If you can wait for a couple of weeks for delivery, the current price of the Canon T1i instant-rebate bundle is $784 at Amazon. The T1i w/18-55mm goes for $750 and the EF-S 55-250mm goes for $234. Take $200 off with the instant rebate, and the price drops to $784. Be sure to add both of them to your shopping cart, and both must be sold and shipped by Amazon, not by any of the many third-party sellers that do business there.
If Amazon is not the featured seller, you must seek Amazon as the seller in the right sidebar of the Amazon product page, under the "More Buying Choices" segment. Look for "Amazon.com" there. The discount only qualifies if _both_ items are sold and shipped by Amazon. If you don't see the discount in your checkout page as seen below, it means you are not doing it right or the instant rebate promotion has expired.
The lens currently "ships in 1 to 3 weeks". However, the discount is still good as you can see in this screenshot we just took from the Checkout page:
Amazon is celebrating ten years of the "Wishlist" feature and they have a great prize this week - a YellowStone Expedition with Canon. The prize includes the free trip to Yellowstone with a private lesson by "Explorer of Light" Adam Jones, a Canon 7D camera (now you are paying attention!), five Canon lenses (including 70-200, 100mm hybrid IS macro), and a few other Canon accessories and gear.
So, how do you enter the sweepstakes? Very simple: "Just create, add to, or share a Wish List to automatically be invited to enter."
If you are interested in the Canon 50D, you may want to take a look at the two-lens kit created by adding the 70-300mm f4-5.6 IS lens to the 50D kit with the EF 28-135mm lens. There is a $200 instant savings rebates on this combo that is good until November 21st, 2009.
Here is how the prices go:
+ $1152 for Canon 50D with EF 28-135mm
+ $524 for the Canon EF 70-300mm f4-5.6 IS USM
- $200 instant rebate
= $1476 total

It looks like Canon is getting even more aggressive with the pricing of the Canon T1i! You can now get the Canon T1i kit with the 18-55mm EF-S IS lens plus the 55-250mm EF-S IS lens for $802, just $52 more than the single-lens kit. You can get it right now, sold and shipped by Amazon.com. This is because of a $200 instant rebate that ends on November 21st.
Canon has launched some new DSLR-themed instant rebates for November. We will go through them tomorrow (Thursday).
Instant Rebates means the price is adjusted in your shopping cart. There is no action needed to get the low price other than placing the items in your shopping cart.
Canon has gone on the attack with new rounded prices for their Canon T1i kits. The body-only sells for $650 by Amazon and third-party sellers, while the kit with the EF-S IS 18-55mm lens sells for $750 on Amazon by J&R World, Cameta and 17th Street. Amazon herself is higher, at $765.
With a sliding price and the Canon brand name recognition it will be interesting to see how it affects non-brand-affiliated photographers who are looking for a DSLR in this price-range.

If you have a DSLR and you want to get started with hot-shoe flash photography, without spending/risking too much money, both Canon and Nikon offer affordable starter flashes at reasonable prices. For Canon, you can now get the Speedlite 270EX for $129 with free shipping sold and shipped by Amazon herself.
On the Nikon side of the aisle, you can get the SB-400AF Speedlight for $112, by J&R upon Amazon.
The competitive sub-$1000 market is "getting" to many DSLRs out there, and even the Canon T1i (500D) is affected. The price has been sliding slowly but steadily the last few weeks. The best current price at Amazon.com is $750 with free shipping and handling offered by Cameta, Beach and J&R World. This includes the 18-55mm EF-S IS lense. Amazon's own price is $764.
If you only want the body-only, you can get it for around $660.

It's a new episode of The Sliders today :) The popular Canon Digital Rebel T1i (500D) has been also slowly but steadily sliding down in price. Right now, sold and shipped by Amazon, you can get it shipped for $780. This is the kit with the 18-55mm EF-S IS lense. You also get 25% off the current price of select accessories if you buy them together (Targus DL80 flash, Tiffen Dx software, tripod, monopod, and flash bracket).
