Deal Follow-Up: 4% Instant Rewards expired at Amazon

The 4% instant rewards expired at Amazon as of last night, as indicated by the expiration date of this promotion. We will try to update as many of the older blog-posts mentioning this promotion later today, but we may miss some spots, so we are issuing a blanket alert to make sure people are aware of this.

Deal Ended: Nikon V1 two-lens kit for $400

This is a Deal Ended alert. We mentioned this bundle multiple times, but now the black Nikon V1 with the 10-30 and 30-110 zoom lens is marked as discontinued and no longer available for any kind of ordering at B&H Photo. It was previously offered for $400.

Deal Follow-Up: some of the yellow Pentax K-01 w/40mm began shipping

This is a deal follow-up. This is not a deal. If you were one of the photographers who placed orders of the yellow Pentax K-01 with the 40mm pancake lens for $317 a few weeks ago, we have some good news. Some of those orders have began shipping from Amazon. This is only for previously placed orders. The $317 price is long dead for new buyers.

UPDATE (2/13/13): more of the early orders shipped today.

Deal Ended: Free 16mm f2.8 lens with NEX cameras

This is a Deal Ended alert. The free 16mm f2.8 pancake lens with the purchase of a Sony NEX camera kit has ended. This alert supersedes any previous blog-posts on this topic since we are in the middle of a Cameraholic Digest series and may take a while to find and edit previous references.

If you have a near-term interest in the D600 now, Adorama is offering the refurbished D600 body only for $1670.

Deal follow-up: AmazonLocal $10 for $5 should be posted by now

UPDATE as of March-22-2012 at 1:35am EST: If you participated in yesterday's AmazonLocal $10 Amazon.com electronic gift certificate for $5 promotion, the voucher with the $10 electronic gift certificate code should be in your AmazonLocal account by now. Go to AmazonLocal.com, click on "Your Vouchers" and follow the trail. I purchased it right before the 900,000-claimed mark yesterday and the voucher is now in my AmazonLocal account. The promotion expired late yesterday after 1 million of them were claimed. (the deal generated a lot of buzz, check the "post-game show" via Techmeme). To make sure the speed-readers are not confused, this blog-post is a follow-up. The actual promotion for new buyers ended late yesterday.

Target.com #fail: $10 LOTR e-doorbuster orders now cancelled (deal follow-up)

We mentioned the $10 LOTR BluRay boxset online doorbuster at Target.com during Black Friday Midnight Madness. Fast forward to now, Target.com is sending emails to buyers canceling their orders because of "high demand" and "no longer available from any of our sources". They are probably going to irritate/lose a lot of customers because of this. Toying with viral marketing of this type and magnitude can be a double-edged sword and if not organized and managed properly... #FAIL

Deal follow-up: Amazon 5% Gift Card bonus being added to accounts

If you participated in the October 5% bonus on gift cards purchases at Amazon, it looks like the 5% bonuses are being added to Amazon customer's's accounts. I just checked mine, by going to "Your Account" [top right corner of every Amazon page] and then clicking "View Gift Certificate/Card Balance" [in the second rectangle, "Payment", in the second column "Gift Cards"], and the balance has increased by the bonus amount. I haven't received an email notification of this yet - the bonus amounts usually show up in the account first, and then they send the emails [which makes sense].

Dead Deal Alert: Canon T1i two-lens kit for $730 has ENDED

The Canon T1i two-lens kit (18-55/55-250 EF-S IS) for $730 after a $200 off coupon at Amazon has ended. The coupon 55250JUL no longer works on the aforementioned items and a message that the offer has expired appears when you try to use it in the Amazon Checkout page. We do not know if a new coupon code is coming out or not. For now, it is dead :(

Deal follow-up: Lightroom 2 discount at Amazon appears to be over

The Lightroom 2 discount at Amazon.com appears to be over, as Amazon has removed itself as one of the sellers offering the software. The current price is now in the usual $250+ range offered by third-party sellers.

The price of $170 was first offered during the Black-Fri-Monday festivities as a one-hour deal, and then, it was the organic price for a couple of days.

