Legal: Supreme Court case may impact used camera market

A case that will be heard on Monday at the Supreme Court may impact the used camera market by striking down or diminishing the First Sale doctrine. This could impact both you as an individual photographer selling your old/used/unwanted gearand also sellers of used camera gear (retailers, etc) and also marketplaces of used or unwanted camera gear (eBay, etc). If you are a fan of used camera gear and understand the trade-offs involved, you can get used black Panasonic GF3 with 14mm pancake kits for $254~ with free shipping by Amazon Warehouse Deals. Look for them as the seller. The condition is listed as "Very Good". There is no warranty with this, but you have a 30-day return policy, so it may be a good idea to allocate enough time to put the camera and lens through the paces before the 30 days expire. Used Olympus XZ-1 black w/6-month warranty for $290~

KEH Camera on Amazon is offering used Olympus XZ-1 black cameras for $285 + $5 shipping. Look for KEH Camera as the seller at the aforelinked page. KEH offers a 6 month KEH USA non-transferable warranty with these.

This is about $100 less than the new-in-box price. However, don't buy this strictly because of the price difference. Used camera gear come with their own trade-offs and if you are a perfectionist or a risk-averse shopper, be sure to consider the trade-offs of buying used vs new!

NOTE: when buying used cameras at Amazon, be sure to PAY ATTENTION to who the seller is. Some sellers, like KEH Camera, are well-known and well-respected in the world of used camera gear and they may offer their own warranties. Other sellers may not offer any warranty at all. Amazon Warehouse Deals offers no warranty but they have a 30-day return policy. So be sure to pay attention!

Panasonic GF2 black body: $200 (used), $300 (new)

If you are a fan of used camera gear, Amazon Warehouse Deals (look for them as the seller) is offering used Fuji X-Pro1s for $1232 in "Very Good" condition. There is no warranty but you get a 30-day return policy. Used camera gear have their own risks and rewards, so do not buy just because the price is lower - make sure you are comfortable with the trade-offs. You can optionally purchase a Square Trade aftermarket warranty through the above.

Used Canon 1Ds Mark III for $2800

Used camera gear powerhouse KEH Camera is offering used Canon 1Ds Mark III bodies at Amazon for $2800. They are listed as "Used - Very Good" condition. Be sure to look for KEH Camera as the seller in the aforelinked used listings. Please note that prices and availability change all the time. Used Fuji X-Pro1 body for $1213 (Good condition), $1254 (Very Good)

Amazon Warehouse Deals is offering Fuji X-Pro1 bodies starting at $1213~ for Good condition and starting at $1254~ for Very Good condition. It looks like they have quite a few. New-in-box the camera remains at $1700 at authorized Fuji dealers (see stock status page).

It has NO warranty but comes with a 30-day return period, so if you are interested in this, make sure you will have enough time available to put it through the paces before the 30-day window closes.

Having said that, please note that buying used camera gear is a calculated risk with its own trade offs and increased chances of issues and returns/exchanges. Do not buy this just because of the $500~ lower price!

(DEAD) Used Fuji X10 (very good) for $373~ (USED)

As of a 6/5/12 recheck, the price has jumped up up up and away! The price of the used Fuji X10 at Amazon Warehouse Deals has dropped to $373~ with free shipping. This is for the "Used (very good)" condition listing offered by Amazon Warehouse Deals. Prices can change at any time and for any reason!

It comes with a 30-day return policy but no warranty. You can optionally purchase an aftermarket warranty for $extra$. This as we just updated the X10 stock status page.

Please note used camera gear has its own risks and rewards. Don't be tempted by the price unless you understand the risk and reward trade-offs of buying used! Also, since it doesn't come with a warranty, it may be a good idea to spend some time with the camera after you receive it to thoroughly test it out before the 30-day return window closes.

Used and refurbished 43rds and M43rds lenses

Used Fuji X100 for $885 (Very Good condition) [Gone: refurbished]
