REI is one of a very few companies these days where you pay a one-time fee (I believe $20, or it was $20 when I signed up a few years ago) and you become a member for life. Membership has various perks including an annual profit-sharing dividend. Being a profit sharing dividend, you only earn it on full-price purchases 🙂
