at Tech Crunch (via Techmeme).

eBay Sellers July 11-17: up to 50,000 auction-style listings for free

If you have a lot of things like camera accessories and such that you want to sell/get-rid-off, eBay has a special promotion for Sellers for the week of July 11-17, 2012, you can list up to 50,000 (fifty thousand) items for free (auction style, free buy-it-now option, no eBay Stores sellers). You only pay eBay fees for the items that sell. Details, restrictions and exclusions at the promotional eBay page. To max out on the free listings, you have to post around 300 new listings per hour (5 listings per minute), non-stop, during these seven days :) Typically eBay offers 50 (fifty) free listings per month.

While on the topic of freebies, don't forget free Slurpees tomorrow, 7/11/12 at 7-Eleven stores, between 11am and 7pm. So many 7 and 11 date and time combinations :)

Caution when buying expensive camera gear on eBay Daily Deals

In recent months, eBay has increased the profile and the number of specials at their eBay Daily Deals pages. This brought an increasing number of digital camera specials.

As most of you know, eBay itself is only a platform, not a seller. Their camera specials these days feature a variety of expensive DSLRs and lenses that are sold by a variety of sellers. Some are well-known and authorized dealers like Beach Camera and OneCall. These are usually the minority of the DSLR specials these days.