But to be sure that this is indeed over, we have to wait to see what price Amazon.com itself lists it at when it returns.

UPDATE (Tue Dec-1-2009): Amazon itself is now offering LR2 at its usual price range of $260+. So this deal is officially dead.

Canon NB-4L Li-Ion battery shipped for $15

We mentioned this Canon NB-4L battery special on eBay delivered for $15 with free shipping by power-seller imobile247 last week. The deal is still alive and kicking.

One of our readers received their order today and they have verified that it is indeed a genuine Canon battery. See the comments by Nick in this post. Thanks Nick for the follow-up!

Dead: Panasonic G1 + 45-200mm $250 discount at Amazon

We have just checked to see the latest status of the Panasonic G1 + 45-200mm deal at Amazon, and we are sad to inform you that this deal is now dead :-( The combined purchase $250 discount is GONE from the Amazon product pages. It was good while it lasted. "It's dead Jim!". We will keep an eye out for it in case it returns...

Deal follow-up: Black Friday pre-paid Visa cards have arrived!

Remember the Black Friday Sandisk memory card pre-paid Visa card rebate promotions with really good prices by the online Ritz/Wolf? We bought some memory cards, partially so we can monitor their progress for you. Today, after three months, we have received our gift cards. We even double-checked with the website to make sure the balance was right (and it was).

These cards came on their own. Other than checking the status on the rebate website a couple of times, we did not call them or demanded their immediate delivery. We bought this with a personal account, so they have no way of knowing the purchase was related to this blog, so we did not receive any special treatment.

The website for checking the balance of your Visa card is very simple, you enter a CAPTCHA code first so they can make sure you are human, and then you enter the card number, and the site displays your current balance.

The pre-paid gift cards have a relatively short lifespan, the ones we received have an expiration date of June 2009. Time for a mini-shopping spree before we forget :-)

I guess this qualifies as a rebate-program-review as well :-)

There is a new Sandisk-Visa promotion going, if we notice any good (after rebate) prices, we will be sure to post them now that we know that the cards will eventually arrive without nudging and screaming and grinding.

Deal follow-up: Sandisk pre-paid Visa card mail-in rebates

During Black Friday of 2008, we got some Sandisk memory cards that qualified for the pre-paid Visa card mail-in rebate, partially so we can keep track of its progress for blog purposes. The latest status of the rebates? They are in the "Check Approved" stage, with the next (and last) step being "Check Mailed". These are obviously pre-paid Visa check cards, but the rebate processing system uses those "generic" terms.

There is also a new Sandisk pre-paid Visa card rebate with a different promotion number, and if we notice any special deals with that, we will post them here.

Deal follow-up: Dillyeo.com $5 gift cards are being emailed

The "deal follow-up" segment follows up on previously mentioned deals. The $5 free Dillyeo.com gift card deal we mentioned on Monday is now being emailed to all those who bought it for $0. We got one so we can follow it through and bring you updates. We can't afford to buy a Nikon D3X every time it is in-stock, but we can afford a $0 card :)

Deal follow-up: The Ritz CF cards are shipping

If you ordered the free-after-Visa-card-rebate Ritz/Wolf cards during Black Friday and Cyber Monday and you got a back-ordered message after the order was placed, check your order status! Ritz is shipping a new batch of 4gb Sandisk CompactFlash Extreme III cards! The rebate submission window goes into 2009, so no need to stress out.

Deal follow-up: FAR cards at Ritz and LR2 for $150 at Amazon

In the "Deal follow-up" segment we provide updates on previous (and currently dead) deals to see how they progressed.

On the Amazon Lightroom 2 full-version for $150 deal, some people have indeed received their LR2 full versions for $150, which goes to show that you have nothing to lose when you see a good price at a reputable retailer for an item you want or need. But please don't start a riot if they cancel the orders due to pricing errors :)

On the Ritz free-after-Visa-check-card-rebate deals, some people have received their memory cards already, others are currently in backorder status, because of the feeding frenzy that happened. After all, it's not every day that you can get 4gb Extreme III CF and SD for free after rebate!
