UPDATE (2:20pm ET): No need to enter coupon codes! There is a general Memorial Day Magazine Sale at DiscountMags that includes Popular Photography at the same price ($5 per year, up to 3 years) without the need to enter the coupon.

Other magazines that go for $5 per year as part of this promotion include Wired, Popular Science, ESPN (sports photography), and Glamour (fashion photography).

As part of a new $5 magazine sale (with auto-renewal), Amazon is offering Popular Photography and American Photo for a 1-year auto-renewal subscription for $5 per magazine per year. Please note this is an auto-renewal subscription! These are printed magazines delivered by mail. I do not know when this promotion expires... If you don't like auto-renewals, other non-auto-renewal magazine specials will return in the future.

$1 digital issues of Popular Photography (March 2013) and Shutterbug (April 2013)

Google is celebrating the first birthday of the Google Play store and as part of the celebrations they are offering $1 digital issues of select magazines. Of photography interest, for $1 per issue, you can get the March 2013 issue of Popular Photography and the April 2013 issue of Shutterbug magazine. Only these specific issues are discounted for $1. A lot of other magazines that prominently feature photography (outdoors, sports, etc) are also participating in the promotion. This is a limited time offer but I do not know when it ends.

Google also has app and such specials but currently there are no photography-related apps. In previous milestone promotions, Google would add new promotions/freebies every day for a few days in a row. I do not know if this will happen this time as well.

As of a 1/1/13 recheck, this promotion ended... Amazon is offering a 1-year auto-renewal subscription to Outdoor Photographer for $6. You can only sign up for one year at this rate. This is the printed magazine delivered physically to your physical address. A lot of people don't like auto-renewals, but Amazon is trying to make the case for the benefits of auto-renewals.

Shutterbug 1-year digital subscription for $7.50 (Google Play)

If you are a fan of digital magazine subscriptions, Google Play (the artist formerly known as the Android Market) is offering a limited time offer on magazines that include a 1-year digital subscription to the Shutterbug magazine (12 issues) for $7.50 for one year. You have to be logged on with a Google account in order to see the $7.50 price (after you press the Subscribe button). After you press the Subscribe button, you are presented with a screen that tells you that your name, address and email will be shared with the magazine publisher. At this point, you can simply press Cancel and you won't buy anything. The magazine comes with a free 14-day trial, so you have the option to cancel before the subscription kicks in. As far as I can tell, you can only sign up for one year with this, but I haven't completed the transaction, so I don't know if there is an option to add more years to it before the transaction closes.

In a separate promotion, they have a 30-day free trial offer on these 100 digital magazines which include American Photo and Popular Photography along with semi-related magazines like Wired, Outdoor Life, Popular Science, Traveler, PC World and Mac World.

The digital subscriptions are compatible with Google Chrome along with Android phones and 7-inch and 10-inch Android tablets that have access to Google Play and can run the Google Magazines app. Some more details in the Google Help pages.

Needless to say, the world of digital magazines is currently a mess with multiple different subscription portals and platforms and confusion as to print vs digital vs print + digital. One would think that all these industries would have learned after the .mp3 situation was settled, but apparently it's the same old stubborn and/or digitally-clueless big old media wigs that ruin it for everyone :) Rant ends :)
