Most outrageous item of the day: Sony S650 for $9999

You are reading right. It is the right amount of 9s. Four of them! A third party seller on Amazon is offering the Sony Cybershot S650 for $9999. This is a basic AA-based point and shoot camera with a 7mp sensor and 3x lens. But even sillier, another 3rd party seller is offering it for $10,006.50. It looks like there might be some "program trading" going on. Amazon, please fix your out of control 3rd party sellers. Please?

Most outrageous item of the day: Sony Mavica FD200 for $989

Occasionally we are trying to do our little piece of "Consumerist" by pointing out some of the most outrageously priced items out there. One such is the Sony Mavica FD200 offered by a 3rd party seller at Amazon for $989. Yes, a floppy-based digital camera from a few years ago for $989. We call these Floppicas = Mavica with a floppy disk drive.

If you are a children (sic) of the 90s and beyond, you can learn more about floppy drives at your local computer-history museum :)

Now if this was a camera with a special feature or cult-appeal, like the Fuji F31fd, it would be one thing. But this camera does not have anything unique like that. Certainly nothing that this lovely camera has justifies a $1000 price tag.

For that, we deem this listing, the most outrageous item of the day!

Most outrageous item of the day: Nikon D40X kit for $1489

Sometimes when you surf around you find some obnoxiously high and outrageous prices. One such is the Nikon D40X kit (with the 18-55 DX lens) offered by a 3rd party seller at Amazon for $1489, but fear not, they are offering free shipping and handling ;-) Screen-shot is right below:

Most ridiculous item of the day: Olympus SP-350 for $1751

Occasionally we run into some listings that are the total opposite of a bargain. One such thing we noticed today at Amazon, offered by a 3rd party outfit called "Action Packaged Inc". They are offering the older Olympus SP-350, a mid-range compact, for $1751 plus $30 shipping. We hope this is a typo. If not, it's just plain silly. It's one thing for someone to pay $300 to get the cult-like Fuji F31fd, but do they really think there is a 0.000000000001% chance someone would actually pay $1750 for a mid-range compact that is similar to dozens of others with the same sensor?
