Sony A300 w/18-70mm DT ships for $500 (updated)

If you happen to be interested in the Sony Alpha A300 [reviews], you can get it now for $500 with free shipping at J&R World (add to cart to see price!). The kit is also available by J&R World on Amazon.

This is a limited-quantity while-supplies-last listing, so do not sleep on it if you are interested in this particular model. But if you miss it, fear not, Sony has a total of eight other DSLR models under $1000!

Speaking of older Alpha DSLRs, you can get the Sony Alpha A700 for $810 at Amazon by third-party sellers as follows:
+ A700 + 18-70mm for $810 by third-party seller "6ave"
+ A700 body only for $800 by "6ave" and $810 by "Willoughby's".

As usual with third-party sellers (or any sellers you are not familiar with), be sure to investigate them thoroughly if you are not familiar with them. This blog is a notification service, we are not a personal shopping service. You are responsible for making your own decisions!

Sony Alpha instant rebates (A230, A330, A380 and lenses)

Amazon has a limited time instant-rebate promotion on select Sony Alpha gear. If you buy one of the Alpha DSLR kits, together with one of these three lenses, $130 will be deducted automatically from the total of your order when you reach the Amazon Checkout page. There is nothing to mail!

Please note that all items must be sold and shipped by Amazon.com itself! There is also a promotion that gets $30 off with purchase of a battery or flash (specific models).

The promotion ends on Saturday November 21st. To summarize, here are the items available in this promotion:

DSLR Kits
+ A230 standard kit or two-lens kit ($500, $600)
+ A330 body-only, standard kit or two-lens kit ($600, $600, $700)
+ A380 standard kit or two-lens kit ($800, $900)

Lenses ($130 off)
+ Sony 55-200mm f4-5.6 SAM DT
+ Sony 75-300mm f4.5-5.6
+ Sony 55-200mm f4-5.6 DT

Accessories ($30 off)
+ Sony HLVF20AM TTL flash ($129)
+ Sony NPFH50 battery ($39)

Strategy session
Be sure to make sure that all the items you buy for the purpose of the instant rebate promotion are sold and shipped by Amazon.com itself, not by any of the many third-party sellers that do business at Amazon. This is crucial, because the instant rebates only work if you buy from Amazon itself.

If you don't see the instant rebate in your Amazon Checkout page, it means that either you picked the wrong item/seller or the promotion ended. Do not place the order and hope that the instant rebate magically appears later. You MUST see it in your Amazon Checkout page BEFORE you place an order!

The DSLR prices are round and very inorganic because Sony forces their authorized deals to march in order, and does not allow the invisible hand of the market to adjust prices. This is why you don't see as many Sony Alpha deals on this blog because most retailers have the same prices.

Amazon tries new way of showing DSLR Kits (eg Alpha A700 for $750/$800)

We are using an example of the Sony Alpha A700 to showcase Amazon's new experiment in showing DSLR kits. From what we have seen, this is only shown on Chrome and Safari browsers. The other browsers (Firefox, Opera, IE) show this as usual.

The price is the same regardless of the browser. We are using the Alpha A700 as an example to make this a double-duty update. The body-only is $750 and the kit with 18-70mm DT is $800, both offered by third-party seller "6ave" on Amazon.

For more on the Alpha A700, be sure to check its list of reviews at the DSLR Review Organizer.

Below we have a screengrab crop of the Amazon product page. The three available kits are shown (horizontally) as three tabs on the same line. Clicking on each kit refreshes the middle of the Amazon product page without reloading the whole page. The picture below is a screenshot, click through it to get to the Amazon page.

Now shipping: Sony 30mm f2.8 DT ships for $200

Nikon's own 35mm f2.8 f1.8 DX is not the only "digital prime" generating excitement at $200. Sony-Alpha has its own, the 30mm f2.8 DT lens, which goes for $200, and the good news is that it is now shipping from B&H Photo with free S&H included!

The lens is also available from other retailers including Amazon and its third-party sellers, OneCall, et al.

Speaking of OneCall and Sony, today's (Thursday) deal of the day is the Sony XDR-F1HD, an HD Radio Tuner, going for $87 with free ground shipping.

Sony Alpha A300K/N (gold) for $500

You can get the Sony A300K/N (gold finish) DSLR for $500 with free shipping and handling at Amazon. The A300 is part of the previous trio of Sony DSLRs (A200, A300, A350), not to be confused with the 2009 trio (A230, A330, A380). It has the more modest 10mp sensor, which considering the Sony CCDs in those cameras, is a good thing in our opinion :)

This is new-in-box! A refurbished version of this camera has sold out for $450 at Sony Stylez.

For more on this camera, be sure to check its list of reviews at the DSLR Review Organizer.

Tamron 28-80 f3.5-5.6 (Alpha mount) ships for $69

Don't expect miracles and wonders from this lens, but you can't argue with the price! For $60 plus $9 shipping, you can get the Tamron 28-80mm f3.5-5.6 lens from 47th Street Photo on Amazon. This is the Alpha-Minoolta-Sony flavor of the lens.

It is a 35mm full frame lens so you can use it on all your Alpha-mount (D)SLRs.

Sony Alpha A330 two-lens kit for $680

It looks like Sony is coming down the Price Mountain it seems, the price of the standard Alpha A330 two-lens kit has dropped to $680 at the usual places, as you can see at Amazon.com. This is a competitive price for a two-lens kit, and it even beats the E620 two-lens kit in price.

Of the three new entry-point Alpha DSLRs, the A330 appears to be the most likely to win the trade-offs, with a tiltable display (over the A230) and a modest 10mp sensor (over the A380).
